Everyone clowns the bubble title but the NBA did a great job with the whole event, all things considered. I recall it being a rare reprieve of entertainment during a dark time.
I was so fucking desperate for sports that I was watching competitive marble racing.
RASPBERRY RACERS FOR THE WIN
O’rangers were goated
Team Momo is the best
I used to love Jelle’s Marble Runs.
if you only got into marble racing in covid, you were CRAZY late to the party 😂😂😂
Haha this!
It honestly was some of the most fun hoops in a long time too
i miss seeing players going balls out not having to worry about running into people on the courtside
I don’t get it honestly. They literally created a crucible of competition. No travel, minimal distractions. Just ball.
We got pure basketball in a fucking pandemic and people wanna say it doesnt count lmao
100
It is a micky mouse ring to me. No one respects it. Not even Lakers fans respect the ring which is part of the reason he left.
I can guess what this guy looks like
From a product perspective it was great, from a results perspective its hard to not acknowledge the impact it had. Teams play all season to get homecourt advantage as it absolutely impacts winning, non-factor in the bubble
Ok, but shouldn’t this just make it harder for the top seeds? I thought it was an interesting twist, nothing more.
The team that won had the home court advantage…
Probably around 70% of the people who don’t acknowledge the bubble title is because they don’t like Lebron.
I was rooting for Rockets (eliminated by Lakers) and loved the Bubble other than the small ball failure lol
Also it was the Lakers too, double whammy
And the Clippers. Don’t forget some of the them said it wasn’t a real ring as a coping mechanism for blowing the 3-1 lead against the nuggets.
to this day, Bron gets more stick for not playing the Clippers than anyone on the Clippers did
Definitely the second best thing to come out of the bubble after the thybulle vlogs
It’s because of LeBron/Lakers. You don’t see people act the same towards, for example, Bayern’s Champions League which was arguably much less “trustworthy” as a competition compared to the bubble.
Nothing but respect for playoff Jimmy man. I swear his peak playoff performances were Jordan-esque
The Heat had Dwyane Wade and 4 years of prime Bron. Jimmy’s game 4 performance against the Bucks in 2023 was the greatest playoff game I’ve ever seen by a Heat player
That game was insane.
Jrue played great defense. The Bucks & Giannis played great.
Both G4 & G5 the Bucks played great. But Jimmy scored 56 & then 41.
There were multiple games against us in the ECF that I thought I was watching the best player I’ve ever seen
[deleted]
It was truly electric and special. The rosters he carried to the finals made me such a fan but too bad he ended on such a sour note with us. Everything happens for a reason though, as we’re better now without him and he got his bag.
I feel like it’s hard to claim you’re better without him when you made 2 finals with him
We’ll see. Hope is at an all-time high right now on the Heat sub.
The team as a whole was really solid at the time. I think this comment is more that we’re better today with Giannis, Wiggins, and Mitchell than we would be with Jimmy + the Giannis package (regardless of Jimmy being injured or not).
Better without him than we were at the end of his tenure. Awesome run, but pretty clear it had run its course. Jimmy is 37 now and has put his body through the ringer.
Depends how the Giannis era goes
Jimmy is what Westbrook could have been if he had the slightest vestige of BBIQ
I mean yeah, dude would play just like his dad
Then he was pretty much dead the next game.
Beyond dead. It makes what Lebron does that much more impressive. Lebron does this shit night after night and Jimmy was able to keep up for 1 night before dying.
This is one of my reasons why on paper basketball analysis can be super inaccurate sometimes. You can look on paper and say this or that team has more talent than another but that doesn’t account for if someone like Butler is typically around the 11th-15th best player but then turns into a top 3 player for a few games or weeks .
That’s why we watch the games
Yes but what about statistically and analytically tho?
Atkinson’s statement was tone deaf but accurate.
The Bubble was so awesome and people trying to discredit it are stupid.
Dame couldn’t miss in the Bubble and Curry dominated in 2021 imo his best regular season because of the reduced crowds. Our Duncan Robinson couldn’t miss in the Bubble Curry would’ve been more bonkers in the Bubble compared to the 2020-21 season.
The bubble legit was some of the best series ever. The Jazz and Nuggets was insane too. Mitchell and Murray dropping 50 pieces back and forth.
The Celtics and Raptors series where they killed each other to get fed to us was also a great series.
The no crowd noise issue was resolved fast with some of the best skilled basketball I’ve ever seen.
I didn’t think it was great :<
The look on OG’s face when he hit that corner 3
The Nuggets in the bubble made me an NBA fan. I saw a tweet that the best player on the court moves like a fat kid playing barefoot on asphalt and that sounded hilarious and nothing else was happening in the world so I tuned in. Then the tweet was true, and the two 1-3 comebacks in a row… I was hooked.
Them geography made me a Warriors fan. Steph Curry April 2021 was an out of body experience. And 2022 was nice too.
I was in Denver watching Dame solo carry the blazers to 3 overtime’s vs the nuggets. Halfway through the second overtime the nuggets stadium was cheering for Dame. Never seen that shit before.
Lol this is some insane levels of revisionism.
So irresponsible to start the 2021 season two months after this
Sigh… If only dragic and bam were healthy. I think we could’ve won. Ain’t no way we were winning against the nuggets lol
Yeah, I don’t think they had a shot the way the Lakers were playing.
AD was averaging 25⁄10 on 50/40/90 with DPOY defense and LeBron averaged 30/12/9 on 67% TS.
They made it to game 6 without their 2nd and 3rd best player, having 3 rookies playing heavy minutes. They absolutely had a chance.
They required the greatest games of Jimmy Butler’s life to squeak out two wins and got handily beaten in the other four games.
Yeah but those were crazy games from Butler. Most of the games weren’t close that the Lakers won.
They it made it to 6 games in a series where A.D wasn’t even playing his best . It went 6 games but that 6th game wasn’t even close . Butler was locked up game 6.
Davis averaged 25⁄11 on 57/42/94 shooting
Seeing as his career shooting averages are 52/29/79 I’d say he was pretty close to “playing his best”
And Goran was arguably the heats best player on the way to the finals and he basically didn’t play the whole series
Would have still lost
Not even . Wasn’t beating this version of LeBron James to be honest ,
I think Lebron would have won MVP that year if it the league didn’t shut down.
Could’ve? Maybe. A better chance against LA than 2020 Denver? You’re smokin crack, 2020 Lakers were unstoppable before and after the bubble
Think they meant in 2023
Ahhh I see. Yeah 2023 is… a different story. I don’t want to talk about it
Vietnam flashbacks
If only Dragic and Bam were healthy smh
i really believed the heat had a much better shot going into that series than most people gave them. jimmy is a monster with enough support behind him. hell he’s a monster with bums lol. it still would have been an uphill climb with how well lebron and AD were playing, but i thought there was a chance and was rooting for them. injuries made it basically impossible.
Wolverineremember.jpg. Loved the Jimmy Heat more than any other Heat team, and I’m old. Bums me out to this day how it ended, and also I am still frustrated that the FO just wouldn’t (couldn’t?) improve the roster while all of our opponents were taking huge roster swings to improve.
This game cemented my respect for Jimmy Buckets. Hell of a player and hell of a game. He could barely walk after.
Nobody was stopping that Lakers team but Jimmy put the team on his back that game and as a fan of the game and Jimmy I loved to see it. Gave us one more good game of basketball to play.
Steph Curry be damned (but also important), Jimmy Butler is the warriors x factor. Everything would have to fall into place perfectly, but if Steph and Jimmy both peaked at the right time the warriors would be dark horse nba champions in 2027
Their age combined with injuries will make it hard for them. They will do it for one playoff series or even 2 but then if one of them falls it will be over.
If both of them are healthy but not peak the warriors are done. But honestly I don’t even like the warriors, and if both Steph and Jimmy did peak like that I’d be so amped to watch it. Butler is severely underrated as a clutch player, he’s almost single handedly pulled teams deep into the playoffs multiple times, I just kinda hope he wins it all before he hangs them up. Deserves it more than most.
Any time I see clips of Butler in the Finals now, the only thing I can think of is that both Wiggins and KAT have rings before him.
Neither one of those dudes were the guy on their team, Jimmy was going at Lebron
In this series Jimmy put up 2 of the top ten highest finals game scores ever recorded on LeBron James head. Pretty wild.
How many free throws?
Knicks wouldn’t have gotten past Atlanta without Towns and would’ve exited first round.
and has 0 rings
And Jimmy could have used them, if he had the patience to wait for them to grow. Jimmy wanted the money and wanted to win right away, instead of letting young guys get where they were going.
They were not winning anything with the Timberwolves
We don’t know that, Jimmy quit playing team ball within 1 month. He never gave it a chance.
Those guys didn’t even win with the wolves.
?????
Jimmy was never gonna win anything with them on that team. Do you not realise how different Wiggins and KAT were on the teams they won, and how much those teams facilitated their roles?
They both got chips as signficant pieces and that’s amazing. Jimmy was still right when he said what he said, and is still a significantly better player than both of them.
Jimmy was upset in Minnesota because he was convinced those guys were too soft for them to be key players on championship teams. He thought they couldn’t be led to a championship. Turns out, Jimmy wasn’t a good enough leader
jimmy doesn’t make the finals without his roleplayers going supernova in 2023 and they never stood a chance in 2020 against the Lakers even if they were healthy
A team that takes the Finals to game 6, with 2 of their top 3 players either out or playing with one arm, never stood a chance? That’s like saying that the Pacers didn’t have a chance in the 2025 Finals, even before Haliburton tore his Achilles…
pacers were a half away from the chip.
miami was a bounce away from losing 4-1. it’s a bad comparison. they were never beating that lakers team
And KAT was going at Wemby.
Also the knicks’ performance dramatically changed when KAT changed his game up in round one.
Do you think you would have beaten the spurs without Jalen? Or if Jalen was say 18 6 4?
No. And the Knicks would not have won without KAT either. What’s your point?
Rings as team leader and rings as 2nd or 3rd option weights drastically different.
Jimmy’s two finals appearances at Heat means more than either of Wiggins and KAT’s rings.
This is also the response for all the “Robert Horry has 7 rings” people. Horry can have 10 more rings but he will never be in the all time discussion if he’s just a starter.
Against LeBron and Jokic. I mean wcyd
lmao alright bud. 0 rings > 1 ring over here
It would be crazy to see Wiggins win one pre Butler in Golden State and one post Butler in Miami
Didn’t he play all 48 minutes of this game or something like that? Did they end up winning?
Butler has gotten clowned the past few years, but people seem to forget he got two teams to the Finals that did not have the talent to be there.
Jimmy loved to demonstrate he could win games by himself.
Respect to Jimmy but I remember how next game he and ad looked exhausted while Bron appeared like he hadn’t even started a single game yet 😂. Really showed his conditioning
I mostly thought the bubble was weird and off putting but this is one of my all time favorite championship performances. Don’t even care that he lost, Jimmy will always be a champion to me for leaving it all on the court like this
2016⁄17 LeBron, 2020 Jimmy, and 2010s Kobe carried teams in a way we might not see again for at least a decade lol
Glad he’ll retire without a ring
yep, watching this is actually pretty bittersweet.
Sorry but nobody can tell me that was a Mickey Mouse ring just because Lakers/Lebron won. I haven’t seen that level of basketball being played since then
The dude lost in the finals, that’s ruins his legacy. He’ll never be considered a winner. – People that fuss about Lebron
/s
The bubble was the best pure basketball I’ve ever seen
I hated that they never added extra days off in between games for the bubble playoffs. You could tell in game 6 that he was absolutely gassed and couldn’t carry the team any further.
bubble is a fake mickey ring until it’s time to bring up jimmy butler putting it his all to win it and miami being the only team to get 2 wins off that lakers squad
then when he had 11 points in game 6, he gets grace for being too tired as opposed to lakers shutting him down
Such a fun run, good memories
Top 5 most overrated players in nba history
Who are the other 4? I know you’ve definitely thought about this extensively.
Vince Carter, James harden, Allen iverson and Kobe
Not a bad list, eh?
What’s yours?
NickYoung.png
And then played like shit in game 6
Downvote me to all hell, but no crowds means no pressure. It’s like interviewing over Zoom.
It’s a mickey mouse ring and I’ll die on this hill. You know who else had a historic moment inside Mickey’s clubhouse? TJ Warren.
The season was like no other, but let’s not pretend somehow these millionaires were affected by the pandemic like the rest of the world.
“Say Their Names” yet the only one listed is Robinson
