As a diehard Hornets fan, I get it. I was upset at first, but the idea of a small-market team becoming a FA destination without a generational player is slim to nothing. What likely would have happened was that we waste a few more years of Melo’s prime and we sell low or lose him in FA. “A winning basketball culture will make it become a FA destination”, that hardly ever works. There are understandable reasons to question LaMelo’s long-term value ofc but when he was traded I was surprised by just how ignorant most people on this sub are about how impactful he actually is. Like nearly Haliburton-level impactful as a playmaker.
