Victor Wembanyama Crossover Step back 3
I know we call a lot of things unguardable.
This is truly unguardable.
Does he even need to do this, he’s unblockable anyway
Exactly, I feel like he needs to learn to shoot over most people plainly, because that’s really maximizing his advantage. Plus the skyhook.
He can sky hook me right in to my asshole anytime.
Thats how durant does it, just let them contest because he’s gonna drain em anyway
dirk shot + sky hook = unblockable
If you play ball, there is a difference with being absolutely free from defender vs the defender being able to distract you even without blocking. Tony Allen was too short to block durant but he managed to affect his shots
I do ball but I also have children and don’t find that they distract my shooting at all so there is some amount of middle ground there
Are your children first team all defense?
Let him have fun.
He generated like 6 feet of space
It was awful defense
So this is what an 6ft 30in kevin durant looks like
Killing for fun
Yea the step back started when his foot was almost on the free throw line. It almost looks comical lol
You should watch it again then. He took multiple steps just inside the 3 point line
Huh? I never said otherwise. He did start the step back near the free throw line
He took three steps to get outside the 3 point line lol
My point is the step back is not that impressive
The shot was
I would call this a walk, but I’m old school. The skip on the right foot I guess is a gather?
He didn’t pick up his dribble until he put two hands on the ball. Until then it was still an active dribble. By that time his feet were already in place.
Not agreeing or disagreeing with it but that’s just how the rules are called now and why you see many plays that look like travels not being called.
As an European, who played on younger levels and got called on for every little thing, it’s so frustrating watching NBA players travel constantly.
I mean this wouldn’t be a travel in Europe either. Maybe 20 years ago it would’ve been, but not right now.
Guess it’s been 20 years since I was playing…
Still it’s frustrating even if this one isn’t a travel, there is so much traveling in today’s game.
I don’t see the travel at all, it’s a gather and he shoots.

Might as well cherry pick
I bet that 7-4 Chinese woman from a couple days ago could give him a challenge
Are we being serious right now? The defender was off balance and played weak by letting another physically weak player push him around. That was horrible defense
This is absolutely not unguardable lol
Thank you I thought I was the only one. Add in the fact that the defender is hopping instead of sliding and moving his feet, it made that much easier for Wemby to get him off balance.
4 guard lineup and a 6’8 center vs Wemby 😂
Like Pawnee High School kids going against Chris Bosh
And he’s better at the French horn
Warriors starting 5 be like
at the very least y’all have drunk-build Draymond can still pass and the IQ is still there, plus Curry
He’s moving ridiculously fast so far. He needs to get subbed out and save this for the regular season haha
Not only fast but strong. Dude guarding him but some pretty strong contact into him and got put on his heels and Wemby just stayed in control.
Him losing the finals at an early age just made him even more stronger
He’s like a saiyan
missed watching this dude play
Seriously. My brain somehow forgot that we get alien highlights get a like this every few days for the majority of the year.
For real how did I already forget how massive he is
Same 🍆 🥵
[removed]
Shit, hes getting better. He pulled that back real quick for 7’5
Nasty af
This fuckery will go on for much longer, fuck god
Somebody teach this dude a fuckin skyhook
You mean, a move only one player in history learned after years of practice?
jokic can do it, it’s just less efficient for him than offense he normally outputs.
That’s the point. The Skyhook would be the most useless shot imaginable for Wemby. It’s a tougher shot to make that has for only benefit to be “uncontestable.” Being contested is the very last of Wemby’s worries.
What makes a hook a skyhook? Release point? Any jumping hook? Does Jonas Valanciunas count?
Nobody has ever quite done it like Kareem. That’s a shot you simply can’t replicate without putting in years of practice. It’s the combination of high release point, adaptability and efficiency that made it special.
Tbh, Wemby with a hook shot like that would be completely broken - but Wemby with a jump shot is also completely broken, so he simply doesn’t need it. What he does need is a “go to move”, it doesn’t matter which one he develops.
Body completely sideways, perpendicular to the basket and shooting with your arm that is farther away, so the defender can’t get very close. Shooting arm completely extended up into the air, the shooting motion is just a flick of the wrist. I’ve been watching basketball since the 90s and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one attempted in an NBA game.

If George Zidek can do it, Wemby should be able to
Requires ridiculously good touch that I don’t think he has
Yet
Theres a reason nobody else has mastered it i would much prefer him get dirk fade ngl
The power of yet 😍
I just realized regular hook shot IS a sky hook when Wemby does it
Somebody teach him a fucking drop step baby hook at least lol.
I wonder if him being quite wiry makes the drop step not as efficient as compared if he had more mass.
I think Shaq’s dropstep is unguardable because his tree trunk legs make him so stable.
The frame (and being 7’5) might have some more complexities?
No, our only hope is that he doesn’t do just that lol
Dribbling the ball backward while talking your first step forward is so elite. He basically doubled the space of his step back. Tripled if you account for his height mismatches. His wingspan amplifies the effect further. I’m genuinely watching an alien.
I thought push offs were a point of emphasis for the refs this year.
Edit: damn I hate Wemby, but another angle looks legit.
It’s just the angle, Wemby doesn’t push off of him at all. I’ll try to upload a different angle to show what I mean
Edit: best I could do I don’t think that’s an offensive foul by any means
wow D man was flat footed, the distance wemby created makes it seem like there has to be a push off but there was literally almost 0 contact and no force. crazy
Wemby faked a behind the back dribble, it was smooth as fuck. The defender backpedals because he falls for the feint and thinks wemby’s going to the basket.
Its the split second delay after the crossover. his positioning there is for ‘behind the back’ but he does this weird arm-whip with his gumby arms, and the ball stays in place. Then he steps back as the defender rolls to the basket.
I think he slips a little bit.
You don’t gotta prove nothing, just let the haters call it what they want too. Won’t stop Wemby either way.
Sincerely, an SGA fan
Too late haha
Thanks for the better angle, I was honestly thinking the same thing about it being a blatant push off but yours clearly shows it wasn’t at all!
Good shit King.
Insane pull, bro has cameras everywhere
You’re seeing things.
Classic Knicks fan
Accurate reply after all his bs in the playoffs. Maybe if and when he grows up I’ll show him some respect. Until then, he’s just some tall child.
Why do you hate wemby?
Refs are in preseason mode too
Defensive foul if anything.
Full arm obvious extensions only clearly lmao
Yea he did push off here
Rested wemby is so elite
People don’t talk about this enough. It’s all conditioning for him.
God fucking damn
fuck he needs a crossover stepback 3 for?
Ah yes. Another year of me going “well that’s unfair”!
But so fun to watch
Bro 1 step of him is like 2.5 steps for me
The crossover is mostly for show when your release point is already above the building.
This is the kind of shit he was doing while bored in France before he got drafted
7’5 kd 😂 still amazes me
More like 7’5 brandon ingram
If I was a hornets fan I also wouldn’t watch basketball
Ingram at 7’5” would be insanely good
You’re delusional if you think his offense is even close to KD
You lost all credibility when you compared him to Ingram of all people lmao
Agreed , good thing Hornets dodged a bullet and picked 2nd.
i genuinely think this dude would be nasty even at average nba height
There’s like a lot of players in the NBA that don’t have a single slider where theirs is higher than Wemby’s. Good players
If he was 6’8 this shot wouldn’t be impressive. I actually think while his shot and ball handling are great with how big he is but not so much compared to the other elite players.
I do too, but last time I said this I basically was called a dumbass. His height makes him generational but he has enough translatable traits to still be decent without it
The opposite would be the hot take. There have been other huge mobile guys that sucked. Wemby has been in the goat conversation because he is good at basketball.
I swear I thought Jacob Toby got fired after the stuff with cheating on his girlfriend with Lindsey Waters sister.
Did I just imagine him being fired or did something change?
They brought him back. It was a contentious decision.
Anytime you can have contention with a below average team media member, you just have to seize that opportunity
I was happy he left, then maybe I don’t have to watch these dudes eating every game. They got rid of him when the season was over and brought him back before it started, became such a nothing burger.
They gotta change the traveling rule just for him and call it at 2 steps only when he does it
He gets a ton of distance out of his gather steps. Every time I see a highlight i think it’s a travel but he’s not doing anything other players aren’t doing. He’s just way longer than everyone else.
Mmmmm
Being tall enough to shoot over practically anyone and still hitting them with a crossover and stepback is just disrespectful. At some point the NBA needs to nerf this guy.
Tough
He looks so fucking weird bro. Truly 1 of 1
Okay seriously, he really shook him. It’s so extremely bizarre to see a frame like that move in such a way.
irl MyPlayer build
That’s not fair
He doesn’t even need to cross over. Dude is tall enough to just shot over anyone lol
How’s a 7’7” guy doing this
His jumper has a better arc this year
So glad he’s on our team
Never heard of him
It looks like the monk training he did from last offseason just went into effect, because wtf
lol
Does step back is neccesary
Yup, alien man still good
Did this guy not do a summer with Hakeem?
This kid might be pretty good.
It’s a win for everyone if he still thinks he’s curry.
Except the spurs.
That was filthy
Immaculate footwork by Wemby for the stepback 3!
stiff armed his ahh
Travel. I know it doesn’t get called in the NBA anymore but it’s still blatant
Nothing about this is a travel he did one last dribble then took a step back and shot like what lmao
It’s 3 steps. It’s arguably a shuffle also. The refs don’t call the game properly anymore so it will never get called
Such godawful shot selection. It does look sleek, but at what cost?
That’s great but get your big ass in the post!
to back down people with his 5 feet high waist or what
there is more stuff wenby could learn but people obsession with him learning the worst possible use of his frame/skillset will always baffle me
They keep trying to put him a box.
Maddening.
How many steps is a player allowed to take between dribbles?
technically infinite. cause stutter stepping while dribbling isn’t a travel
