The delay in showing the replay live made me believe they thought it was a bad call, but in the end I thought it looked like a good call. He really tried to sell it though

I didn’t think there was anything controversial about that call. He crossed the plate and was beyond the half way point of his swinging motion. Pretty clear strike.
Fox just showed another overhead replay. Dude went at least 15 degrees past parallel with the bag.

Live looked like a bad call, even the first replay looked horrible but then the overhead showed a swing. Cameras are weird man, Brewjays forever

Correct. I’d take two quick replay angles of the check swing that would take 8 seconds total over a sky cam view from 30 yards above the ground watching the outfielders congregate.
I would have played it for the announcers so they could have talked about it being the correct call. They could then keep showing the “moment” of players enjoying the win while buying time for the tv audience to see the replay.

His bat did cross the plate though on the overhead camera, from the side it didn’t look like it but the overhead view sure looked like the bat crossed the plate.
Is that the rule? It seems like there is no rule. I’ve watched hundreds of these rulings and the one consistency is that they are inconsistent.

I think the side view that they showed was from the foul line so wasn’t a great angle for judging. Definitely should have shown more angles.
It’s not the rule. There isn’t one. It’s purely a judgment call by the umpire to decide whether the batter struck at the ball. They’re testing a replay rule for it and that talks about a 45 degree angle to the plate not just crossing it.
