[Highlight] 30-year-old Jon Elmore checked in for his first career preseason game, playing 6 minutes for the San Antonio Spurs last night. He also got a block (shown in the video)

They can never take this away from him. He made it. This is awesome.
Yea I’m happy for him. He’s stuck out in Summer League for awhile so I’m happy for signed and do play in a game even once.
Yeah man. Having that picture in an NBA jersey for his grandkids will be very special.
💯 This is the kind of story you tell the young hoopers out there.
Dawg, I done shed tears for stories like this. Like, how can you not be excited for sports stories like these. Dudes out there hoopin’ over the course of a lifetime and managed to grind it out after a decade to make it to the NBA floor. Shit, more than what 99.9% of the population on the earth could say. The dudes that were able to make that climb are the quintessential journeymen’s journeymen. Can’t help but respect it gang.
Well said and I totally agree
He’s pretty spry for 30. Like he covered some decent ground pretty quickly in the video.
You do realise he is 30 and not 80 yeah?
He credits prune juice and aquarobics in interviews
Same age as Brunson
The average age of this sub is like 16
lol. Sure.
But my point was that he’s speedy even relative to much younger guys which you don’t normally see from 30 year old players, especially 30 year old guys with zero NBA experience. Like he’s moving much faster than Kobe Johnson on this play and Kobe is 23.
[deleted]
My cousin!!! Throws the best alley oops of any PG. So proud of him after many years of grinding.
To join the Spurs of all teams too. I’m a Bulls fan but there’s few organizations that are as good as the Spurs… in all of sports, even.
From the Kings G league too 🤣
Wonder if anyone ever did an analysis over the past few decades of the value of a pick on the Spurs vs other teams. They know/create role players like it’s nothing while other teams are struggling to draft in the lottery lol
I’ve wondered this same thing about the Heat. Spo seems to be able to create playoff teams with nearly any roster
Got to watch him play a few times in Stockton. So happy for him!!
Tell him thanks for repping the bald dudes lol
That’s Ryen Russillo
I was more impressed with the blocks he didn’t have
[removed]
Charissa Thompson and Megan Markle in absolute shambles they missed out on marrying an NBA player
Hope SA kept their doors locked last night
Why didn’t he make it until he was 30?
“Ask them!”
Wait, what??
Why does the NBA make 30 year olds feel like they are 50 or something. This guy and Andre Ingram at 32. We forget PG is like 35.
I used to look at Andre Ingram like he could die in the court
Probably because upside is minimal at that age and unless the player has proven himself to be an NBA level contributor the chances are extremely slim for them to make it to any teams roster. All Stars can be out of the league by that age, let alone those 2 guys.
That math teacher that managed to make it to the floor on a regular season game for the Lakers was a dawg. Wish more stories like him pop up.
That was such a great game seeing him go off. I wonder what he’s up to now. Or if he has that game highlighted in his house or work.
He’s 40 now i’ll be surprised if still playing professional ball .
Who?
Andre Ingram
Ya its like Amir Coffey. He’s out of the NBA even though he’s probably better than at least 50 guys in the league. But there’s no upside potential left for him.
Yeah more than current skill people value future potential the most
Tbf Ingram kinda looked 50 with the mustache graying hair combo
You: “I’m only 35, I have my whole life ahead of me.”
Sports Broadcaster: “Here comes the oldest player in the league. He’s 32. A miracle.”
Human life is so wild to think about. I mean there’s only been a few in history. But imagining hitting 60 years old and that’s only half of your lifespan.
Doesn’t help they look 45
It doesnt help that he genuinely looks 50
30 isn’t old but considering players coming in at 18-19, think about how many players have come in the last 11+ years.
In either case it doesn’t help that this dude was balding in his 20s. I’ve seen 35 year olds that look younger lol
Debuting at 30 in a sport where most people have retired by their early 30s is like starting a new career at age 55
Basketball, especially at the highest of levels, is very much a young mans game
I’d say at the absolute highest of levels guys are usually 27-33ish which is still young but yah. Just saying it’s rare if I’m not mistaken to see a team win a championship when the best players and leaders of the team are early 20s.
And we usually see guys enter their peak level around mid/late 20s until early 30s
because todays new gens are built different
Jokic is almost 32 😂
The biggest thing is these old “rookies” havent had the benefit of world class training, diet, and essentially a life dedicated to staying in impeccable shape for the previous 10 years. PG is 35 but he’s been under the guidance of world class trainers and has essentially unlimited resources to spend his entire life trying to optimize his playing health for the last 15 years
These dudes are scrapping and training while working a normal job or making chump change in some low level league while trying to take care of themselves and their families.
it’s extremely old to be playing in your first NBA game
To be fair, Andre Ingram having a full head of gray hair at 32 definitely didn’t help the illusion.
LeBron, KD and Harden are like 45yo
30 is basically 50 real life years in professional athlete years.
PG is 36. I know bc I had just looked it up.
Because stuff is relative to what the topic is. 30 is considered older in pro sports but young to life in general. Just like 50 is pretty old to be finishing up residency and starting out your first day as a full fledged doctor but also decently old to life as well. Both are pretty amazing feats and should be people proud of regardless.
Im talking biut them highliighting bald guys and guys with greyhair and saying wow they are playing at 30. Thats not that old not wven in nba
I don’t think you mentioned that in your original comment. You used Elmore and Ingram as your examples and PG who’s 35. The difference is Ingram and Elmore are making their debuts at their age where PG is a seasoned vet and has been in the NBA for over 15 years. If this comment were true, they’d genuinely really highlight Caruso for being as such. But they don’t.
Im talking about guys looking like theyre 50. And NBA media being like hes 30. I thought that was old growing up. While there were way older players in the league that looked young. Thats why i mention PG
Bald white guy
Im 2 years older, and he looks at least 15 years older than me
Being bald will do that to you
maybe when you’re 30, but at 40 it’s not your bald head that makes you look old but your face, if you don’t take care of your skin and still live like you’re 25.
Fr. Dudes need to be moisturizing and putting on sunscreen. Y’all ever see what a conference of dermatologists looks like in Hawaii? There’s like two inches of exposed skin across 50 people lol. The sun will fuck you up slowly, every day, and its entirely preventable by putting on one of the 300 different moisturizers out there with some SPF in them. Alright rant over
I’m 33 and I still get ID by the bartender 🤣
Me too, and its 18+ where i live, im not looking forward to the day they stop (even though it mildly annoys me). I used to work in a bar and ID’d a woman once, she turned out to be 57 haha.
I’m 36, got ID’d yesterday when buying beer (legal limit here is 20 years old). Never wore sunscreen in my life, don’t even know what a moisturizer is… I think I’m one of those people who will go straight from looking 20 to 60 over like a year. Like Japanese women who go from 30 to 90 overnight.
this topic / conversation is so played out
He was so cold at Marshall playing under dan Dantoni
Dan Dantoni? Is his brother Toni Dantoni?
Dale Dan Tony
Neon Icon
Toni Dantoni… brothers?
There are 27 guys named dantoni brothers in the country and I will argue with every one of them.
Dantoni Brothers the infamous cousins of the Tony Brothers
Yes actually
Laughed at this guys name 10000x in college thanks for the trip down memory lane
So good they Dan’d him twice
Yes! Him, cj burks, and ajdin penava. Unbelievable trio for a mid major. I think i had them going to the sweet 16 in my bracket that year and I remember they did win their opening game
Someone forgot to drop off their dad to the YMCA, now he’s an nba player.
When “going out for milk” has a happy ending
Kings Legend Jon Elmore
The King of Stockton!
Jon “Stockton” Elmore
I thought I recognized him! Saw him play at a Stockton Kings game, he was balling out.
Summer league goat
G league champion!
Spurs got their own Caruso
Our own Elmer Fudd
Elmore Fudd, if you will.
More like Mark Proksch
Caruso is an elite athlete
Caruso is an elite whiner
I met Jon while photographing The Basketball Tournament a few years back. A really genuine dude who was super nice when I wanted to pick his brain about the Marshall team they put together for the summer team, even when I was just an annoying sideline camera man.
He didn’t get that block…
Well, after careful examination, he definitely got that shit clean
30 years old and hasn’t given up on his dream to make it into nba good for him
He’s actually nice with it too. Very good player
THAT’S MY ROOKIE
He’s 30?
Bro looks like vintage Manu
Great Value Manu
Mamu
No, he’s on Lakers
Wish we’d keep him :‘(
I miss Lonnie too, that double OT game against the rockets in 2019 was the best game I’ve ever been to. At least he’s back in the league
Matemu
Hill Country Fare Caruso
Temu Manu
Dude went on the Baker Mayfield trajectory in college!!! “He joined an intramural team at Marshall and was recruited to varsity by December 2015. In the 2016–17 season, he averaged 19.7 points per game and was a first team all-Conference USA selection.”
bro finished the tutorial at 30 and finally unlocked the NBA
Summer League Laker Legend
Loved seeing a member of the Thundering Herd on the lakers this summer. Sick that he’s still getting a shot
Go Herd!
dude looks 40 wtf
Thats a rough 30…
45*
Mr Egg is that you?
Stockton Kings legend!!!
I’m 36 and he looks like he could be my father 🤣
Mini Danny Ferry, from Temu
Elmore fudd pop off
My Roth IRA type hooper! Someone posted a highlight reel of him in the G going crazy a couple years ago. Amazing passes and nice handles.
He’s got a wet 3 point shot too
Bro is 6’3” looking like a european 6’11” center
I hope they let Ryen, er, I mean Jon, play in Game 82.
Omg love from Lithuania, just love the fact that he kept pursuing his NBA dream
Good for him. Plenty of guys put up big numbers in the G League and overseas and never get a single NBA minute, so six minutes in a Spurs jersey is a real moment. Hope it turns into more.
Let’s go John!!!
Jon*
It’s like a huge insult in Jon/John culture to call one of them the wrong John.
Oh dang, my bad.
I think he’s kidding? I hope he’s kidding.
Were you there for the John Civil War?? When the Jon clan changed their names and splintered, millions of families were shattered. Family killed family.
Peace was only found when Jhon Jakob Jhingleheimer Schmitt showed both sides it’s not about the spelling, it’s about living a Johnest life.
I don’t mean to be some online ass but if you weren’t there educate yourself about it. It will open your mind to why it’s a big deal and you’ll understand why the spellings matter to some johns.
🤷🏻♂️
Strong Brian Cardinal resemblance. The Custodian 2.0?
Literal conehead
Looks like bald Luka.
went to high school with Larry Bird btw
Damn I haven’t seen that name in a minute I remember him at Marshall.
Deceptively athletic.
CEBL legend
I’m sorry, but when I see him, I think of the Coneheads. I hope he succeeds in the NBA.
That’s a rough 30
YESSIR
Dudes at least 40
This is such a Spurs player.
Holy egg head
Bro really said ‘I’ll be old enough to drink beer legally before I play NBA’ and meant it. Like does he have a mortgage? A minivan? The face says 45 but the jump shot says ‘please let me stay’. Honestly though, getting that block after all that grinding through overseas leagues and G-League obscurity is straight up beautiful even if he looks like he should be coaching little league instead. Never too late right? …or maybe he’s actually 60. Hard to tell with that vintage look.
Damn they gave him Sean Elliott’s # too. Disrespectful of Popp
Sean wore #32.
Sean Elliot’s #32 is retired by the Spurs. I believe Bowen letting Aldridge wear #12 is the only time a retired Spurs jersey has been worn again
Um…they did not.
