Embiid should watch some tape of Sabonis when he was old & had no mobility left, yet he was still an effective player. For Embiid it would be less passing & more scoring, but he should still use that as a model for how to play at this stage of his career.

It’s a huge weight for any mentally weak player. Social media will COOOK them at any misplay, weakness, stupid shit outside the court, etc.

Real NBA fans have been making these criticisms of Embiid for a couple of years already. Because it’s the truth.
He might be the most offensivelly skilled center in league history, but he’s not the same player anymore. And let’s not forget the time Maxey called him out. Was that about LeBron too?
I’m not saying he’s completely washed, but I’m serious about tailoring his game to minimize how much he needs to move around with the ball in his hands. He should play more like post prime A. Sabonis, or prime Shaq. Nothing fancy. Catch the ball, look around, 1 dribble maximum, bucket or pass. Simple. And he needs to stop whining all the time.
You don’t understand… on this sub, a player is only as good as the last game of basketball he has played. It doesn’t matter if it was a completely meaningless preseason game on a team with huge roster turnover. Embiid is now entirely useless and you might as well trade him for scraps. It’s over.

After rewatching it I think the truth is in the middle.
Egor Demin( who is 6’8) tags the roller who is Brown early but he does so with active feet. His foot is in the paint but he’s between Embiid and Maxey.
By the time the botched pass to Brown is made, his teammate has already told him to recover back to Maxey and he’s still between ball and man although he’s pretty far from Maxey.
I wouldn’t make that pass but it isn’t a clear steal. Demin plays very good help defense that possession and it blows up the advantage.
I still think keeping the ball for an iso was the best decision but holding the ball for an extra moment to allow the play to develop and the advantage of doubling LeBron then Embiid to expose itself would’ve been fine too.
Embiid is 7ft tall and can clearly see the trap closing on Brown before he even throws the pass.
He can see VJ’s man rotating on the perimeter, the paint is completely clogged for a cut, and Jaylen isn’t even in a ready shooting position even if Embiid did think he had space for a shot.
Meanwhile Maxey is still in his Field of Vision, he’s clearly looking at him cause he faked/hesitated a pass to him just before the Brown one, and Maxey is in shooting position with the only defender able to contest having his back turned to him and feet still in the paint.
That was just a bad call by Embiid.

I fear for Embiid whenever he has games like this. Social media’s gonna eat him alive especially with this team expectations
He had games like this at the beginning of the season last year except it was the regular season and not preseason. He ended up cleaning things up on offense.
There’s still no reason to play through him this much as a passer. Last year sure but not with the roster we have now.
It’s literally what he does at the beginning of every year. And every first or second game post injury. He has like a weird ramp up where he goes from the worst player in basketball to one of the best over the course of a month
Surely at some point age is going to prevent that ramp up but this year Im all in drinking the kool aid because of his weight loss
He’s gotten better as a passer every year, he just always sucks in the beginning of a season and then becomes a god almost every year since then lol

We need to figure out some better sets to get Lebron in a playmaking position, and those sets will likely change where Embiid positions himself. Lebron should lead the team in assists by far imo. Embiid’s usage would naturally go down and I dont think thats a bad thing at all.
sixers beat writer / analyst derek bodner always says that embiid ‘plays his way into shape’ at the beginning of each season.
i.e. embiid is not a summer conditioning guy (he spends all summer with hanlen working on skills), and he uses the early parts of seasons to slowly lumber into mid-season shape.
embiid could’ve been a lot more serious about his conditioning and diet early in his career, but at this point old habits die hard (or not at all).
He didn’t have games like this with LeBron on his team though. The spotlight burns a lot of his teammates whether right or wrong.
