Spurs Head Coach Mitch Johnson Gives Message To Fans After 0-2 Start: “I hope they stay around for the next 80”
Knicks š¤ Spurs 14th seed bros
Weāll finally get the Number 1 overall pick again after all these years!
Well our pick is going to Sacramento (or OKC if we make the playoffs but we’ll never) so I believe we’re doing a nice act of charity giving them a high pick. Praise us.
I personally have lost all hope after 2 losses to great teams
Wait until you get Cam Boozled and Zach Edey snatched Wembyās soul
Not even mentioning Leading NBA Points Scorer Ty Jerome is so evil. At least let Wemby prepare for his doom!
So true. Best PG in the league best front court in the league.
We donāt gotta worry about them until late December
For now Iāll focus on Daniel Gafford and the Flaggless Mavs
Fair see you in December.
Time to start tanking for another top 4 draft pick
Ayeee weāre a great team
If weāre really basing everything off of 2 games, the Rockets certainly are strong championship contenders.
only 80? Spurs not making the playoffs confirmed
lmao he really jinxed us there
Has there ever been an NBA season where both teams in the previous finals started out as 0-2?
AND the Pelicans?
Surely all three have never happened before.
We may never lose another game š„“
1979ā80, when the Seattle SuperSonics and Washington Bullets both started 0ā2 after meeting in the 1979 Finals
Funny coincidence: Mitch Johnsonās dad was on that SuperSonics team.
The parity is at an all time high because everyone wants to win and doesn’t want to bottom out
I think the last one was 47 years ago
are YOU gonna be around for the next 80?
I think they’ll get their first win tomorrow against the Mavs. So that’ll be the start.
This may come off as copium but iām just chalking his questionable coaching decisions to testing out new lineups & seeing what data he can pull from them
It sucks weāre somehow losing because of it but he better have results as the season progresses
I really, really honestly think Mitch might actually just be a bad coach
It’s just San Antonio and the world doesn’t want to admit that they might have a bad coach because we’re accustomed to seeing them perennially having great coaching all the way up and down the coaching staff
I thought the Spurs were crazy to not hire Michael Malone
I wish Pop was still fully healthy.
After their multiple abysmal collapses in the finals I canāt trust him anymore. I genuinely think heās a dumb ass coach now
What do you think Mitch could have done in the Finals? They couldnt afford to sit Victor because Kornet is getting assblasted by KAT/ Brunson.
They have no other decent center/ big forward to give them front court pressure (they still dont have it unless Tobias Harris plays like last year)
Their guards could barely make something hapen against OG/Bridges/Hart
He made the finals on his first full year as a head coach and didn’t do perfectly so now he’s to blame for everything the Spurs do wrong.
God knows Pop never fucked up in a finals, particularly he never took out his best player on the most decisive defensive possession of a certain game 6.
He made a ton of bad calls.
First, he Took the ball out of Castleās hands and put it into Foxās. I think he was trying to lessen Castleās responsibility which is understandable, but they got to the Finals with him running things - even with his mistakes. It essentially made the team conservative.
Didnāt call a timeout in game 2.
Didnāt adjust in game 4 when Knicks were coming.
Defensive schemes. Heās a lucky man. He was one of the best POA defenders in the league and Wemby. And the rest of the team shows effort on defense. He doesnāt need a scheme. Except he does when one or both are out of the game. He just expects Luke to do what Wemby does and expects Harper to do what Castle does, and the end result is easy shots in the lane and whatever perimeter player Castle was guarding gets hot. And itās not Luke or Harperās fault. Luke isnāt a bad post defender, and Harper is actually quite good..there are just levels and if you donāt have elite defensive talent you need quality team defense.
Offensive schemes: ISO and Lobs, but now we donāt even give Spacing for our slashers. We donāt have screeners outside of Castle - but again, itās much better for the team when Castle is on ball..
Itd be hilarious if they went 0-82
I hate this guard lineup, they need a defensive wing whose like 6’8”
Bryant is somehow worse than last year.
Tobias Harris is injured
Even with Harris back, who are they benching?
Even thlugh they’re calling it a 3 guard lineup, theyre also starting Devin Vassell, who is also a guard.
Also, Bryant is kinda tiny for a PF which is what hes listed at. Idk much about him but this lineup is insanely small after Wemby/Kornet.
They need a few guys in that 6’8” jumbo wing range. They dont even have to be workd beaters, just guys who dont get destroyed on D
Same with the Knicks š©
Do you think they would keep him if the spurs were under .500 around all star break
Oh I’ll stick around for the next 80 Mitch. And I’ll be here for the next several decades after your idiot ass is fired.
im surprised the spurs stuck with him over the off season, hope he remains as the coach for wemby’s whole career
In his first full year as a head coach he made the finals. He also made the active choice to swap Barnes for champ which took the team to another level in the second half of the season. Im still on the fence about him but I think any coach in that position has built enough good will for another run, canāt think of many coaches in similar situations who were canned
Iām genuinely curious what Spurs fans think since youāve obviously watched Mitch coach more than I have, but from my viewpoint his coaching is nowhere near the driving force behind making the finals. Wemby couldāve dragged almost any coach in the league that far because heās just that good. Itās not exactly an endorsement of Mitchās coaching abilities and in some ways the early success might be making the organization blind to a problem that may need fixing. He had some very rough moments in the playoffs and arguably cost them several key games.
To be clear, I donāt think thereās a need to rush to firing the guy and he absolutely deserves a chance to learn and grow just like the young players do. Just saying his seat should be warmer than one might expect for a team that made it to the Finals.
He had some rough moments but so do most first year coaches who dont have an insanely stacked team full of vets. Pop wasn’t Pop until years later, realistically we can’t decide what kind of coach Mitch is yet, he had one year where he took us to the finals and 2 games where we played 2 very good teams while starting a new lineup that barely played together and clearly has growing pains rn. It isn’t a hard fix either cus we can still just move Dylan to the bench and that fixes a lot of problems we have on offense. The two biggest things that killed us in these 2 games are letting the thunder shoot great from 3 and letting the rockets take and make more fts in a very close game, even with some other problems it really is that simple so far
Most of our sub wants him fired lol. Iām still on the fence, but my general point was just from a FO perspective that he hasnāt done anything egregiously bad and has objectively been successful, and coaches learn and grow just like players do so I donāt think it was ever really in the cards for the FO to fire him entering this season. Figured theyād give him time to earn his stripes until the team actively underachieves with him at the helm
Keep running it back with him, i dont think he is the one
He very well might not be. But heās had one year and in that year the team surpassed expectations
Dude is with the most patient organization in the league lmao
firing a coach who made the finals in his first full season would be malpractice
Unless that coach is Ime Udoka
Yeah ask the Cavs if they regret firing Blatt
youāre surprised that the first year head coach who went to the NBA finals and knocked off the Championship favourite in the process didnāt get fired?
Some sour grapes there huh OKC fan? Wins one chip and starts talking to Spurs fans about knowing whoās the one. Not even nuggets fans would be so bold lmao.
damn can’t even question a coach who had a hand in blowing a finals win and whose team is 0-2 to start the season.
your coach ain’t great either lol
Knicks are 0-2 too. Mike Brown out the door next?
The internet has ruined basketball discourse. It is genuinely not fun to browse basketball forums anymore. You guys literally only care about the most recent thing you witnessed.
That guy is probably a last year thunder fan seeing as his reddit username wanks over Kobe. Likely a glory supporter
I think heās a good coach but thing is their Superstar Wemby is not making the next step. Feels like they all stagnated. Its early days though.
I mean heās currently 1-0 in ending thunder playoff runs so me too
Sure…also 0-1 in the finals. Definitely know where you priorities are. You guys know that you didnt win the chip right?
Also true, but acting like there was any chance they were about to fire the coach that helped them make the Finals in the first place is nonsensical at best.
I don’t think it’s nonsensical. ah well…Im glad they have him.
