Paul George “I know I can be a 20 point scorer, I know I can guard and lock up the best player, I know I can go and sky over and get rebounds. I know the value I bring, I don’t have to be the guy on the team. Tatum is the guy: I’m here to help him be the best version and be in the MVP conversation”
After Jaylen Brown was traded from the Boston Celtics in exchange for Paul George, there have been many conversations on how George will fit next to Jayson Tatum.
At this point in their careers most would consider Brown to be the better player, but as George himself has described, he could be a more versatile clear No. 2 choice next to Tatum.
Talking on 98.5 The Sports Hub, George addressed the idea that the Celtics are Tatum’s team and that he can be incredibly effective next to a superstar.
“I played with another superstar in Kawhi Leonard, right? And I was still an all-star while playing alongside him. Like I don’t have to be the guy but I know what value I bring,” he expressed.
Paul George expressed that he can do whatever is asked of him to help the team without needing to be the main player.
“I know that I can be a 20 point scorer if I need to. I know that I can guard and lock up the best player if I need to. I know I can go and sky over and get rebounds when I need. Like I know how much value I bring to the game that like I don’t have to be known as the guy on the team.”
George details that whatever role he’s in, his goal is to help Tatum be in the MVP conversation.
“I still can control and have an imprint on a game in any role that I have. So again, JT is the guy, right? I’m here and want to be here to help him be the best version and help him be in that MVP conversation.”
