Maybe it’s a polite way of saying “omg stop asking us about the KAT contract”

SwampFlowers | CHI

31 | 6 hours ago

Yeah this is strange to me. Like, do the agents and front office need to be in the gym and reviewing film? This just sounds like a delay tactic so they can see how their team performs, test the trade market, and then make a decision after the deadline.

emeraldegg

I think generally players and agents and teams agree that having the converstaion during the season can be bad for morale. They’re nipping this in the bud, it was clear KAT and the team were far apart on talks, no need to just keep dragging it out.

Busy_Project_7229

5 | 5 hours ago

It’s a double-edged sword, if they come out of the gate really strong and are looking good 2-3 months from now then I think KAT just refuses to move from the original number.

Only way this works out in the Knicks favor is if they somehow suck ass throughout the season.

cpt-teebs

Except the players. The competing contract talks do KAT, Hart, and Deuce, which necessarily hurt one another, could be tough for the locker room.

I see people blaming the CBA like it’s supposed to be sustainable for your 3rd/4th starter (OG Anunoby) to be on a near max contract…

bbank8744 | NYK

Not every team lucks out in the draft. Managed to win a chip building a team with 1 pick in the top 5 (RJ) in the last 10 years.

Only big piece that was a free agent was Brunson and everyone said we overpaid.

crunchtime100 | NYK

Buy lows everywhere except Bridges. That’s why Leon Rose will go down as a legend in NY

LightSpecialist804 | NYK

I mean back in the day we saw “Big Three” teams with 3 maxes on the team. And Brunson’s on a value deal so it should technically be feasible on this roster.

Can’t wait for the media to blame everything on the contract talk after the team hits the eventual bad stretch mid December

LarBrd33

-12 | 5 hours ago

Pretty improbable run from a fairly mid team that is highly likely to have a letdown follow-up regardless, but no doubt they’ll blame any failure on contract distractions.

But then again, maybe they continue their miracle run and repeat. Who knows.

The Knicks are the only team in the league that has made it out of the first round every year for the last 4 years, and they have made it further in the playoffs every season with Brunson.

I heard all about how it’d be a huge distraction for the team if they didn’t extend KAT by the trade deadline last year and how that’d really hurt the team

I trust Leon. He has been amazing and knows how to handle these things even if they take time

There’s no one in the history of sports that would give KAT a massive contract if he gets sick and his leg is amputated. Thats the whole reason players HATE waiting, they are owning all the risk until they get that contract and guaranteed money.

5-6 years now. Certainly they were not trustworthy until Leon took over but that’s a decent amount of time now. I’ll be worried if/when Leon quits cause he doesn’t want to deal with Dolan but not until then.

azizinator25 | NYK

1 | 5 hours ago

True, but the people running the Knicks presently are the ones who made them trustworthy.

Like, if Dolan cleans house and brings in someone else, Im not gonna be like “well, the Knicks were generally well run under Leon Rose, so i trust that to continue”. My thought will be “Dolan hired him, so he doesnt get the benefit of the doubt”. But for now until Leon Rose gives me a reason not to trust him, he will continue getting the benefit of the doubt

NotAnNpc69 | PHI

13 | 5 hours ago

Guess who you gonna get for KAT

AgadorFartacus | BOS

1 | 5 hours ago

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. He’ll be traded to the Celtics. You better get used to the idea of PG because he’s coming your way.

Doopdoopdoop1uti | NYK

3 | 5 hours ago

Nah, Leon Rose is that dude. We ain’t getting fleeced like that. Only a complete dumbass would take on PG for any reason other than as an expiring contract.

We’re probably gonna have to trade KAT for the best player we can reasonably get and a couple of picks. We can’t max him and Brunson and have 70% of our cap tied up into two players.

Something more realistic I think is like a threeway with the Thunder and whoever is looking to get KAT, where we get like Hartenstein back and a pick or two.

SquimJim | BOS

1 | 5 hours ago

The tricky part is that KAT can leverage his player option in the off-season if he’s not extended

This was how we got Porzingis for so cheap

He was effectively a free agent signing that got looped into the Smart trade

this could either be a smart way to avoid distractions before the season or a move that creates unnecessary tension with players who expect long term security. the real test will be whether the knicks actually revisit these talks later or if this becomes a bigger issue once the season starts

xych05is2pointzero | PHI

This has to be 100% driven by ownership running a much tighter ship now that Dolan’s gotten that elusive title.

You’d think that having extension talks completely tabled for purposes of “preparing for the start of the season” would be more of a distraction otherwise.

This is about not going into the second apron. Even after all these years these people don’t seem to get it. Teams are avoiding the second apron like the plague for a reason. Also Dolan is a lot of things, “cheap” is definitely not one of them.

Awkward_Chard_5025

Have you been around for the last 20 years? Dolan has never had a problem over paying players and bankrolling do nothing teams.

[Charania] The New York Knicks are tabling all contract extension talks, per team spokesperson: “we will not be negotiating contract extensions until later in the season and will remain solely focused on preparing for the start of the season.”
