Waterproofing MFC boards

Hello, I’m looking to waterproof my new vivarium enclosure for my corn snake. It is made from laminate faced melamine chipboard. I asked on some of the snake subreddits but didn’t get many answers.

I’m planning to coat the inside with three layers of polyurethane varnish:

And then sealing the edges with HA6:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0DZPB8BPX/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&th=1

The main thing I’m looking for is will the polyuethane varnish stick to the laminate? I’ve lightly sanded it to give it something to grip onto but should I be using a primer as well?

I don’t plan for it to get wet directly, but the humidity in the enclosure may spike upto 60-75% at times.
