How come Fox won’t stop with this oblivious AI slop?

They have “embraced” the AI slop this year, and yeah, it’s been awful
Have been unable to get over this one
Is Dave Roberts supposed to look like Ernest Scared Stupid?
Sure hope Ohtani pitches next season. Know what I mean, Vern?
My dad used to say that all the time. :’)
No, he does look like Ernest. Don’t you see? The AI stole this. From the movie box. That’s the whole problem.
I saw Rodney Dangerfield at first glance 😅
Dave Roberts gets no respect
GOAT movie for 8 year old me.
GOAT movie for 31 year old me
That’s the first thing I thought of 😂. But it also used to be my fav Halloween movie when I was a kid. Troll pulling the truck is scary to this day.
This was my favorite movie as a kid. I’ll allow it.
Gustavo Fring vibes
Know what I mean, Vern?
EeEeEeEeWwWwW
🤣
This can’t possibly be real?!?
Aired at October 15, 2026 at 8:02:50 PM eastern. A time that shall live in infamy.
I’m just now learning about it and it’s already one of my least favorite times
People will remember exactly where they were when this aired for the rest of their lives.
I can attest I also witnessed this and laughed a lot
Hell is empty and all the devils are here
I love how completely shitty this is. Its like a “so bad, its funny” kind of thing to me. Fuck AI art, still. But I cant help but laugh at the absurdity.
Wow, that is horrendus
They used to pay people to do this shit and it looked so much better.
this scared the shit out of me wtf
Don’t you mean, “the hit”?
Me, before seeing this graphic: “yeah, this AI slop from Fox is stupid, they need to knock it off”
Me, after seeing this: “hold on, let them cook”
This is closer to how it used to be, at least.
The OP is that pure PIXAR shit.
It’s my sleep paralysis demon
no its him depicted as The Scream
The shirtless player grilling was just annoying
That’s unreal
Fuck me that one is actually funny
Looks like an RL Stein rip off
Real talk, do the players and coaches have to sign something saying it’s okay to use their image and likeness within AI (for them to be able to do this) and any prompt the production sees fit?
Did dave Roberts approve this? Seems cracked mlbpa or coaches dudes would allow this
This is art
What the hell is even that??
Alright but this one is funny
Icl if you didn’t tell me this one was AI I never would’ve known it was
The one today was obviously AI but unless you’re trained to detect it you won’t notice most of the time.
This one is so incredibly obviously AI that I took out my phone and took a picture of it.
You don’t have to be “trained” to detect these things. Many of them very clearly look out of place.
Unfortunately it’s not just them it’s genuinely inescapable
It’s a shame when the local restaurants around me have a menu with nonsensical AI pics of their food lol
You mean to tell me a hamburger that look like glued together hyper saturated brown BBs doesn’t look appetizing?
Whaaaa? You mean to tell me you don’t find this AI picture of a kebab (that looks like 1000 maggots having an orgy in a roll of pide bread) appetising?
If you use AI for your menu I won’t eat there because I’m now assuming your food looks like fuckin shit and you’re embarrassed to take a quick cell phone pic of it
I just assume it means theyre lazy and I dont want lazy or sloppy people making my food. They just wont care enough.
It amazes me that anyone is willing to buy food from a restaurant with AI-generated food pics. Like that’s basically them saying their food looks so shit they don’t even want to show it
All the flyers I see on social media where you can’t read anything because it’s 1000 words in 80 different fonts and no cohesive design…
They all seem to use a single surely free app to create them. Same font and dark with yellow and red colors.
And the striking really innovative piece of decorative shit: the 3 whiskers kind of things around the big fonts lol
Every business does it here too.
here’s the thing:
You know a 13-year-old kid isn’t going to hire a professional graphics designer to make thumbnails for their TikTok or YouTube channel. You know the local mom&pop bagel store on the corner would rather make their own flyers with AI that pay someone. You know there are people that don’t have a budget for artists and they’re going to turn to AI as an alternative.
But billion-dollar TV networks like Fox and ESPN doing this shit? They’re just cheap-ass fucks with no excuse for it. You’d think they could at least hire some people talented enough with AI art that it wouldn’t come out looking like the usual awful slop.
You know there are people that don’t have a budget for artists
Yet all these stores managed to have signs/menus/etc before AI was a thing. They always had a budget even if it was small, they just now have an excuse to not use it.
I know this is kind of an MP but when AI food (or really any food) is even a tiny bit off it really triggers my OCD and makes me feel sick to my stomach, it’s made walking by restaurants hellish lately
My local hot pot…I was so sad.
It’s sad to think that all these places think “let’s get something that stands out” and then they all use the same type of AI Slop
Just Eat, one of the Uber Eats style companies here in Britain, just published an apology for it’s new AI tool which created images of menu items where the restaurant hadn’t published a picture, because of how shit it was.
I hate this timeline.
Everyone here is focused on the wrong thing. AI graphics are just the tip of the iceberg. Its truly everywhere and you’re falling way behind if you don’t learn how to use it.
Everywhere you go
It’s everyone and everything. All ads are fucking A.I. now. All videos are A.I. Everything is fake.
The entire American economy hinges on the success of AI. The amount of capital that has been spent to build the data centers, all the gear to implement it… It’s astronomical.
AI is over 12% of the US GDP right now. Genuinely, if the bottom ever fell out of AI there would be a massive recession in the ‘States.
That’s why it’s inescapable.
The thing it’s not. It can be done in photorealistic fashion where you wouldn’t’ be able to tell, in the same platform/model, even, they’re just being lazy and/or don’t know how to prompt.
AI slop is a hideous sacrilegious thing!
I’m certain the NFL reached out to every teams marketing department and told them to go absolutely fucking ham with AI shit. Everytime a team wins on Sunday they have a social media post with the dumbest fucking shit.
I knew they were going to hit it hard with the other sports when they started off the NASCAR season using it
The promos for Kevin Harvick’s podcast using a horrendously Frankensteined race car was a horrible omen
The stats on social media pages was atrocious. Multiple times teams were sending out false stats on graphics
Garbage
It’s because casuals love it
Only real baseball fans dislike AI
and it is the slop, not even the good AI design. Then again, they are too stupid to build a decent prompt.
They are literally coming out with a Harry Houdini miniseries where an AI-generated Houdini basically tells “his” life story from “his perspective”
It’s not even exclusive to this, they’ve been tricking that stuff in for their motorsports stuff too
The sub gushed all over the AI posters made last year for the Mariners playoff run. How the tides change.
I’ll defend the tiny mom and pop business for doing this. They get too much heat for just trying to stay afloat and accomplish all the other aspects of the business. But fucking Fox hell no
I won’t. I’ll just assume you take shortcuts with your actual product too
100%, I’ll find somewhere else to spend at
Do you only conduct business with firms that do their accounting by hand as well?
I’ll counter with all those great Chinese take out places that use the same ~24 stock Chinese food plate pictures on the wall, but make the most banging pork lo mein.
Dodgers fan, we don’t like your kind over here.
Flair up then bitch
Flairless dweeb we don’t like your kind over here
Put on a flair or shut up.
FOX used to have such dope graphics especially for football. Such a fucking shame.
Yea. It was kind of their thing. This is like if they started using AI bands in their bumper music.
Lord please protect their bumper music guys job. He is a jam band fan hero
I know where else do you hear moe . And phish in mainstream media
He was playing Cake the other day too. He’s got some deep cuts
I hate Phish and love that the bumper guy gets to play his tunes. Phish on the bumper music forever!
Shakedown Street!
JP Crawford used some AI slop for his walk up songs this season. I’m sure he’s not the only one, either.
The Fox mech is iconic
Cleatus!
So simple but effective. I wouldn’t have minded a different mascot or something more “modern” because everything has to change always but anythinggggg but AI slop.
It’s truly embarrassing that a company that makes this much money wouldn’t have enough pride to maintain that standard.
Pride? Standards? Those are company terms from a bygone era. Shareholders and quarterly profits. Those are what we need to be focused on.
Don’t worry once their profits start going down, because everyone is unemployed due to AI, they will finally realise their mistake (it will be too late).
They won’t realize their mistake til they are being pulled out of their homes by an angry mob let’s be real
Fox Corporation had to pay out 800 million dollars in legal settlements because their “news” division slandered the manufacturer of voting machines. Not one person at Fox Corp was punished for this. There are no standards at that company
Tucker Carlson was fired over it but he was the only one that faced any consequences for that
It’s not like you can go watch the game with their competitor. They’ve got the market by the balls
It is FOX we are talking about here.
Probably fired the guy making them
In no world is this better than their headshots on a plain background.
My hatred for AI art grows every day. It seeping into things like this drives me nuts.
It’s everywhere and only getting worse. Even memes suck now because of it.
Having to understand how to open Photoshop used to be the hurdle that kept the lowest common denominator from uploading garbage.
Rip.
It’s gotten to the point where I genuinely love poorly photoshopped human-made memes now just because someone actually put effort into it and I feel a human connection to the creator.
This has been a thing in the music world for awhile also. Leaving flaws and imperfections in to retain the human quality.
Spotify is infested with AI music
Yeah that basically goes all the way back to punk and is pretty much the guiding rule of classic alternative and indie
I long for the days when the office manager and events committee only had access to corny Canva templates.
Same, but for WordArt in Office 97
MS paint gang represent!
It’s almost r/collegebasketball season so there will be plenty
Niu Lai gang rise up!
Humans have to use their imagination for a good prompt too. The human element is still there.
Photoshop? This shit makes me miss Microsoft Paint.
That’s one way to look at it. Another is that the barrier is lower, more people make more things, and better content will win in the end.
Paying for photoshop is the bigger hurdle. But the good news is that thanks to AI we now have totally free Adobe clones
There have been cheaper/free photoshop alternatives for decades.
Totally free clones that don’t work for shit yet. Seriously, I can trust GIMP even if it’s more basic, but the AI-rebuilt version of Photoshop? Forget it.
nobody paid for Photoshop.
“It used to be hard to cook a steak but the good news is now I can eat my own shit.”
Yeah sure, GIMP, which I’ve used since 2012, absolutely exists because of AI.
the food ads bother me the most, you eat with your eyes first and here you are advertising burgers that look like brains?
It’s like, at this point I don’t even mind if they used AI to build the graphs and such, as long as it’s accurate and doesn’t look like some artsy fartsy shit, but just leave the fuckin animated managers out of it. PUT A FUCKIN PHOTO UP HOLY SHIT
the time it takes to have that graphic made by a graphics person vs AI is about 8:1. Maybe 10:1. extend that through all sports properties and the savings on salaries, healthcare, human resources is a line item on a spread sheet FOX decided they’d turn on. it’s about their bottom line as (most likely) a focus group told them that they would watch the event regardless of the graphics.
one example of the shittying of the world
I really wish they didn’t use it at all, but I’m not really an idealist. I would 100% support a complete AI ban though.
As a mathematician and computer scientist, I can say that AI is a very broad thing that’s had great applications in many fields for decades, so I don’t really see a straight-up ban ever making sense. Deep learning is ultimately just an intersection of linear algebra and calculus, and banning certain types of math isn’t a direction I ever want us to go. It’s a fascinating field in and of itself.
The main thing will be to keep up the social and economic pressure for corporations to quit using it to mass produce these ugly ass pictures that nobody wants to see. Eventually most of them will realize one way or another the obvious fact that it’s not profitable to market themselves with off-putting slop.
I dont even need the focus group to know that practically noone is going to turn off a sports broadcast and boycott them in the future because they use AI graphics.
it’s more a paper cut in the death by a thousand paper cuts scenerio.
They’ve been using animated, larger then life photos long before AI was a thing.
Or they can use real photos like they always have
it’s not hard to just take their actual pictures and put them there
They even paid for the rights to use their image. It’s straight up laziness
It’s not laziness, it’s because they don’t have to pay an AI generator. It’s pure capitalism, baby!
I have a burning hatred for AI in general, but especially AI art slip
Not to wax poetic, but it is literally killing the human spirit/soul. What makes us special.
machines can only repeat existing patterns. we are 100% losing creativity with this tech
There is nothing special about us. I could show you better graphics that you would not be able to tell if a machine made it.
There’s nothing special about YOU, sloplicker. You killed that spark.
It weirds me out that it all looks the same, but that’s also kind of comforting? Since it makes it easier to spot.
Yeah, all in this looks AI. The managers of course, but that data looks exactly like every single other data table created with AI
The best thing about AI is how easy it is to identify. For now…
You only think it all looks the same because the AI you recognize all looks the same.
I promise that you’ve seen and read a ton of AI that you didn’t identify.
I’m talking about the food/menu/data/marketing bullshit. I know there’s other stuff out there that looks way more realistic, but you can always tell when some executive or business owner wanted to use it to cut corners.
ok smart guy
I’m not sure why you got downvoted for this. The most insidious AI is the kind that isn’t obvious, low-effort slop.
What you don’t like when restaurants have nasty looking ai slop on their menus?
But this way they can fire the graphic design team and their executives can make 1% more money!
Don’t educate yourself about the current status of the stock market. You’ll want to move to the wilderness and become a prepper.
A possible silver lining is that it makes it easier to identify authenticity.
Or at the very least to more easily identify inauthenticity.
It’s in everything right now, and it’s going to get so much worse.
Come on that cat stealing the Costco salmon is pretty funny
To be fair, this is not AI art, this is pure slop. They could not be bothered to use a frontier model that can make pro graphics. They are using the cheapest and simplest stuff with probably some of the most simplistic one-sentence-long prompts possible. This is no better than a toddler with fingerpaint.
You guys sound like fucking losers. AI is one of the best tools humans have ever created.
You’re the same people who would have complained when they invented agriculture because you loved foraging for berries.
Found the guy that can’t think or create anything
Let the hate flow through you
Idk but the goodboi riding the unicorn made me chuckle
It was quite fucking bad lol.
They literally look like low-budget PlayStation 2 cutscenes,it’s so embarrassing.
Every time I see the “Foxtober” logo I debate jumping off my roof
Big corporations know that while this stuff is very unpopular with at least some percentage of the audience, all they have to do is keep using it long enough that it become normalized for the next generation, and that next generation will simple accept it and assume that this is just the way things work.
Kind of like how video game companies pushed microtransactions in the mid-late 00s. While those of us who were already part of the hobby pushed back, the kids coming up didn’t know any different, so they happily bought shark cards, and loot boxes, and skins in fortnite, and so on.
My 10-year-old fucking hates AI-generated art and can spot it a mile away. He’s gone so far asked me to chew out his principal for letting the school use it for event posters rather than having the kids draw something.
Hell yeah, give that little guy an extra scoop of ice cream (or whatever the equivalent treat in your household is).
Kids are surprisingly good at spotting AI. Much better than those 50+ for sure
Kids don’t randomly hate AI unless they were coached to
They didn’t really succeed insofar as MTX in gaming, I mean yeah in dogshit mobile games and lowest common denominator slop sure but as far as actual AAA games that are of some quality, they still get regularly raked over the coals for MTX and forced to scale back on it and most don’t even bother trying anymore (the current favorite ways to bilk money out of people are preorders and deluxe editions). People have even started forcing sports games to cut down on MTX recently and those guys were the OGs of doing this scummy shit, they were doing it before it was cool
Fox is the only one that does it to this insane amount which sounds about right for a company like them
They’re not even using the latest iteration of whatever image-generating AI that they’re using. You can tell by how “polished” and smooth the skin looks.
It’s just confusing. The photos already exist, they could have just used one of the countless still images available of both guys. It was more work in this case to use AI. And it looks worse.
Give the world series to TBS!
Fox is only guaranteed 2 more World Series. Hopefully some other network, ANY other network, finally gets the rights from Fox for the first time in 30 years.
Or NBC
It’s so shitty man, I hate it here
Network television having a zero-effort budget is depressing.
Normalize bad AI making it harder to spot good AI
Normalize Mass Surveillance and Drone Arrests
Normalize Federal armed forces in your cities
All part of the Fox playbook
Someone sat in an office, made that choice and thought it was okay. The quality is not the worse thing about it. No one said they had to but they did it anyways.
How does normalizing bad AI make it harder to spot good AI?
Because it makes people assume that AI is incapable of doing better so when they get hit with very life like AI, they would never be able to spot it
It’s conditioning the general public to believe AI is benign.
AI the govt and these organizations have is levels beyond what we are shown.
This is just free model slop released to the public to desensitize and make reliant on AI.
Overwhelm until you give up.
Ill assume this is a genuine question.
If we start accepting (I.e. not rejecting, critically opposing) bad AI slop, the good AI slop that passes for actual graphics, commercials, ads, etc will go unnoticed and unchallenged. We need to reject all AI slop, otherwise the well manipulated slop will become too prevalent. Propaganda and maliciously misleading content (videos) will be even more prevalent. We need guardrails like yesterday on it
People think that the bad AI is the only AI, and grow complacent about being able to spot it easily. So when AI is used in unexpected ways and unexpected places, it is more likely to slip by.
For example, there are people that don’t know that the ‘Tip Toein in my Jordans’ clip is AI because it’s emulating an 80’s fantasy movie.
Good AI makes you doubt everything you see if there are functioning cells left in your brain to talk to each other
Bad AI gives you a false sense of security, so you don’t know when you’ve actually been duped
do you have a brain in your head or are you a russian bot?
Yeah I think people forget what network these games are on
Lachlan Murdoch has won the game and grabbed the reins of all Fox until 2050
He is by all accounts much more conservative and far right than his father.
His siblings were ousted and paid off by Fox for being ‘too liberal’
Oh, and Fox isn’t Disney? So they aren’t both doing this?
What do you mean? That’s a real photo they took, not sure why you think that’s AI 🙄
That’s Al Rank
My gf literally asked me if that was his name…
The face of a man about to fail the ragebait level in the mobile game ad.
My favorite hat company is P6, so this checks out
Pew 6ra
Looks closer to AI mike McDonald (seahawks head coach)
Was thinking the exact same thing. Had to do a double take
Amazing that they can’t figure out a way to pay their staff to make cool graphics.
Are you kidding? They think its amazing that they can not pay their staff to make cool graphics
True story.
Oh they know damn well how to pay their staff
They just don’t want to
The Foxtoberfest logo is so obviously AI generated.
I can even get past the two footballs (one is NCAA and the other is NFL) but regardless, it just screams AI design.
I took a picture of it, it was so ugly.
Fox has terrible taste and contempt for its own employees. In other breaking news, the sky is blue.
Of course they know how to pay staff to make cool graphics. They just see no need to when a basic bitch AI image generator can do it for a fraction of the price.
The staff is gone
Had an acquaintance that was a graphic designer at Fox sports. Has since left for Amazon, but he’s fully embraced the AI slop. Seems wild to me.
Why would they pay staff when they can stuff their own pockets?
At this point, they’re just trolling everyone. It’s a “because we can” thing. It has to be right?
Media companies think they stand to save millions of dollars with AI tools.
1000%
It’s cheap. And if enough people don’t complain they can get away with it. If you don’t like it, you need to let them know that their cost-benefit analysis was wrong by posting about it, writing complaints, etc.
Edit: Guys I get complaining probably won’t do anything. You don’t need to all comment this
I would be shocked if anything short of a mass boycott of the WS did anything to make them reconsider, at least as far as what fans can do. Because complaints or not, if you still watch the games, they still make the money.
Complaining doesn’t mean shit. Not supporting them is the only thing that’ll matter.
If we complained as hard as Boomers complain about curse words would the FCC listen?
It’s fast. And much like when photoshop started making the rounds, it becomes part of your toolbox. And then when your bosses want more output quicker, it becomes a bigger tool. Until there is massive public pushback, and not just niche websites, they will continue using it.
I know Reddit defaults to cynicism, but every company I’ve worked at does use customer/client approval (as measured by surveys/reviews) as one of their primary yearly KPIs. If the company’s net promoter score plummets, a change is gonna be made. But they won’t necessarily know what change needs to be made unless people complain.
Regardless of whether or not the company genuinely values you, it’s just more profitable for them to have happy customers that keep coming back and recommending them to others.
And most of the population can’t even tell that these are AI and an even bigger population don’t even care or don’t know the implications.
Saving money on a graphics guy by just throwing whatever the computer shits out in 5 seconds on the screen. They love this sort of thing.
If anything they like it. Basic engagement driving strategy.
This is just a continuation of their shittiness. Fox has been the worst broadcast for every sport I watch for a long time now. If you’re watching a Fox broadcast you know you’re getting more ads and worse coverage for a higher cost.
They also know that if they just keep doing it, fans will “get over it” eventually.
Just more of the enshittification movement.
If enough people did that it affected their profit it would. That’s highly unlikely though
People aren’t going to boycott sports due to AI graphics that are up for like 10 seconds at a time. I hate em too but it doesn’t matter how much people on social media complain
It’s not going to. Nobody is turning off the World Series over this and they know it
I did, I’ll just check the box score.
Yeah but none of us are going to stop watching the World Series so it doesn’t really matter
And it’s Fox, of Faux News fame
But it’s not actually cheap. These AI companies are charging a lot for their enterprise subscriptions
A business plan for ChatGPT is $100 a month for the premium version. That’s pocket change to the MLB
Wow, guess there’s a lot of AI defenders in the baseball sub. Ridiculous
I wasn’t defending AI at all. I fucking hate it. I’m just correcting the assumption that it isn’t cheap
Brother I could make this on grok in a minute. You don’t need a premium AI subscription to make this kind of image
Which is actually even more embarrassing! That something of that poor quality is what they think is worthy of being used at the World Series
I was gonna say “nah bro that’s actually Pat” then I looked at Cash
He looks like he’s coming to Fortnite.
He looks like he should be in toon town.
Leaning more Lou Piniella for me.
Looks like Lou Piniella vs a younger version of the old dude from Up
This looks like one of them AI videos where their wife cheats on them and they break up, only to take some lymphatic drainage supplement and become super fit and happy. Then once they’re at their best they run into their ex wife and shes all excited and tries to get back with them but he says naw I’m with another AI woman who is digitally the polar opposite of you
I’ll just have to assume that exists and is common enough to be a genre in and of itself.
But I also have to ask, how do you even come across something like that? The only time I see AI videos on YouTube is when I’m somehow logged out of my account and I see the “front page”. Maybe my alg is super narrow or something?
I had a dark thought while watching TNF last night. A vision of a future where broadcasters are replaced by AI. All graphics are AI. Cameras are controlled by AI. Every aspect of the broadcast is AI. And since they’re the only way to watch the game, people just accept it. The commentary is unlistenable. The presentation is butt ugly. But they don’t care anymore, because people want to watch the games.
I really don’t want that future for sports, but as corporations focus more and more on slop I worry about it.
KBO has an english language broadcast that is live translated by and spoken by an all-AI two man booth. It’s essentially unlistenable
I would rather try learning Korean
Hell, I’d rather just listen to it in Korean and not understand a word they’re saying.
Exactly
At that point, why bother even doing it? Ugh
Oof
Do you have a link? I’m really curious to hear this
Same
Hasn’t Al Michaels done enough in his career?
Poor guy’s being worked to death right when he’s about to retire 😂
It was literally misreading Al’s name in a game thread that made me go down that thought process lol
This is already happening, Washington State University just had a ton of blowback because they are using an AI company for their sports content https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2026/oct/07/wsu-turns-to-artificial-intelligence-to-assist-spo/
Mind you, WSU has it’s own sports journalism and sports comm majors in their Journalism school and they are still farming this work out to AI rather than leveraging the real students who would be interested in doing it.
This is embarassing but for the first two innings I had Fox Sports open on Youtube, not Fox One. The first two innings were clearly run by a computer that was glitching. The camera was focused exclusively on the pitcher’s mound, nothing else. The audio was also some kind of bizarro Halloween slop. It was insane.
So I think we’re already here.
I think the idea is that it’s focused on the pitcher’s mound because they don’t want you to be able to watch the game for free. So they’re showing something on youtube, but not the proper game
Could be. I subscribed to Fox One just for the playoffs, I didn’t realize I was on the wrong channel.
You forgot AI players, the most important cost saving measure
I could see this being a think in gaming videos
Who needs a salary cap or floor when the robots play for free!
I mean companies are falling over themselves to brag about how much AI they use. This place is getting so weird
We already accept a worse product than previous year every year. More ads, even during the game. Ad placement. Watch a game from the 90s. It’s a different experience. And we will just have to accept it, because the MLB is a legal monopoly.
What if TNF replaced Al with AI? You’d think that Al has been on TV long enough that they’d have enough material to feed into AI. Would you be able to tell that it’s an AI Al vs just plain old Al? Would Al get royalties when AI Al does a broadcast? What if AI Al and Al did a broadcast together? And would AI Al sound normal or be some sort of weird Al?
In New York, Off Track Betting went belly up in 2010. Now you can bet on a random number generator instead, but there’s been an effort to air random old races that people can bet on.
All athletes are AI next
I don’t know exactly how it works, but HUDL has cameras at high schools that track action based on where people are. It may be something that AI could improve, much to our dismay.
When I was in high school I was the soccer manager, which involved filming every game the team played. Now, that position is gone. I’m the announcer and scoreboard and no one else is in the press box with me.
Honestly the cameras having AI assistance is probably a good use lol. I just wanted a third thing to list. Although it would suck if it eliminated jobs.
I shot video of each game on a giant VHS camera in high school. They told me I should go work for ESPN. But I’m human still so probably won’t be the right type soon.
If any of these areas are unionized, they should be pushing back hard on this as soon as possible.
You look at pretty much any iconic moment in sports history and there is a call that goes with it, full of emotion (Joe Buck excluded), passion and excitement. Why would someone want to take the soul out of it? (I know the answer, but it’s fucking stupid)
Eventually, they replaced the players with ai & no one noticed
Everything you mentioned is going to happen.
The broadcasters wouldn’t even be that hard (at least to make bad) id imagine, video games have been doing it forever (granted with limited lines)
I’ll stop watching. I’ll go watch local teams in person in smaller leagues and less popular sports before I watch AI broadcasts.
Local radio dude. Most TV is garbage yapping.
I felt that at some point, they will try AI commenting as well, but it will be in the voices of the “classic” commentators, like Vin Scully, John Madden etc. I mean, Tony Romo got payed 1 million dollars per game, imaginære the savings potential.
Al Michaels keeps things fresh if you spend half the time internally correcting his mistakes
why not just make every team and manager and fucking hotdog seller ai too?
Or it’s because the biggest sponsor is google ai
Bro I turn off a game now if I don’t like the commentary team so I’m not worried about this future. I’m ready for a world without sports honestly, but probably because we are paying college kids millions.
I will listen to the radio broadcast instead.
i think they’re betting that in a few years, generative ai will have advanced so much it will be hard to tell the difference. the advancements since 2012 are hard to comprehend.
I don’t think announcers will be replaced by AI. I agree on all other aspects.
Why stop there? The players and game play can be generated by AI as well.
AI will never ‘know’ what is interesting, so sports broadcasting is (mostly) immune from AI takeover. It’s all subjective, so an AI would completely fuck everything up and make it boring and formulaic.
Your concerns are valid, but monopolization seems to be the true concern you have. They can make the broadcasts unwatchable with or without AI if they don’t care about the product.
AI is absolutely capable of understanding what people find interesting. It’s made plenty of headway in that regard as it is.
AIs have made almost zero headway in that department vesides gaining a wider vocabulary and access to literary devices
At some point it’ll be “trained”, unfortunately. As long as people are still watching, they will serve this dog shit up. The only thing they care about is money.
If there’s already backlash against graphics like this then that’s basically never going to happen. We’re seeing a ton of AI created content right now and in the near-term because it’s novel and everyone’s figuring out what the sweet spot is in terms of what they can outsource to AI and what they can’t. But as long as people ultimately want and demand things created/curated by other people at the end of the day, there will definitely be a limit because it will ultimately be tied to revenue as well.
They don’t respond to backlash anymore. They don’t have to, they’re too powerful. They’re going to keep shoving it down your throat and children will grow up thinking it’s normal, and that resisting it is unc/grandpa shit.
Like how some of us remember taking airplane trips that weren’t preceded by a full-on humiliation ritual with orders being barked at you while you endure invasive searches and jail-style shakedowns, none of which makes any flight more secure. But you go with a teenager and they just accept that that’s how air travel is.
I agree that it definitely won’t all be AI like in that scenario, but I also think that people will stomach a good amount of slop if it’s the only way to watch games. Overall, I’m usually not as big of a doomer about AI as a lot of people on here, and I do agree it’s much more likely to eventually hit a “sweet spot” as far as profitablity for the broadcasters go. It’s just a matter of waiting to see where the spot ends up being.
Not that big of doomer. Shares dark thoughts. I think you’re a classic case of closet doomer my friend.
Everyone took the uniform ad patches without saying a word or doing anything to protest (more of those are coming as well).
It’s a monopoly though so it doesn’t matter. Wanna watch the world series? Gotta watch fox. Wanna watch the Patriots? Gotta watch CBS. Wanna watch MNF? Gotta watch ESPN. There’s no competition so they can do whatever the fuck. If you want to see the game, you have no choice. That makes it seem like it doesn’t hurt viewership and it’s cheaper so they’ll go all in.
why use real photos when they can just make them look like a mobile phone game ad?
Because the alternative is paying people.
A buddy of mine pointed out that Fox is probably exactly the type of org that has aggressive “AI adoption” stuff written into their annual goals.
No, the alternative for any reasonably trained person would be to use publicly available (free) images of each manager in a thoughtful pose. Real photos, that is.
This is designed to attract the attention of two-year olds.
DING DING DING (Signed, a graphics op for sports broadcasts)
Better to save a few bucks to pay the robots lol
It’s so low quality. Genuinely shameful.
It’s fox, they’re all about the degradation of society
Truly. They want to make things as bland, boring and stupid as possible
Emphasis on stupid
Sure, this is a fox only issue. How have so many people become programmed with nothing other than politics?
Fox isn’t politics, it’s propaganda.
Oh yeah.. only fox.
Sorry to burst your bubble kid, anything you see on TV or your phone is propaganda.
At least I would hope you’re not an adult with this narrow view.
I’m actually smart enough to make my own opinion based on what I observe. And what I’ve seen and heard is that fox news wants to drive a wedge in the people so they can push their agenda. Your narrow ass apparently buys into 100% which further proves my point.
Everything is political. How do you not see that?
Oh I see it. It’s fucking exhausting.
Oblivious?
OP is oblivious to the holes in their vocabulary.
Quasimodo predicted all this
Absolute cinema
Because it’s cheap to produce. They don’t have to pay a graphic designer.
Fox has been pumping out AI slop all year in every sport they cover. It’s not going to stop. It also doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that Fox is the one that has fully embraced the slop.
Invested in the slop
“iT’s ThE fUtUrE!!! yOu’Ll GeT lEfT bEHiNd iF yOu DoN’t UsE iT!!!”
This would be a great NFT.
This is literally true if you work in software. Nobody is saying this about shitty AI art.
What’s literally true about it is people working in software are going to spend the next couple of decades cleaning up sloppy ass vibe coding.
It’s good for some very niche, highly specific settings, I will give it that…
cyber security companies are printing because of all the garbage code out there
That’s not a guarantee. I write better code now than before but I know that can’t be true everywhere and I saw plenty of terrible code that needed plenty of cleaning up (or just trashing) before AI generated code too
Only place it’s true btw
“What can you do about it?” is basically the prevailing attitude of everyone at the controls these days
Because they no longer have graphic designers most likely
It’s lazy. And nobody should be surprised by that. This is driven by ROI. And the cheapest way to maximize that is to drive down the ‘I’. The world of AI has given every cheap-suit-wearing exec an excuse to reduce the investment. And we get this garbage.
The one with the dude grilling was just fuckin weird
Because it’s cheap and they have a captive audience with sports
It is cheaper to just throw up their pictures
You also need to design the graphic – it’s more than just their picture s that are AI generated
It’s really not. You can generate this image with a free chatgpt account.
I mean, not that I’m defending AI, but if anything both options are essentially free I would think
username checks out.
It’s cheap and 95% of the non reddit audience won’t notice/care.
Everyone on LinkedIn will care. Insane amount of AI posts over there.
You’re saying Cash doesn’t look like that?
Bleeding Christ it’s so low effort lol. They have no shame.
Its a bad look. Cheap ai graphics so lazy.
