Wemby casually juggling a basketball like a soccer ball during warmups
He does it every game, but this level of coordination for a guy this tall is clearly not normal.
I would say there are a lot of things about him that aren’t normal.
Aye yo
Dosunmu
Fr juggling a ball isnt generally impressive or anything, but this dudes feet are like a mile away from his head lol
His neck is already a mile long
All the European players do it even the African it’s was definitely their first sport in childhood
It’s also way less difficult than it looks like. Like it’s still difficult but it’s one of those “pick it up accidentally when you were a child and it kinda sticks in there forever” skills that you dont have to train that much for unless you wanna do the SUPER impressive stuff.
Now to be fair he WAS doing some of the impressive stuff like the Around the Worlds. Never been able to do that one, bro definitely has put in the hours
tbf with his leg length, around the worlds are probably pretty easy for him lmao
Around the god damn solar system.
What the fuck are you on about?
There’s no way you are doing a 30 second keepy up.
Shit, I played D1 in college and some guys couldn’t causally 30 seconds.
Is this bait? Maybe it’s because I grew up in the UK and pretty much everyone over their has been playing football since they could walk but most people I knew could do them for at least 30 seconds, the really good players could do them almost indefinitely until they got tired/bored.
Despite what that other guy said about it not being bait I 100% agree it’s bait.
D1 football in the states is filled with people who played at academies their entire life in Europe.
Could you imagine even being competitive with those kids and not being able to do 30 seconds.
And I’ve also played with kids from a great D1 school and they all can juggle like it’s holding a conversation
I don’t think it’s bait. I played soccer (football) competitively in the United States from when I was old enough to play until my early 30s. My juggling skills are ass despite having been one of the primary ball handlers. I’m lucky to string together more than 10 in a row. I was about to jump on the person saying “it’s… way less difficult than it looks like” until I saw the other responses and realized I’m in the minority and/or had a different experience.
Anywhere in Europe you’d get laughed at if you couldn’t do at least 50 keep ups. 10 year olds would easily do 30 seconds. No wonder the US was dogshit for so long if that was the standard
That guy is just wrong lmao
Go look up D1 school rosters. They have kids from academies from all around the world.
Half of them are not even American these days
I’ve been doing 30 seconds of keepy up since childhood and I was never particularly good at football. It’s really not that hard
My own personal record is 2428 (yea, it took about 30-40 minutes, I was 18 and it was boring as fuck) and I was a terrible player…
I would be shocked, absolutely shocked, to meet someone in D1 soccer that cannot do 30 seconds of juggling.
Take it all the way down to competitive D3 club programs typically have people who were pretty dedicated to the sport.
Once you get to 15 seconds of juggling the step to longer time frames isn’t that bad. After a point it becomes boring
Some pros can’t even do it. There’s a video of Messi basically juggling the ball perfectly with total control and his teammates only managing for a few seconds.
Stop making shit up. There’s no professional footballer out there who can’t juggle the ball for 30 seconds, much less a teammate of Messi.
You’re going to have to post that link cause I refuse to believe that any pro soccer player can only juggle for a few seconds.
In fact I refuse to believe there is a single pro soccer player who couldn’t do a simple juggle for at least 30 seconds. Every player on my team could and this was high school.
Professional football players absolutely can do 30 seconds of this what are you on about lmao
Yeah sure but also some random YouTuber could do it if he tried hard enough. It’s not to say that the pros are bad but it’s just a random skill. Some NBA players can’t spin a ball on their finger
[deleted]
I think it’s more racist to think Africans has a negative connotation lmao
I think he means players from African nations (Kuminga), not just those from European ones (Wemby).
As in, football is an international game, so the US is the odd one out.
Even Canadian Steve Nash had some skills.
What’s racist about calling someone from Africa African?
That feels like a reach. They wrote European than African what is the difference?
Your comment might say more about you than that poster lol
Why is it calling the African players African, racist, but calling the European players European, not racist?
I think you are self reporting my guy
What ever you need to tell yourself.
Lol what? So people from Africa aren’t called Africans? What kind of gaslight is this?
This is Michael Scott asking Oscar if there’s something other than “Mexican” he would like to be called.
they started with Europe cause the player in the video is European, but mentioned Africans also do it hence the use of the word even
Projecting.
Duh…
The “ACKSHUALLY” crowd in the comments are some of the most insufferable dorks on planet earth.
It’s just a fun video of Wemby juggling a basketball. You don’t have to analyse it while trying to convince everyone else how unimpressive it is. Good lord.
Zidane scribbling down something furiously
cross and inshallah will peak once again
God his legs are thin
He looks fr like Slenderman here
FYI, they are called keepy ups for us that call it football
In Sweden it’s called jonglera or trixa(juggling or trixing), so using juggling is 100% fine. Pretty sure everyone has their own name for it in their language, and not everyone adheres to UK standards.
Joxa med trasan
Hatta*
Makes it sound so childish lol I’m not saying “juggling” is much better, but just thinking of telling someone “I’m going out to play keepy ups” is hilarious to me
Edit - I’m also sure me saying “I’m going out to juggle my soccer ball” sounds just as ridiculous to you lol language is a funny thing
I mean no one would say ‘play keepy ups’ lol
It’s not really a game, you sorta just do them while you’re waiting for your mates or whatever
Right that’s kind of my point. I might be sitting (sat) at home, and decide I want to go out in the yard (garden) to kick my ball. If my roommate (flat mate? lol) asked what I’m doing, that’s what I would say.
I’m just doing some keepy ups mate
Same here we called juggling, keepy up is for kids probably
It is childish, it’s something kids do.
Also the reverse of the language thing is probably how technical and business like a lot of US terms sound, like calling food ‘concessions’ and teams ‘franchises’.
I dare you to say that to Wemby’s face
I’ll provide the ladder
As others have said there are many names for it. Nothing is wrong with calling it juggling
That’s gotta only be in the UK, I refuse to believe other European countries call it “keepy ups” in their native tongues.
“hochhalten” in german slang which translates to “keep (it) up”.
Hooghouden in Dutch, same
In Spain it’s “toques” which directly translates to “touches”
In french the translation into English would be juggling as well
Kick ups
That was my first thought. The English have silly rhymy names for everything. They’ll be like “in the UK we call the dishwashers a Soapy Sudsy Wudsy.”
It’s juggling in the states
Not everyone who calls it football is british
French person likes soccer, shocker
Out of the European guys, it’s only Jokic that I have no memory of doing that.
Giannis, Luka, Wemby, etc. they do that quite often.
Here you go
Makes sense. It would be weird if he didn’t do that. I just never watched that before.
Jokic only has one interest in life… Horses and basketball is just to fund that hobby
Now I really want to see if they are up big to have a play designed for him to head the ball in from distance.
Even if it doesn’t work it wuld be hilarious.
I mean yeah, he has like 4 foot legs. What is he going to do? Kick it too far to reach?
What he does is not something uncommon at all for an european. But this dude is so tall that’s crazy how smooth he is. When you play football in europe you know that tall dudes are usually the less skilled with that sort of juggling.
Then he casually hits the 3 from long distance.
Only to go 0/5 in the actual game. :( xD
It missed short, that was a different shot that went in.
Steve Nash somewhere just absolutely torqued
Basketball is his career. Footy is his passion
Seems to me like he likes basketball at least as much as football
The man is passionate. So much that he needs to learn how to control his emotions sometimes.
Imagine him as a football goalkeeper lol. Full coverage
Wembadona
Ok
Probably could’ve been the greatest goalkeeper of all time tbh.
But instead he’ll likely be one of the best basketball players of all time and that’s not a bad trade off.
His kick ups have to go so high to reach his head lol
You should see luka and jokic.
tbh, using your weak foot is not so easy.
I thought he was going to be juggling 3 basketballs with his hands
Robot legs
Yeah they look a strong breeze away from breaking clean off😭
Americans surprised because almost all other humans have some kind of basic skill in most popular sport in world (futebol, soccer é a cabeça da minha xibata) always amaze me.
American: impressed by something
Other people: how stupid are you?!?!
Just let people be impressed.
I was hoping it would be the other type of juggling which might look normal for him
This is actually pretty easy. Most middle school or at least high school soccer players do this for 5-10 minutes to warm of up before practice.
That’s an exaggeration. 10 minutes is a long time to focus and not have one bad touch. One minute is trivial, though.
It ain’t easy my guy lol
It’s easy if you learn from a young age, ngl. But OP’s comment might be misunderstood as 5-10 mins straight without dropping it, which is elite category lol
Yes, sorry. I did not mean to say without dropping. Just that most warm ups include 5-10 minutes of this. In those 5-10 minutes they’ll have one or two good ones of 40-50+, and a whole bunch of 10-20 consecutive then mess up and start over
They didn’t say 5-10 minutes straight without dropping. They said they’d juggled for 5-10 minutes.
I’m aware. I was clarifying for those that didn’t understand.
It’s relative. This is super easy for me, but I’ve been playing soccer since I was 3.
Yes it is. I don’t even play soccer and I can do this. You just need to go outside and play more than 2 times a year.
If you grow up playing football (like we do in the UK) it’s pretty easy to keep it going as long as Wemby is here.
it’s the equivalent of being able to casually dribble a basketball through your legs or behind your back, which is to say anyone who played casually for any length of time can do it to some level.
Yes, good comp.
Maybe not for you, did you ever play soccer? Most middle school and high school players can juggle 40-50 times in a row like that.
Grew up playing futbol.
Sorry you suck at it.
What is futbol?
Okay, and when did you stop?
It is quite literally one of the easiest things to do/learn lol. Perhaps you could argue it’s a bit more difficult when you’re as tall as wemby is, but it ain’t all that.
Ive played soccer since i was 10 and there was really like a few people that could go above 20. But im in america so skill level is way worse
That is crazy impressive.
Basketballs are hard AF, so kicking one casually tends to hurt the feet of us mere mortals
It’s not that bad at all. Basketballs are not way harder than soccer balls
Soft
Lmao this is impressive for multiple reasons but that’s not one of them
I don’t know who these other guys are but doing this with a soccer ball is way easier and softer than with a basketball. Imagine doing a full header with a basketball. That shit would fucking sting. ~15 Oz vs ~21 Oz. Almost 50% heavier.
Thank you!!
I honestly don’t know what these other people are talking about???
A basketball is rock solid compared to a soccer ball. That’s why it bounces so well.
Yeah it’s meant to bounce. Like floor dribbling with a soccer ball sucks.
That’s dope!
Knicks in 5 though.
This is pretty dope
Honestly impressive. Clearly not profesional skills but really fair, and especially good for someone his size.
This counts as dribbling, right?
I would not do that if I were him. Basketballs are heavier and harder than soccer balls. He risks injuring his legs
Unless doing this every time actually strengthens his ankle?
yikes yall stay in reddit if yall are this soft real world is gonna fuck yu up
Heavier yes, harder no.
Brother he plays in the NBA. They play at a speed that most athletes can’t even comprehend. He will be fine.
I feel like he gonna bruise a toe this way
He’s pretty good ngl, but having big ass feet definitely helps because you have more of the sweet spot area where you bounce the ball off of to do it well
Oh wow i’ve never seen anyone do that! WEMBY IS DIFFERENT
I thought the title meant actual juggling I was going to be more impressed.
That’s how you get balls with warts
