Ben Simmons hits a what
Dw it’s preseason, you should be used to the pattern
It’s also a shot he regularly took. Just outside the paint was a range he’d shoot from
He’d usually do a push shot with his right hand from outside the paint. It’s so obvious he has way more touch with his right and should’ve just switched fully to right handed shooting.
His dad fucked him by training him to shoot lefty as a kid.
*shooting with the incorrect hand, of course.
On a jump shot? No. Regularly? No.
Ok dude, I’m sure you watched more Ben Simmons sixers games than me.
Just not used to him wearing a shirt when he hits a jump shot
When the season starts, that shit just fade away
We using dw for don’t worry now?
Dougie
Hesi pull-up jimbo
When was the last time bruh hit a three pointer, ya know like when it actually counts
One interesting stat - Zion Williamson, in his first NBA game, hit more 3 pointers than Ben Simmons had at that point in his career.
5 years later, those 4 debut three pointers are only 2 shy of Simmons career numbers.
Prediction: Simmons makes more 3P this season the Embid.
A child
Hey Lebron…
Say the line, Bart!
Ben Simmons is here, we’re all good.
I would’ve preferred that to be the story line. I dont like Lebron
This fuckery can’t go on much longer
Dont watch him play that will help , also ignore comments about him
[removed]
We’re good here Lebron.
Socialite is here.
No longer the young socialite. He just the socialite now
what an insane thing to say when LeBron was still playing at peak level
Lebron’s gonna be 42 soon. He’s making the same salary as Ben Simmons. Sixers fans, you know what you must do before February 2027.
I mean to be fair… Na I can’t even think of anything..
Ben “The Real King…A Sacramento King” Simmons
LMAOOO
Time to have a little talk…
r/brandnewsentence
I lol’d
And then I serious’d
I had a sensible chuckle
Had to read it three times just to make sure my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me.
I almost spit out my drink
League fucked. Its our time
He finished ramping up! We are ducked
He’s focused and has been practicing his shot all summer.
All he needed was some time off and his fishing org winning a title to get his confidence back
He’s going for that back-to-back in two different sports. Without doing any research, surely he will be the first to accomplish such a feat.
his what now?
He owns a pro fishing team and they won some title I think earlier this year. I think he also is an angler on the team too.
Not like this
I believe.
Light the beam!
Vince Carter it’sover.gif
Wait until you see what the pels are cooking
I bet it’s high in calories.
Plus, the Grizzlies are fine in the West
I was so glad to see Murphy’s dunk on Miami the other day. I just want to see him get some success.
Still shooting with the wrong hand unfortunately.
Just wait until some reporter asks Doug Christie if Ben Simmons is a championship point guard.
This Simmons guy looks pretty good on the floor, could be a ROTY contender.
I fully support a Kangs takeover
So he has been practicing. Like actually practicing instead of offseason videos.
Or maybe he figures he doesnt have anything to lose now.
I think both. The pressure is off his back. He is kinda forgotten, playing in one of the most forgettable markets.
with his health history hopefully the pressure is literally off his back
He’s had time off to both heal properly but also just…. Take time for himself. It’s the right environment
I get it’s “cool” to meme on Ben for easy upvotes but I feel like alot of people forget/never knew how good he genuinely was.
When he said that there’s no pressure this year, he’s absolutely right. We are expected to be the worst team in the league per Vegas and NBA rankings, nowhere to go but up and if we end up 30th well we all kind of expected it anyway. With no one really watching us except for some Darius Acuff highlights, it really is the perfect situation for him to make his return.
IIRC he gets a bunch of retirement benefits just by appearing this year at all. I’m sure part of him wants to compete but that’s the real reason to bother to come back
Bro he’s always made shots like this one though lmao people acting like he’s completely useless. He was always a good fucking basketball player but his confidence went into the shitter. Not only that, he REFUSED with a fucking passion to ever go outside of his comfort zone. Shoot a 3? Dear God we can’t be doing that!!
Which sucks because Simmons could have been soooo much more than this
Hey! You’re right, but hey!
I’ll never forget him missing that wide open layup in the playoffs years ago
He won’t forget it either
Yeah as a sixers fan I can say this shot is a shot he used to take. When it’s really close and unnecessarily difficult (spinning twirling, back stepping) he will shoot.
Because then you can’t really blame him if he misses
Yeah unironically probably
“Used to take” as in that one preseason/summer league run.
Nah the super unnecessary difficulty short range shots was his jam.
It felt like he was moving through mud but it looked decent and it went in, so fair play Ben
He’s done this before, trust me. Hell he even took some threes one year.
But then he airballed some, became even more passive then the Trey young incident happened and he was totally messed up mentally.
I still propose the idea that he should’ve changed to shooting right handed. He does everything else right handed except for shooting a basketball cuz his dad trained him that way as a kid for some reason.
It’s obvious he’s using his off hand and he’ll never get to average shooting doing that
Nah it’s bc it’s preseason. He’ll go back to his usual self once the season actually starts.
He won a (fishing) championship. He’s ready to bring that culture to Sacramento.
lmao, I’ll believe it if he starts hitting them at least semi-consistently
a preseason jumper is not enough for me to believe it
His jumper still looks broke as fk
The fact that you people just think nba players aren’t practicing is wild.
Is there anything lower stakes than preseason Kings basketball?
(yes, late-season Kings basketball)
It always seemed more mental to me. He just wouldn’t shoot before.
He’s always taken this shot and the little shitty turnaround fadeaways. It was how he avoids chances of contact and shooting free throws. For me it indicates a lack of development (expected) but the fact that he’s on the court and playing in a low stakes situation seems like it will do him well and perhaps make him a serviceable player.
We’re not doing this
from a sixers flair is frying me
It seems like it would be extra painful for you guys if he made a big comeback this year
I hope he plays well again and gets to a better place. I’ll never let go of that passed up dunk on Trae Young because he was afraid to get fouled, but I also still hope that he can get right again and be good. Before those playoffs he was fun to watch despite the shooting. If he was a confident FT shooter I still think he could’ve always overcome the lack of 3 pointer.
I wanna see the Kings over the Sixers in the Finals, Ben as FMVP
What’d we ever do to you man
Still seems like he doesn’t know whether he is a left or right handed shooter.
Yup, that hesitation is still there after all these years. That little indecisiveness brought me back to 2017 all over again.
Nothin’ will be more painful than fumbling the Hawks series in 2021, & arguably that series was way more than just one person’s fault
Tbh I would be really happy for him if he’s able to have a good comeback this year.
We’re doing this!
seriously lol
League fucked
uyyyy pilipens
Putankinamall
baaaaaayaaang magiliw , ready sing!
uyyy nagtagalog!
Pack the peenoise and mga dds haha
lebron no bag pre
As a ben simmons truther this gives me hope. I’ve been dreaming for an andrew wiggins type redemption arc, hope he gets it and I’ll die in peace
I thought this was going to be a sarcastic post
It’s almost worse that it isn’t. Just a guy hitting a mid range shot
The incredulous commentator really makes it though lmao!
He also looks like he’s moving through molasses
I was shocked by the highlight. I thought it would be from 3 range like Derrick Rose but its just a just outside the paint shot with the most mild defense
I opened it feeling bad and expecting an awful brick
So I see Off Season Ben has extended his output to the preseason now…
Could it extend even further?
Only time will tell 😂😂
By the time he’s ready to retire he’ll hit one 3-pointer per quarter in a meaningless regular season game
lol no
His shot breaks my brain still. He’s shooting with his left here, but everything about his footwork and form is right handed, including with how he holds the ball. On a fucking fadeaway.
Because he is freaking right handed and only shoots left handed because he tried to show his dad and uncle he could do it when he was 12 and because he was a future 6’ 10” elite NBA athlete it all worked fine in high school even though he applied his own nerf on his ability.
Wasn’t that story proven to be made up? But all the other points exactly
I don’t think it is debunked. He is right handed, there are many quotes from both him and his Dad on this subject. And from NBA insiders who worked and played with him. I made up that it was at age 12 that he switched. But it was sometime when he was young and the age doesn’t matter. Ben is too hurt/damaged now for it to make much difference. But there was a time when he could do everything on the court (including finishing layups, dunks, and hook shots that he primarily did with his right hand) except shoot jumpers with his left hand.
His footwork here is left-handed IMO (guys like LeBron or KD would match this footwork when driving left and stepping back for a short fadeaway) but it is pretty clear he’s a natural right-handed player that trained himself against his natural tendencies for no reason.
His arm position though lol
https://imgur.com/SPfORIJ
you dont know which way he’s shooting
Yeah 100% agree on the arm position and upper body form, just saying that the footwork itself isn’t right-handed. It’s like he drilled left-handed shooting footwork but his upper body still wanting to shoot right-handed.
Ya it’s still janky as hell even tho he made it
He jus like me fr lmao
Ben Simmons ROTY season incoming
its amazing what fishing can do for your confidence.
Net looks as big as the ocean to him
Ai is getting to real these days
Well done
Only Took 9 years and like 200 million
$203,356,689
Best investment
Money well spent
Kings only gave him a non-guaranteed contract this year. Thank you Sixers/Nets/Clippers for being a good minor league farm system for us!
It’s ugly, but it is a jumper. That’s progress.
Trust the progress
It still looks weird to me. Like he pauses the movement on his elbow for a bit.
the idiot is shooting with his wrong hang. He has the base of a righty shooting with his left
he’s beginning to believe…
Hasn’t he always had this specific shot? I’m pretty sure even had it back in college. He just never extended past this range
He shot 3’s in college. Then he shot midrange his first year. Then he started inching further and further in. Then he stopped shooting outside of 10 feet.
He was 1⁄3 on threes in college
It’s incredible he’s even hitting the basket shooting like that
We’re at that stage of the preseason… Ben Simmons been practicing 3s, Ben Simmons hits a jumper, Ben Simmons hits a 3 in open runs…
I’ve seen this story before, every year.
Heh, same as Zion, let’s just hope they will be consistent this time around…
Zion has 2-3x more 3PA in less games. 100 plus 3pa in 280 plus games.
Can I also say it’s just ridiculous that Ben was drafted 10 yrs ago and has only played 380 games.
You can retire LeBron. We’re good.
On a veterans minimum he might be a great trade piece if he’s even close to Sixers level. People like to forget how good he was at one point.
Yeah peak Ben Simmons, able to consistently do what is shown in this video, would have been NBA1 year in year out.
He was the best poa defender at one point. I’m sure he won’t get back to that but he could be useful. Put 40 being primarily guarded by prime gobert.
Ya the problem is he won’t be lol and it’s preseason for a reason
Exactly. He will stop doing this entirely a few games into the season and then get mystery injured
No one forgets, it just doesn’t matter
If he would be close to his Sixers days he could be best contract in the league on vet min.
His issues have never been about talent or physical limitations. Simmons has confidence issues, and if he can iron them out, he could be a decent baller. His defense was always legit, he’s a good passer, and he can handle the rock.
I mean his back is also destroyed. That doesn’t help either
Yeah, very true. By physical limitations, I was talking about his size and athleticism, not injury history, but you raise a valid point. Not like back problems get better with age for the average person.
Potentially, yeah. As a Sixers fan I hope he does well. Was pretty pissed how he did us but it’s whatever now. I liked him when he was in his prime here. Dude was a beast. Athletic freak, elite defender and passer. Paired pretty well with Joel IMO if he could’ve just developed a damn jumper and some confidence. Shooting lefty was such a dumb decision.
Paired well with Joel? He paired awfully with Joel.
Notice the “if” after the statement.
Before he tried going vegan and messed himself up?
Hey I’ve seen this one
how is this possible
I know people love trashing on him but I am actually really excited to see Ben Simmons play basketball again I hope he makes it back into the league and not as a joke
People forget that he shared a locker room with Embid and Butler. That’s a big mental challenge.
Because it’s still the preseason. Wake me up when he does this in December
Wow Ben Simmons! Now That’s a historical moment!
If this had happened like 7 years ago the media would’ve exploded.
Hot take but Ben Simmons is the most over hated guy in the NBA.
He has skills and he’s been clearly dealing with some mental health issues along with a legitimate back problem that has bothered him for a while.
I genuinely don’t have a problem with him and would love to have him on the warriors. His best years are behind him but if he can return to being an excellent defender and playmaker who shoots just often enough to keep a defense honest, he might just get another good contract.
Also, he was uber-thrown under a bus by a coach that should have never been allowed back on any team past that incident. He was one of the best two-way guards in the league, made ONE mistake that gets lied about constantly (he thought Galo was behind him, not Trae Young), and had the entire blame put on him, ON LIVE TV, BY HIS OWN COACH.
I really do feel bad for him. I hope he makes an amazing comeback.
Lol thats a bit revionist. He was a total liabilty on offense (hack-a-Ben) and definitely the main reason we lost that series. I was a big fan for many years and I’m sorry for his injuries but this guy was arrogant, lazy and his mentality did not fit to his frame. Wasted everybodys time.
How DARE you question my VERY EDUCATED point of view?
I’ll have you know that I watched 0 76ers games from 1901 until today and I watched a total of 1 Ben Simmons interview about that incident
That makes me very qualified
And to further your embarrassment, I just read some stats online
So get you act together, child
I feel like a lot of player reputations get caught up in a narrative and once it takes hold,it gets to a point where they could become the exact opposite and the narrative still doesn’t shift
Nah James Harden is far more overhated
I don’t think anyone who knows ball hates Harden.
At least not his skills.
And his foul baiting days are long past him.
Pretty sure people hate brandin podziempski more than Ben Simmons. Edit: thought the comment said most hated, not most over hated
*People to Pods* - “I don’t think about you at all”
The herd of NBA fans and media is unlike any other sport when it comes to creating a narrative around a player. I mean in one playoff series we basically gaslit the Grizzlies into not bringing back Dillon Brooks.
Yo wasn’t that fucking crazy, now he average 20/5/5 on the suns
You don’t think it’s more likely that Dillon Brooks was in fact being a distraction and they were tired of his shit? Charlotte weathered the storm of Miles Bridges beating his girlfriend. If the Grizzlies felt that Brooks’ contributions outweighed his knucklehead-ery, I am positive they would have kept him.
Simmons created the narrative, not fans. The one thing that’s great about America is that we have a short memory and are entirely too apologetic for celebrities. Simmons deserves all the hate he received. Paid massive amount of money to be an absolute coward.
People act like hes been sucking intentionally. He’s still in his physical prime and could have made 300 million dollars if he retained his all star form. Obviously he wants to be a good player, But it’s not that simple.
I hate him cause he is Australian
Bro watched 10 years of Patty Mills through gritted teeth
What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succelent Ben Simmons meal?
I see you know your basketball well.
Gentlemen, this is CBA manifest
I just hate people named Ben.
I hate young socialites
Ben Simmons hits one shot in a preseason game
and this guy above forgets the last 4 years of wasted money and talent lol
but there you go Ben you go!!!
Typical jealous yank
what do you mean? You’re an aussie and you’re ok with him bailing out of every boomers game since forever? Even his team-mate at the time, Matisse put on the green and gold.
The dude would rather post instagram pics of his new ferrari than represent at the olympics. the hate down-under is warrented.
Mb thought he was saying he hated all aussies not that he was one, reading ain’t comprehensionning today
Who hated Luc Longley?
His best years are behind him but if he can return to being an excellent defender and playmaker who shoots just often enough to keep a defense honest
So his best years are behind him, but you hope he basically transitions to what he was at his peak except he trades driving ability with a decent jump shot?
I know right what is that guy talking about
Nitpicking a bit there, obviously I don’t expect him to return to what he was at his peak lol
But yes, I hope he can return to be a good defender and playmaker, and if he can make these middies at a rate that they don’t leave him wide open then that’s a plus. Happy?
I personally think that sixers team with Embid and Butler was toxic af and they kind of broke him mentally along with his back problems.
It was kinda a Butler staple, the locker rooms in Chicago and Minnesota also seemed toxic with him in charge.
It was, but they all share blame in that situation, including Simmons (and Brett Brown) - he’s not a victim of that time.
His sister accusing his step brother (ben’s agent, they were super close) of sexual abuse really ought to have done a number on the mind and emotions too. IIRC, the court didnt find her credible .
Textbook case of the YIPS. Idk y people don’t think it’s serious
He impressed me with his center minutes in the 2024-25 playoffs tbh
Hot take you just saying that because this post is relevant
Dude was a damn good player until he got the yips.
He dogged his national team over and over. Fuck him.
My problem is he’s a 6’ 10” dude with super elite athleticism, given $100s of millions of dollars to play a game, and doesn’t bother to put the work in to make himself better. His issues were pretty minor. He just didn’t care. Get the fuck out of here with that.
He doesnt have elite athleticism anymore, anyone who watched him play in brooklyn/LA knows that
He should still be a really good defender? (I did not watch him in brooklyn/LA)
Listen to any interview he has done since the Trae Young incident. He has assigned blame in every single one and not shown any accountability. Easy to hate people like that.
As a sixers fan and once a huge Simmons fan, I assure you that he is not over hated nor do you want him on your team.
It all comes from somewhere. Even at LSU, Ben was rumoured to have a horrible work ethic and it continued into the NBA. Also the fallout with the Sixers where he refused to cooperate with the team and their medical staff. Yeah, the hate for Ben is valid.
Yeah it’s crazy to act like he was trying at all to add a jumper to his game pre-yips. Or that his behavior after trae young took his soul was okay at all. Fuck Ben
MFs see Ben Simmons score 7 points in a preseason match and start saying shit like “Ben Simmons is the most overhated guy in the NBA”
This was my position and has been for a long time.
Philly fans didn’t help, but I genuinely think Doc Rivers and Embiid created a toxic environment and Ben absolutely wasn’t mature enough to deal with it.
It’s more than just Simmons not being mature enough to deal with the toxic environment - he also contributed to it. The whole thing is a mess and there’s no one that was innocent in it (including Ben).
That’s fair.
Doc really did throw him under that bus though, when he should have set an example.
You’d feel differently if he fucked up your team.
Simmons has his blame to bear, but he’s not the only one. Embiid injuries, Doc Rivers, paying Tobias Harris $180m, paying PG a max deal etc.
You want a boogeyman to blame all your issues on but it’s not that simple.
Harris shot 6⁄24 that game, embiid had 8 turnovers. It wasn’t all Ben Simmons fault
Blaming Embiid for injuries is far different than blaming Ben for refusing to attempt shots in game. Sixers fans didn’t hate Ben because he was missing. We hated him because he’s not taking shots.
Ben taking shots is like when you leave your cheating partner and they don’t cheat on their next partner. Like yeah, they’re giving the effort now, maybe cause they learned their lesson and cared a lot, maybe cause they never cared about you. Either way, they grew as a person at your expense. In Ben’s case, the expense was millions of dollars a year.
I’ve watched the clip so many times I honestly do not think it was that bad
Doc rivers calling him out postgame was genuinely a worse move for the 6ers than that play
That one clip is a fraction of the story.
If by that you mean there were other people deserving far more blame for how that season ended, then yeah for sure.
The one where he was scared to dunk on lottle trae? Career defining moment.
This is nonsense revisionist history bullshit.
He literally said “yall are being mean to me I quit”. He has not taken any accountability for not trying or trying to fix his flaws and has thrown others under the bus instead.
Hate is deserved. He can grow up and take accountability and have a comeback story but that hasn’t been the case so far
I don’t think most really hate him? Personally I just really dislike players who wasted their potential, guys like Bynum, Wiggins, Beasley and Simmons seem to not care much about improving their game nor like the game of basketball much. I understand Bynum and Wiggins both did pretty well but they could definitely do more. Simmons was supposed to be the next Magic and even LeBron once he developed his jump shot, he ended up bring a poor man Andre Miller and thats a disrespect to Andre Miller.
Bynum’s knees broke down.
That’s not not trying
what is with the glazing of rich spoiled athletes that don’t even know you exist?
He can literally do all Draymond do without the anger management issues.
Trust me you would hate him if he was on your team. He does just enough to impress and get paid before he hangs it up and stops caring.
I disagree with this take. There are so many vets that are more hardworking yet more criticised. Even james harden obviously puts in work and has been an iron man for the most part of his career. Id argue that westbrook was the most overhated and probably sga now. Id even say that wemby is overhated but I have to fulfill my hater duties as an okc rival
Fuck the image rehab bullshit. Hate SImmons all day. Most overpaid apathetic motherfucker in a while.
His shooting looks as uncomfortable as it did when I used to watch him regularly.
He’s gonna ball this year and go back to being trash Ben Simmons after he gets his next big contract BET
League will never give him another big contract. He’s 29 been out the league 2 years, that ship has sailed.
He is 30
Well that’s… worse
Fuck I feel old.
True. He’s 30, this fuckery won’t go on much longer, thank god
The Deshaun Watson dance. (without the other things)
This clip is how you know the season has truly begun.
TIL ben simmons is in sacramento
That’s all I need to see, he’s the next MJ.
the power of zero stakes basketball
I love how the announcers always treat him like a Make-A-Wish kid every time he attempts a shot outside of 3 feet from the basket lol
My dawg Mark Jones already drinking the cool-aid. Oh no.
League on notice
Ben the fuck Simmons hit a WHAT
Has Ben finally gotten over his fear of shooting?
It looks ok but this is not him improving greatly. Fadeaways are the only jumper he takes. If he’s not setting his feet and shooting multiple times a game nothing has changed.
This. He has done this before, especially in the pre season.
I’m actually not convinced he’s ever done a step back of the dribble shot
I’m happy for the guy. I want him to succeed so bad. He was a genuine DPOY candidate and elite playmaker a few years ago. He was 24 when the Trae Young incident happened. 24. Imagine having the entire sports media landscape mock you and shit all over you at 24? Especially after having it relatively easy in his career to that point. I don’t blame him for it impacting his mental.
What happened with trae young? Im ootl
Sorry
https://youtu.be/-EHA4UhYuQY
Trae put lockdown defense on him at the basket to knock the sixers out of the playoffs.
He passed up a wide open layup in a playoff game when Trae Young was behind him.
He was having a pretty rough series to that point, and it was the tipping point of him becoming a laughing stock imo. There had been a lot of talk leading up to that series about his lack of aggressiveness to score and his progression as a shooter.
well i’ll be damned 😂
This was in his game pre-injury. Brings me joy seeing Simmons highlights in 2026.
This was never part of his game stop lying.
Throughout his regular-season NBA career, Ben Simmons has taken exactly 116 official jump shots out of his 3,720 total field goal attempts.
You’ve been sad for a while they eh?
My mental health hasn’t relied on Ben Simmons for a long time.
Prime Ben Simmons, love that guy.
There’s a world out there where he isnt afraid to take free throws even on bad efficiency and he’s still a menace to drive in
Good for him, cool to see him back
He did not… Oh he did… Wtf haha
Let’s fucking go!
You mean SFC Champion fisherman Ben Simmons
League might be screwed
Ben’s preseason highlights i have been here and seen at least 10x, i STILL hold out hope
