50 Years of NBA WAR — Day 12: Philadelphia 76ers Top 50
Continuing the 21-day series of ranking the Top 50 players by WAR for every franchise that has played in all 50 seasons covered by my dataset (1976-77 through 2025-26), coming in at #12 are the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Sixers have accumulated 1,451.2 total WAR over the last 50 seasons, with 1,340.8 in the regular season and 110.4 in the playoffs.
Philadelphia won its only NBA championship within this dataset’s 50-season window in 1983, led by Moses Malone and Julius Erving. The franchise’s earlier championships in 1955 (as the Syracuse Nationals) and 1967 fall outside the cutoff, as do Wilt Chamberlain’s years in Philadelphia.
For the full explanation of the methodology and Estimated RAPTOR/LAKER, see Day 1: San Antonio Spurs.
For a quick refresher: these rankings use total WAR = regular-season WAR + playoff WAR, and only WAR accumulated with that franchise counts. Since WAR is cumulative, longevity and playing time are naturally part of the metric. This is intended to measure total value accumulated for a franchise, rather than peak ability.
