\(22M is a little more than i thought he’d get. i thought he’d get \)17M-20M. Looks like dubs are really optimistic about his potential

22 million seems like an overpay but I think this is just the new going rate for this caliber of player (non all star, decent role player). I’m not mad about it, happy for Podz to lock in guaranteed money. He doesn’t seem to have a negative attitude and isn’t shy to make hustle plays on court.

Pretty perfect. He’s the most available player, is one of like 3 guys who can dribble and move at the same time while having the ability to pass or shoot.

He reads plays very well and is usually in the right spot. We’ll see how he fits with the tinkered offense but he figured out Kerr’s normal one faster than most.

Honestly it’s a solid ass deal. He’s not special at anything but he does everything well. He’s getting paid like Josh Hart who I comp him as. Right now it might be a few mill higher than I’d like but over 5 years with stead cap increases it will even out to where he should be.

Edit: spelling

It might be an overpay, but it might as easily be an underpay. He’s a starting quality player albiet flawed, but 22 mil AAV is not crazy expensive and he has a chance to outperform it.

He’s a perfectly fine role player, stephews just decided he was the scapegoat because that’s what they do every season

He’s a 20m player and overhated. Needs to work on his offense and he will be a steal. Does good glue stuff

It’s a solid deal. He was a combo guard in college and we tried to make him a point guard which didn’t work out. Once he started to play more like a combo guard he got alot better cause he stopped overdribbling and overpassing and his scoring improved. His defense has improved as well so he’s solid there (always had the effort and IQ and not he’s able to stay in front a little better and his hands have gotten better).

Also, he learned to stop talking so much in interviews which is what got him on the bad side cause he shot too high on some of his comments, lol.

Definitely an overpay by $22m is a minor dent for an okay role player. Could do a lot worse.

Like Podz as a Warrior but I don’t think he’s worth 22M per year.

I really like Podz.

I just like $22 million more.

Its basically what Ayo got and I think of them as similar level players, seems about right

Overpay. I’m not mad at him but I don’t get the preferential treatment. Based on what he has shown in game, we’ve seen better players get treated like children

Seems decent, he’s a starting caliber player getting starter money (22 million per is not crazy) not a Warriors fan but I think he’s getting a decent value for both sides

The whiners won’t like it, but he’s a solid player and still has room to grow. He’s been forced into some situations where he has to be the primary ball handler and he’s not good at that, but he’s done pretty well when he can actually play like a normal SG.

I like his hair.

Nevermind…..I do not like his hair.

Love him, lots of ceiling left in his game. Warriors fans that despise him don’t know ball at fucking all. Bandwagon casual mouthbreathers.

Not a warriors fan

Feels like too much money

Fleeced the org but he’s our most promising rookie contract player. Easily the most money he’ll ever make in this league.

Well if we go on from what i’ve read about Podz from Warrior fans he’s the worst player in NBA history and is the main reason why the Warriors were losing games in the past two seasons.

$20 is what I expected. I think it’s great for everyone. He’s well overplayed his draft position and has continually improved

If Ayo Dosunmu, a 2-way plug-and-play guy with the size to defend 3 positions, is considered an overpay…then I don’t know what to call this.

I was a podz hater for a while and I get where the “basketball terrorist” memes come from but at the end of the day he’s a young player who has shown he can be consistent and he will play a lot. Am I “glad” we just signed 5 more years of him not really… but I am happy for him, and I don’t think it’s the worst thing we could do considering we are on JB and KP contracts. AND Draymond contract. Wouldn’t says podz is great value but I think the deal is slightly above average value.

It’s a great team friendly deal for what he provides

I guess we’ll keep watching him drive into brick walls?

This is a super solid deal. He is a great role player, who still has room to improve. Any divisiveness from the fanbase is mostly due to loudmouth idiots who only look at PPG.

There is also an oddly large Kuminga contingent that are anti-Podz since he immediately eclipsed Kuminga in playing time, but tbh he was also much more impactful and makes endless winning plays that Kuminga can’t process fast enough.

Less than I thought he’d get. Good deal

I love Pods and am fine with this contract I wish it was less so there’s more flexibility. But he’s a great player in Kerr’s system and Kerr keeps playing him. I am a fat stoner and Kerr is a great coach in this system with Steph and Dray. I trust Kerr

It’s not incredible value but it’s also not terrible. He’s not a bad player but he’s often asked to do more than his ideal role should be. It’s also a very traceable contract if it comes to that.

If he gets off to a hot start it could open up trades for us thats forsure

There are some haters but since the extension kicks in next year we’re basically paying him 2m over the mile for 5 years which is completely fine imo

Not a warriors fan but thats a major oof. Hes way overrated

Warriors have one of the dumbest fan bases in sports. Great deal for a great role player. Put him on an actual contender and he’s a plus player. Kyle Lowry type player with a Kyle Kuzma fan base.

It’s 11% of the cap when it kicks in and not much higher than his cap hold if it went to free agency which could have been worse. Anyone freaking out about it being an overpay doesn’t understand the basic financials of the NBA

Imo it just shows how unserious this team (and fanbase) is.

Stank face and said “WHAT THE FUCK?”

Solid deal. Warriors fanbase can be delusional. Half of them hate Podz because he has stated he “wants to be better than Steph”. And on the court he tries to do too much sometimes.

The white Shohei Ohtani 😤

i’m happy with it. the fans who hate on him frankly do not understand basketball. he’s very durable, a hard worker, great teammate, and above average at everything except attacking the rim. he’ll have a long career.

Looks good to me. Pretty much correct for his tier of player, not being paid for expected future growth or anything like that, and I think he could still take a step or two forward and outperform it if he improves.

Fans are just mad he’s not capable of being Steph when Steph is hurt, and some of his quotes have been dumb.

Over paid and over committed. They’ve always been higher on him than I think is warranted

He’s not a bad player but they treat him like a future all star and not a regular role player

Expected him to take moody type of money…13m-17m.

22m seems bit over-pay. But he is the only young guy who is able to stay healthy and kerr loves him.

If he just improves his 3 point shooting and able to make it consistently, 22m will be a great deal.

He hustles, good team defender, good attitude and hard worker. Those type of players have long careers.

Podz has his moments but he stopped developing and it’s not worth investing in him so it’s kinda dumb.

They have two of the best contracts in the league in him and NAW. Elite FO moves with those two.

Jalen Johnson’s contract is low-key a top 5 non rookie contract in the league. Maybe even the best

Hawks made off like thieves those lucky bastards

NAW is arguable on a better contract. ⁴⁄₆₂ for an MIP is crazy.

Jalen Johnson’s contract is already a steal.

[deleted]

Still not enough for an in-unit washer and dryer though

Trying to trigger dubs fans with “San Fran” huh. Lakers fans smh

Average Reddit comedian. Yall have 5 jokes I swear

You must be poor

In the range of Josh Hart money right now

It’s generally in the same ballpark of other rookie extensions for guys who are good but not stars

Jabari Smith Jr: 5 years, $122m

Christian Braun: 5 years, $125m

Keegan Murray: 5 years, $140m

Shaedon Sharpe: 4 years, $90m

Dyson Daniels: 4 years, $100m

It really is. Very tradable if needed

It is but he’s always received an outsized amount of hate

Yeah but morons see 100m+ and still use 2014 logic

NBA contracts bring out the morons who have not learned what cap % is

I think the real issue is the length and trade kicker. Not many five year contracts being thrown out now. If it was 3 year 65 I don’t think anyone really bats an eye

Close, Tide Podz.

It’s 8am bro

shit atleast the airpods can play music, wtf does “Podz” do… I know Steph going through it right now, I hope he puts his mind at rest by reminding himself that he changed the game and had an all time NBA career. who cares what the warriors are doing in terms of roster decisions

He needs that Nike shoe deal to make the air pods 1

That’s 22 a year for 14 4 dimes and 5 boards on 58 TS. I don’t think this is a crazy over pay.

Cool story bro

!!! this is the perfect way to put it cause looking at his numbers hes a good player

I feel like the Warriors are chasing the dragon with him- they still have all their picks but realistically they’re not going to contend until after they can effectively rebuild and find whatever’s next after Curry.

Spiritual opposite of the guy with garbage stats that murders your team

It’s a combination of things. Warriors fans have unreasonable expectations for the team and their players. Especially for Podz who was the 19th pick in his draft and is easily the most valuable player taken at his draft position (seriously, no one drafted after him has been that much better).

People think Kerr gave him a much longer leash than he did with Kuminga even though Podz does what’s asked of him which is shoot the open shot, make the right pass, defend, and be in the right spot. All things Kuminga would either do for a couple games at the start or the season or not do at all. Podz is a great glue guy and plays within his ability and the system.

Podz has put his foot in his mouth a few times saying dumb stuff like he’d be the white Ohtani if he stuck with baseball and that he wants to be better than Steph. (Like we’ve never seen an NBA player with a stupid level of confidence lol).

I think Dubs fans just need somewhere to place the blame and Podz is kind of an easy target because he always plays and he has just as many bad shooting games as good ones. He’s a serviceable player and it’s weird that fans think he’s the worst player in the league or making our team worse. He’s not.

Because people just wanna talk shit and don’t actually watch the games

Because they hate him and the Warriors. In this league, you’re a star or you’re trash.

He’s our starting SG, has consistently improved, plays a ton, and Kerr loves him. That’s all we need to know. If the cap keeps goin up this deal will even out to being the right dollar amount.

lol because most of our fans know lick about basketball.

My biggest complaint is that he’s bad at PG. I think Kerr knows this doesn’t play him there anymore. It worked for GP2 as well…PG size but better offball

he’s always been a solid player, social media just doesnt like it when he talks. thats all.

Cause he’s probably a bench player and probably wouldn’t have a real market in restricted free agency

He’s completely unplayable in the playoffs

Because he’s like a 7th man on a good team.

because he’s turned into a bit of a meme player which leads to people thinking he’s actually trash

People gotta remember the NTMLE is 15m now, and will probably be up to close to 20m by the time this contract is up. The deal needs to be meaningfully above that to incentivize a player to sign it. So 22m AAV seems about right

The risk I think here is think is the term. This could end up like the Braun contract. It’s not a super high $ amount but 4 guaranteed years is a lot if he doesn’t perform this year

The top 20 contracts in the NBA are all over \(50m. The top 50 are over \)40m. NBA money is crazy these days

He’s a serviceable role player already. He’s not a liability defensively, he shoots 37% on decent volume from 3, rebounds well for a guard, and has decent play-making skills.

Assuming 8% increases on his contract, he’ll start this year around the 18mil mark, which is only a couple mil more than the Full MLE.

That’s not bad for who is now. Then you factor in potential for improvement due to him only being 22 years old

It’s not, pay no attention to the memes, he’s a legit player. Josh Hart makes 20 million and Podz is quite a bit younger than him.

It’s the same percentage of the cap as Max Strus got from the Cavs back in 2023, he seems to me to be an equivalent level player as a 5th starter/6th man on a good team. Maybe a little more upside than Max if he can continue to improve PG skills.

Never a fan of contracts that award potential, especially when his playoff flashes have been abysmal.

But Kerr likes him so that’s all that matters

I mean, at the moment, we just can’t tell. But he does seem like he has a lot more upside than podz

the warriors players and coaches have been gassing yaxel up like crazy. not saying they’re right or wrong, but they have fueled the hype train like crazy. kerr has never spoken nearly this positively and confidently about a rookie this early on. which, hopefully for the warriors, is a good sign.

but as fans, there’s really no reasonable way to compare a year 4 player and a guy who has played 2 preseason games lol

Not yet, but Yaxel is about being neutral guy his rookie year, good versatile wing. They both could be solid for their future 5

He might be, but that’s not relevant to this extension.

Guilty

The Warriors better hope Yaxel is better than Podz if they want to even be competitive this season and beyond.

Podz is a decent player and the extension isn’t terrible but with Steph’s and Draymonds age and Butlers injury they need more than just decent o average players to have a chance of winning a playoff spot.

Aside from Steph how many players on the Warriors opening night lineup would start on a playoff team?  Dray probably and that’s likely it.  This team is utterly bereft of young difference making talent.  They better prey Yaxel becomes the Trey Murphy pick of this draft (or better).

I’m one of them. I’m sure Yaxel will struggle a bit in his first season but I 100% expect Yaxel to be the better player at some point.

I mean compared to the max KAT could get (277 million iirc) it’s almost half

\(126M invested in the S&P 500 in October 1997 with dividends reinvested would be worth \)1.59B today. Even if he had spent half on taxes and his agent, it would still be a cool $795M.

Man discovers inflation

[removed]

I watch 90% of warriors games and still think he’s very mediocre.

The contract is fine, and tradable.

What does he have to prove? He’s played the 33rd most minutes a game last season. He’s one of our 3 highest +/- guys since his rookie year. He’s a very good shooter, a very good decision maker, and is our starting SG. What’s left?

Not a lot at all 22M for a starter/6 is perfect value over the next 5 years.

i’m high on his potential as a shooter. he’s been up and down as a young player, but his shot looks really nice when he shoots with confidence. for at least a big chunk of last season (and maybe the whole season, i saw this stat in jan or feb i think), he lead the entire team (steph included) in late clock 3p%. obviously a bit of statistical noise, he’s not better at shooting than steph lol, but it illustrates his potential when he doesn’t/can’t hesitate.

i’m pretty confident that he’ll be considered a good shooter and generally well-rounded role player during his prime who could help a lot of teams.

Flair checks out

Alright boys, that’s enough beams

It’s a bad contract though. Most teams wouldn’t give this to podz.

Warriors gave podz 2 million less than ayo over 5 years. Ayo dropped 43 in a must win against Denver in the playoffs. Podz career high was 28 in a loss to the Wolves.

They offered him more than Kuminga

Pod is just like kuminga who is just like THT was for the Lakers. These players played next to Steph and LeBron and get all this extra media attention as if they were actually good players doing something on their own instead of playing next to all-time greats. The warriors and Lakers both wanted exorbitant amounts for those players and other franchises knew better not to give them what they demanded. Lakers got Patrick Beverly for THT and the warriors get porzingis. Based on how often you see these names, you’re think they would have gotten 1rounds picks for them

I keep thinking I’ve finally adjusted to what NBA salaries are now, and then I see something like this which leaves me in shock.

It’s a player option on a non-guaranteed year. For it to exercise, the player has to opt into, and the team has to guarantee, the final year of the contract

Basically not a real contract year since both party needs to agree to continue

i think it’s a pretty fair deal in the modern nba tbh.

I too think he is buns

Warriors fan here, id say price is reasonable for podz. My only preference wouldn’t been fewer years just in case of some sort of decline in production, but 22mil/year is about right there days for that level of production

⁵⁄₁₁₀ for podz is a better deal than ⁵⁄₁₂₅ for a guy that shot 30% from 3 in the first year of his 25 mil a year deal sorry to tell ya.

I think people have just lost sense of how big NBA contracts are now. It’s a long-term extension but this is borderline starter money. This is somewhere around the 60th-70th percentile for players not on rookie contracts

Podz better than Braun ngl

These GMs gotta stop giving 5 year contracts to anyone other then proven stars

Naaa

First thing I thought when I saw this. That’s Christian Braun money but Braun was a starter on a championship team if I’m not mistaken.

[removed]

Same

I promise you not even we care for him

Real ballers know it’s a good deal. Solid player and we have our pg for when Steph leaves.

Is he a good starter?

If he wasn’t on the warriors it would be about 4 for 70-80.  Paying him as if he has been a valuable role player on a contender (see Braun- Nuggets), when in reality he has been a decent role player on a middling team.

Problem with him is he doesn’t really have much upside.  Typically these deals go to wings with more traditional upside as I a creator or 3 and D specialist, he is neither, and never will be

in march he put up 18/6/4 on 45/40/80 splits.. probably increased his value a bit
