Actual Exchange Rates On Trade Site
They said it’s a big hassle to change it, but it’s absurd they let it get this bad. It’s still using ratios from like day 7. Maybe if we could get it updated like once a month at least?
This is some kind of nonsense. The site obviously processes exchange rates internally when searching for items. There is no problem with simply displaying them.
it’s a technical detail. Exchange rates not calculated real-time which would have make search/sort very expensive in the db (given especially they have a legacy db/tech). That means they have to update exchange rates not calculated only few times and update billion row?
It’s solvable but super complex at this scale.
They can move it client-side vulture then sorting/paging wouldn’t work well,
They can just show the rate without changing the sort/search and that’s literally couple hours to make into the production.
I’m not aware of any evidence that “the site obviously processes exchange rates internally when searching for items”. They likely, when indexing items, convert the listed currency into some normalized value and store that value in a sortable field. This is probably the most straightforward way of implementing sorting with most databases/indexing engines for use cases like this.
Some indexing engines do allow you to drop in your own sorting logic, which could allow the search infrastructure to do the currency normalization at search/sort time. This would add a bit of complexity to the code and potentially more memory/cpu overhead when running a search (due to having to retrieve the value of the currency at search time and do a bit more math when sorting than previously).
Then let them show the value into which the currency used in the search is converted. It seems to be the same thing
Show the wrong, out of date values that were used for sorting? What advantage would this give besides mislead people more?
I mean there’s no way it’s a huge hassle. It’s gotta be low priority which is understandable with big patches coming out.
They have all the data available, it’s just implementing with a daily refresh which is low strain on infrastructure
Afaik it is a very high strain on infrastructure because the way it’s implemented means they have to relist all trades and late into the league there are millions of trades.
Yea so the “huge hassle” is changing their implementation to make sense and not be stupid. Which may be a “huge hassle” now, but shouldn’t have been, and just fucking needs to be done. People love to come in and say “they said it’s a huge hassle” as if that means it should be put off.
Sounds easy enough to do with the 1.0 reset though
I’m not sure if you’ve played poe1 but some of the infrastructure of this game is held together by prayers and duct tape, the trade site being one of them. There’s a non-zero chance that updating ratios in an automated fashion and then adjusting where items fall based on price would cause items to delist/moving items around involves delisting and relisting which causes the trade site to crash due to the volume.
They literally can’t get rid of the elder animations in poe1 in elder guardian maps because it just crashes the game. It’s an old framework, which poe2 has mostly escaped but there is still some legacy things where they run into these hurdles.
So it’s shit they need to fix. Everything you said doesn’t matter
There’s shit they legitimately cannot fix lmao this is a battle that has been fought for years. Like the entire reason poe2 exists is because there’s so many things they cannot fix in poe1. The problem is poe2 still has some of the old infrastructure (the trade site).
Okay so little off topic, but in 0.5 i made a bunch of urls for searching the site and the way the url is generated has changed snd all links broke.
I’d love to prepare my filters for 1.0 but I don’t know if they will break again or the format reached some kind of final form.
Maybe soenone with years of poe1 experience can kindly tell me if its normal for urls to break between leagues or this more an exception that happed in a game under active development.
You sure? I reused several urls from 0.5, just changing league and it worked perfectly in 0.5.5
Yes. They didn’t instant break. First a few if them broke then more and more stopped working.
Initially even though the url was different it could still understand the old ones, yhat gradually stopped. Eventually 90%+ of my urls stopped so i gave up.
Better Trading is very useful
I tried s few extensions and tbh found it best to use normal browser bookmarks lol
I think they would have broke across the exensions too no?
Okay so the trade search and sort is technically impressive. It offers robust filtering and returns result very quickly considering millions of records and that GGG isn’t google.
However the mismatched exchange rates is an issue. I assume its a technical issue related to using unified sorting field or something. But there is has to be a solution, maybe let us use our own rates and sort client side or something (I didnt think it though very well im sure that has it’s own issues). But the point is, this is something that should be addressed sooner or later even if it requires an overhaul of the internal trade search/sort architecture.
On a side note. Why does the trade site need exact string matching to find thr affix while in game you can type 2 words even if not in order or consecutive and it will filter for that. The in game one is much easier to use, i’d kike to see the website behave similar.
We should also be able to trade options and futures on the currency with automatic stops on prices so I can continue to gamble even when not logged in
bump
This will always be at least 1 hour delayed. They’re not going to give us live currency data, otherwise people will make literal stock exchange bots, and it will kill GGG’s servers with the load they would receive. As useful as it would be, it can’t be implemented without major abuse.
