Ausar Thompson attacks his defender off the dribble and pulls up from mid-range (twice)
Doesn’t matter how good your defense is if you force your team to play 4v5 on offense against playoff teams
Guys like Tony Allen and Andre Roberson have proven that statement wrong, but I will agree that it complicates your offense when a wing can be completely ignored by the other team.
Tony Allen and Roberson played over 10 years ago… Its a different league.
Aside from the fact that both of them played less than 10 years ago, if you don’t think TA would be effective in the modern NBA, I don’t know what to tell you. He made All-Defense as an old man in 2017, which was after the league began shifting to positionless smallball.
But fine, GP2 is a current example.
Don’t remember them winning shit Allen got a ring as an 8th man off the bench
Ah yes, nothing counts unless you won a title, and sometimes even winning a title doesn’t count. Brilliant.
In the 2013 WCF, the Spurs left Allen wide open from 3 and dared him to shoot while the Spurs packed the paint.
Yeah same thing happened with the Warriors in 2015. They put Bogut on Allen which let him camp in the paint. Turned around the series.
He need to keep shooting!! It’s preseason and best way to get better is live reps. I love this shit
Absolutely. His shot looked smooth and confident in our first game, so I’m not writing the guy off
We don’t actually have a fixed starting lineup. We have Cade Cunningham and four interchangeable guys getting paid starter money. Outside of Cade carrying the heavy load, our starter-tier talent is a complete illusion. Swap out the other four starters for our bench unit, and the team operates at virtually the same level.
The one major exception that both our management and fan base continue to undervalue is Duncan Robinson. He’s essential because his floor spacing gives Cade the room he actually needs to operate. Without a threat like him pulling defenders away, the entire offense bogs down.
Not sure I agree with you there. Statistically we know this from last season (well the regular season at least):
Cade was an elite PnR ballhandler
Duren was an elite roll man
Collins is great on the roll or the pop, 40% from three the last couple years, had an elite PnR game going earlier in his career with Trae
Duncan is an elite catch-and-shoot guy
I think those 3 guys are a natural fit with Cade. Ausar is the only awkward fit, but you live with it because he’s probably the best defender in the league outside of Wemby. It does feel like we should experiment more with 5-out lineups, potentially with Ausar at the 4 and Collins at the 5. It would have to be situational of course.
Ausar would be an awkward fit on any team, but also start on basically any team.
Would it be great for him to be serviceable offensively? Obviously. But he’s just such a good defender, who cares.
Collins hasnt played a single minute with Cade
Duren during playoffs, visual test and stats dont back what youre saying
your post is about Ausar. He is not a starter level and hes getting paid starter money. Ausar without Cade is not a starter. Cade is a floor raiser.
Cade as floor raiser also applies to Duncan and Duren and likely Collins
If your entire argument against Duren is “Dur last year’s playoffs” it’s not a good argument.
Swap out the other four starters for our bench unit, and the team operates at virtually the same level.
Depth 😤
Believe it or not the best on ball defender in the league is definitely a starter lol
Outside of Cade carrying the heavy load, our starter-tier talent is a complete illusion.
This is an indefensible exaggeration. Ausar would start on any team in the league, Duren starts for at least 20 teams. The fact we have strong depth that allowed us to next-man-up our way through injuries last year does not mean the starters are fools gold; it just means we have a strong culture where everyone knows the system and stays ready and willing to pick up the slack when someone goes down
Ausar would not start for the Knicks, Thunder, spurs, or rockets.
He’s a good player, but he is a roster construction disaster.
He’s extremely overvalued.
If you don’t think Ausar would start on the spurs you are smoking good dope. Him and Wemby on the floor at the same time would literally be a cheat code
That’s just dumb, calling Duren, an all nba player, an “interchangeable” player is straight up stupid.
playoffs? Paul Reed outplayed him and he was our ‘3rd center’. interchangable.
Yeah he had a bad stretch, it doesn’t define everything he is as a player, don’t be such a lazy hater.
His outside shot is really coming along. Give him another 5 years and he’ll be hitting the rim at minimum.
Meh, he knocked down those shots last game. We’ll see what happens during the season.
I just do not understand how fucking ass you can be like this when it’s what you’ve been doing basically your whole life lmao
AT LEAST DONT AIRBALL LMAO
The craziest thing is its both of them lmao their dad must’ve ran defensive drills 24⁄7 and assumed the jumper would come in later
they were probably dunking on kids by 6th grade lol they never needed a jumper
That’s no excuse to shoot 2 airballs in a row from those spots. Any highschool basketball player would’ve at least hit the rim. And I mean any, even the unathletic bad ones like i used to be.
I completely agree. I don’t understand how you can have access to the best coaches money can buy & unlimited freetime and you still can’t atleast shoot like 30%
They said on a podcast they’d do lateral slides around a track for hours at a time
Great passes TBH
$150m dollar player btw
Which would make him not even the highest paid starter on that team without the semblance of a jumpshot
At least Duren can cope by saying he’s a big man. Ofc Duren doesn’t do big man things all that well either.
Yeah he just tripped and fell into all star and all nba…
To make precise alley oop passes into the paint? Worth every penny.
If you don’t want him, I’ll take him. Any team is better with Ausar, I don’t care if he doesn’t take a shot all day
Their 1v1s must have been horrendous
I just searched it up and apparently it led to a ton of fist fights and their dad had to ban them from 1v1ing lmaooo they probably couldnt make any shots
Games probably went for hours lol
They’re still playing to 21
They played first to 3 so they could be home before the streetlights came on
Neither of them would be able to score
Yikes
Jesus Christ…
Inexcusable at the NBA level, not to mention that contract.
I don’t know why I assumed it would be a positive outcome based on the title.
Good for him keeping at it. Gotta get game speed reps to figure it out. Opposite of Ben Simmons
Call me crazy, but I think those Thompson brothers might not learn to shoot.
How?
Ben Simmons
He was 3⁄3 in the last game to be fair
Better start praying and say Amen
The form has improved and the big know to anticipate the airball so I’d say it’s a win-win.
Both Thompson twins play with a ton of energy. Fun group of young athletes in Detroit and Houston.
Im just happy to he him taking them. Literally anything is better than the ball just dying
Second shot isnt a pull up

Get paid to hit brick, good life
Glorified jarred jeffries
Nice passes
Look the first one was rough rough, but the second one is just awful shot selection regardless of the outcome.
lol this made me laugh
I’m a fan so I will act like this didn’t happen 😔
I mean it’s actually good that he has the confidence to shoot again after airballing though the 2nd one might be a confidence breaker lol
terrencerosscringing.gif
Great passes
Is the first one really home “attacking” the defender? Looks like the big man just “screens” and holds the defender until shooter gets into position and shoots lmao
“Soft touch”
Very curious to see who takes the scoring load from Tobias Harris now that he’s on the spurs
delete this, nephew
I posted his nice middies from the first game, so I thought it was only fair to also share these gems
some guys you can give all the shooting/skill training in the world and it will never take
Damn I’m looking at both Detroit and Houston differently now
Differently? Have you not seen a single Houston or Detroit game in the last 3 years?
Are you trying to tell me the Thomson twins could shoot mid range jump shots last season lol?
He also made all of his middies in previous game. He doesn’t turn into a bust after missing these ones, nephews
