The Rays’ unseen World Series opponent? An allegedly haunted team hotel.
The normal hotel for baseball teams in St. Pete is also famously haunted. We’re having a good ol fashioned ghost off
Came here to say this too!
Does Mookie Betts not stay in that one either?
I don’t think it’s fair that the Brewers can get help from supernatural forces. Not every team has a haunted hotel. Hope they address this in the next CBA.
The White Sox had God on their side by proxy of the pope, and look how that turned out.
I wonder if the Dark Lord has more power?
Less power, but more willing to trade it. That’s kind of the point
Dude it actually turned out amazing, we lost 100 games last season and set the loss record 2 years ago.
Literally no (reasonable lmao) sox fan is upset with this season and most of are still speechless on how crazy in a good way it was.
Fair point, I was only speaking to the playoffs, not trying to knock your season.
yea this season was fun as hell.
God got distracted saving him from a tumor
If you don’t have a haunted hotel, there are ways to do it yourself and make a hotel haunted…
“This Halloween…Jack Black and Tom Green star in…”
Funfact: i actually stayed at the pfister a couple years ago for a wedding.
Im not really into all this stuff, though my father in law insists they had a lamp in their room that kept turning on and off on its own while they were trying to sleep.
Maybe its just faulty wiring lol
There has to be a haunted help cap, the fans want competitive balance.
It’s normal analytics other teams should just do it too
Everyone knows from the documentary Angles in the Outfield that that the rules dictate that the playoffs are off limits for interference. They are flying close to the sun if they are using a haunted hotel, the baseball gods are quite fickle about their rules.
Angles? Like 90 degrees?
I feel like we’re not the plucky little small market team that everyone likes anymore.
I feel like you would be if you were playing literally anyone else from the NL side of the bracket.
The problem is that when two plucky little small market teams meet, that aspect cancels out and unfortunately the Brewers have the Midwest charm going for them while y’all don’t.
You don’t like the Florida-man charm!? What do you have against the consumption of bath salts?
I want them all to myself
Nobody who plays your team more than like 1x a year likes you lol, you’re the premier providers of bullshit devil magic
Spoken like someone who doesn’t have to share a division with Cleveland
Cleveland def does some bullshit, but the Rays are a tier or two higher
The media market of the opposing NL Central teams is far less imposing and expansive than the AL East. The media will push to get people on the Brewers side
It’s more like everyone hates the Dodgers, and the Brewers beat them. So everyone’s rallying around them
We’ve also existed for twice as long and have only 1 prior World Series appearance to their 2, which I’m sure some neutrals appreciate that we’ve been less successful historically and therefore more of an underdog
I mean, I see your flare, but the Rays knocked out a team that everyone hates too.
I find it hard to pull for the Rays because their attendance is always abysmal. I get the stadium (and its location) are bad, but a 98 win team falling well short of 20K per game is pretty sad.
No, that’s just you.
Then why does the entire broadcast team seem to hate them? I don’t think I heard a word out of John Smoltz mouth that is positive for the brewers yet. He called Miz’s stuff mediocre last night.
Smoltz is also a dipshit. I have no clue why he still gets to be in the booth. There are a bunch of analysts who can provide good pitching breakdowns without putting their foot in their mouth all the time
He called Miz’s stuff mediocre last night.
Pay that insufferable jackass no mind. My pet theory is that he misses the praise and attention he got as an ace, and so he’s sour and petty about the young phenom pitchers and tries to discredit them whenever possible. Unless they pitch for a team he blatantly favors like Boston or LA, that is. Miz obviously did fine. The numbers don’t lie.
Yeah i mean he didn’t seem in complete control last night but after he season he had idk how anyone could comment like that. Kept talking about who he’ll be as a player in 3 or 4 years. He probably won the Cy young award this year lol
Because smoltz is a shit announcer. Have no idea how he’s made it as far as he has being the de facto World Series guy every year. It sucks.
Smoltz is a BoSox homer even when they’re nowhere to be seen. He’s just pissed that his beloved Sox got bounced by the Yankees and is therefore favoring the team that beat them.
He was insufferable during the 2024 WS. Took every chance he got to make little digs at the Yanks instead of just calling the game.
Well he did it last series for the Dodgers too. I’ve finally muted the game and listen to radio
Not sure why you were downvoted. I heard it too.
Yeah whatever. Last night was borderline unprofessional how biased he was. Radio listen is far superior experience i’ve learned. Just hard to sync radio and a stream.
Because Smoltz is a fucking moron and Joe Davis is the Dodgers announcer and he’s clearly salty that the Brewers knocked his team out
Respectfully, Miz was mediocre last night compared to his regular season showing. Ashby was by far the better brewers pitcher last night. Smoltz was fine.
I feel like Chicago’s media “meanness” beats Baltimore, TB, and Toronto, but everyone else is battling for 7th place
Yeah as someone that has rooting interests/ties in Chicago and New York, the two are not very close lol. But Chicago definitely worse than others. However I wasn’t talking about how much they get after people, I was talking about how much of the media empire they control.
Everyone likes
Bro what?
Everyone but the AL East
Username checks out
That’s your imagination
Obviously the Yankees and Red Sox fans are excluded, I dislike your teams quite a bit. Boston fans are way worse though!
Orioles/Jays yall are ok. Just don’t get good again.
I like watching you guys, but I just can’t bring myself to actively root for a division rival
I just want to see my Mexican king Aranda get a ring. Still miss you Randy
I certainly don’t like you guys
Same. <3
That works against big market teams. Unfortunately, other plucky small market teams have you beat on their distance from Florida.
Unfortunately Junior had the balls to celebrate as a POC so there’s more hate now.
Win
That’s all it takes.
Lol I think theres more to it on why EVERYONE hates the Dodgers.
Nice try, victim.
I’m talking about Rays-Brewers and you bringing us up for some reason? Huh are you ok?
I stayed at the Pfister once for a conference. Took the elevator to the 7th floor and it opened up on the 4th and just didn’t move. The 4th floor was completely empty and mostly dark but there were a few lights along the walls so I walked around thinking id find a stairwell. It was quiet and chill and a little eerie but not too bad. I found a piano and started playing it for a while then a housekeeping woman showed up and asked what I was doing, said the floor was closed for renovations. She walked me to the stairwell and I walked up to my floor
The next day I mentioned this to the front desk and they said yeah that’s Susan, she passed away on 4 a few years ago. Jk, they were like yeah Susan mentioned she saw someone playing the piano, sorry about the elevator
Anyway, I didn’t really find it that creepy, it’s a beautiful old building
Found the ghost’s Reddit account
It’s been ten yeeeaaaarrrsss
I did business with the owners of this hotel about 10 years ago when LeBron was with the heat. The heat refused to stay there and Marcus hotel owns the intercontinental (as well as the pfister) and that’s where they would stay instead of the pfister. It got to the point so many teams ditched the pfister for the intercontinental that they had to renovate the gym to accommodate the requests of the teams. I provided the sound systems for all the Marcus hotels which is how I got wind of this.
NBA teams usually stay at the Klimpton Journeyman these days.
Do the Yankees still stay at the Ramada?
I thought a lot stayed at The Trade.
They refused to stay because of the alleged ghosts or for other reasons?
Older hotel not as modern and also the ghosts.
Stayed here on a road trip once. If it’s haunted, they left us alone, and it’s an awesome hotel
Stayed there in August on the haunted side and my kid was disappointed that we experienced zero other-worldly visitors. The Rangers were in town, so I told her the hotel probably gave them all the good (haunted) rooms.
Stayed there for a wedding. On the tower side, though. Aka the unhaunted side.
Did walk through the old side late at night, definitely gave me the willies
lol Mookie rents out an airbnb on purpose to avoid this hotel.
I stayed there for a work thing once. Very cool hotel but I didn’t see any ghosts.
did you stay in the original wing or the new wing?
I’m not actually sure. I didn’t know about the Pfister’s reputation until a year or two later so I didn’t pay that any mind at the time. The lobby bar was the main thing that made an impression on me at the time.
fair
you’ll have to come back and experience it again
Every postseason series the Brewers are in must have this mentioned at least once.
So it is written, so it shall be
Yet they have never won a WS. Hmmm. The ghosts must hate the locals more.
Jinkies!
Too be fair, how often is there a relevant ghost story during spooky season that baseball writers can cover?
Yep
Max Muncy is probably bummed he can’t hang out with the Tampa Bay ghosts
I have stayed at the Phister several times. It is a beautiful vintage hotel. The original part of the Hotel is haunted.
is that the same hotel the Yankees assistant to the travel secretary put them up in once upon a time
No that was the Ramada
If this series reaches Game 7, it’ll be back in Milwaukee on Halloween day. This is absolutely stacking up to be home field advantage
I’m not going to read the article, I’m just going to assume it’s the ghost of some Winconsonian who got really drunk and choked on a cheese curd in that hotel 100 years ago.
I heard it was a sick ghost.
eeny beeny, the spirits are about to speak. “on a 3 2 count with yelish, go low and inside with a change up”
Ghosts aren’t real
This is what I think about it: If you follow an Abrahamic religion like most people in the world and like many players claim to do, believing in ghosts is idolatry. If you are atheist or explicitly aren’t religious, why are you believing in ghosts?
Either way if they wouldn’t promote other religious beliefs as real/possibly real, they shouldn’t be doing it for this either. The same goes for curses.
Apparently Teo avoids it too lol
I feel like I hear about Milwaukee’s sp00ky hotel at least once a year, but are there no other highly rated hotels in the area? Whether or not you believe in the paranormal, I feel like teams could avoid this altogether if they simply booked a diffetent hotel lol
Ngl, I chuckled a lil when reading this article because Yandy Diaz said it was fair because the Brewers are staying at a hotel in Tampa that is also apparently haunted lol
Pretty sure this is the same hotel Mookie Betts refuses to stay at.
So if they lose they’ll blame ghosts?
Haunted hotel
Vs basement Gateway to Hell where the powers of the Devil radiate from. That’s why they’re the Devil Rays.
Max Muncy slept with a ghost and was never the same so I ain’t dismissing this.
