Making of my graduation project for design school
Very cool, and smart move getting a pro paint shop/ coatings facility. Its very hard to replicate that by hand and you dont want your hard work ruined by a bad looking paint job.
Yes exactly I’ve done it before and it was trashhhh
How did you avoid oil canning? Looks cool.
I mostly do small welding points !
Great work btw very cool concept
Was wondering myself though I’ve used MIG often to limit heat dispersion, air to cool as you go.
My jaw absolutely DROPPED when I got to the end product! Seriously incredible work, love the design and color choice! Bravissimo!
Thank you su much!!!
Very cool build
But hot-dog, those welds are bad
Less to no manipulation/whipping and lower wire speed would do wonders
Edit: to address the deleted comment calling me out for being a non welder or troll, this is a stringer I built last winter https://www.reddit.com/r/Welding/s/KbsWin7Oht
Welding is what I’ve done for the past 12-13 years
Still learning but they hold well and all hidden inside the structure
Even if only 20% of each weld was properly fused I think it would be plenty strong enough for table/chair/shelf, more food for thought than anything, particularly if you plan on welding more
I think the takeaway here is he or she is in design school so while the welds could be better, their focus is primarily on execution of the design. A lot of designers don’t need to be masters of every trade involved in bringing a design to life.
Hence why I offered praise for the design and advice for better welds
Colder welds, less warping?
Yes and no, a huge weld like OP with lower voltage is going impart similar heat as a small and hot weld. Bracing, patience, and bouncing around so you don’t over heat one area will do a lot to mitigate warpage
Sad that you got troll pinged by the snowflakes. Your advice here has been solid and on point and will absolutely contribute to a better result next time around.
It doesn’t bother me, the internet is anonymous and If someone doesn’t know anything about welding they’d have no frame of reference for if I was advising in good faith or not.
Dude who also responded to you has a bit of a point in that no where in OPs post did they ask for advice; my line of thinking is that welds support weight, if welds are bad the weight can fall and hurt someone, therefore I feel an obligation to point out potentially dangerous welds and offer what pointers I can to help that person not produce welds that can/will endanger folk, whether they ask for that advice or not
Was welding advice asked for?
Talented
Thanksss
Do you work for the empire by any chance?
My same thought! Imperial Guard dining set
Remind me of the Siths (star wars) design. Looks really good!
I’m an interior designer for evil overlords. Do you have a catalogue?
That’s Darth Vaders desk
That is very wicked looking!
This is a great post! Lots of good pics… cool results… thanks for sharing!
Queue irrational fear of being impaled by that spike.
How’d you even transport this masterpiece? Or how does it get graded?
Those welds are hideous
