How William Contreras, the MVP of this Brewers playoff run, is commanding the game from every angle
Braves fans punching the air rn
I literally came in here to do just that :(
From what I heard he got traded because of his defense?
That was the knock on him at the time but he was also seemingly expendable because Sean Murphy was a top 5 catcher in baseball at the time and only 27 with Atlanta having a long term extension lined up for him. They also had Travis d’Arnaud to pair with him coming off a 4 WAR season
Sean Murphy and Contreras were in the same trade
It hurts even more when you hear him talking about the day he was traded
Tbh I don’t really believe he would’ve turned into this guy in Atlanta, and getting Murphy was a clear upgrade at the time. It didn’t work out to say the least but I never hated the move.
Yep… Makes Sean Murphy the #1 hated player on the team. Sucks for Murphy but it is what it is.
I’ll never understand that trade from the A’s perspective and that’s not even hindsight bias. Milwaukee somehow got the best piece in that return package for Murphy while giving up virtually nothing
I swear to God if we don’t re-sign him…
Contreras is lining up to sign one of if not the biggest catcher FA contract ever. For any other player at any other position, it would be awful for Milwaukee to compete with that. IMO Wild Bill could be the exception. But the downside risk is so huge I can’t see it happening.
Got some bad news… I think it’s more likely he is traded in the offseason than signed to extension. I don’t want this to happen to be clear, just my analysis on the situation
I think they do what they did with Adames, let the contract run out. Having him for one more year is very valuable, there is noone ready to step up to replace him yet, and you (under the current CBA anyway) get the comp pick still. Gives the best chance of a repeat WS run, and the farm system is already great. One of those times where focusing a bit more on the present day is fine.
I think an extension doesn’t make that much sense, it’ll be for a lot of money and into his mid 30s, for a catcher who already plays a ton. He’s been great in the postseason, but overall has slightly declined each of the last couple seasons, in all areas (defense, hitting, baserunning). So getting one last season, which also retains the possibility of an extension if it all lines up, is the way to go IMO.
Yeah I agree that’s probably the most likely outcome
Contreras does it all. Like everything you want from a catcher
contreras went 2-for-3 with a walk and an rbi in game 1 and he’s back in the cleanup spot tonight. does rasmussen pitch around him?
No
Brewers fans will understand why Yadier Molina is HOF worthy because of this guy
I hate Yadier Molina, and I mean that in the best way possible. He’s for sure a hall of famer.
Ya same, I don’t want him in the HOF because of rage. Fortunately that’s not a factor in the voting.
Wait do people not think he is? I don’t pay attention to that kind of thing but he was a pillar of that org forever.
Ya. Always see people say not enough WAR and HRs.
I absolutely despise Yadi. But he’s a hall of famer. I guess the youth don’t know what he was like back in the day.
No question. Great comp, obviously Contreras hasn’t had Yadi’s career yet, but they are the heart of the team
It helps when the other guys do stupid shit like try to steal 3rd with their best hitter up
It was hilarious watching people defend that only for Kevin Cash to come out later and say yeah he fucked up, we didn’t tell him to do that lol
Seeing this post after that clinic he put on behind the plate Game 2 is incredible
I would assume mainly the angle from behind the plate and toward the mound, though
