What? He’s one of the best athletes in the world, what’s wrong with saying he thinks he’s the best?

It’s the daylight savings

1 playoff series win? Tf are you talking about. They lost in 7 last year in the WCF and won a ring the year before lol

brudda are you confusing him with Jokic? lol

Average r/NBA “ball knower”

what the fuck are you talking about child

What lol, OKC has won 7 series in 2 years including championship

they won the championship literally last year

When the LLM corpus only goes up to 2024

I was going to say are you confusing him with Luka, but then I realized the only series the Lakers won the last 2 years he didn’t play lol

This comment is the definition of recency bias you wouldn’t feel comfortable typing ts out at all if Hukporti didn’t just injure his achilles

Bub carrington

Wemby does not have an argument his offense is why to behind. He may be there this year but hasn’t shown it yet. Jokic I would argue the same but opposite side. To me Giannis is the only one that is close to the impact on both sides of the ball as SGA.

Luka has an argument surely? He was the best player in the world for most of last season.

2014-15 LeBron was the first time people consistently called him the best player in the world where there was really any argument. When he took the crown in 2008ish he didn’t let go until Curry started going superhuman. It wasn’t until 2017-2018 that I could comfortably say he was not the best anymore.

His play earns the praise, his team is just not comparable to some of the top teams currently. That being said I think DeRozan will turn out to be their bestsave player since Murray, and maybe more reliable.

You act as if the other best in the world players were playing with scrub team mates. Giannis/Shai had talent around them when they won their MVPs this past decade.

More than playoffs exist and even as a jokic hater his regular season number’s have had him in mvp convos (and those he’s won) for a reason

i mean murray put up those numbers playing off of jokic

Luka and Giannis have also either not played or not played well and their teams have lost in the first round too.

Who even is the standard in the top 5 anymore

Oh he is definitely right.

it should be Giannis but also gotta see a season of him being productive again its been awhile

I can see that you prioritize offense, Wemby is so game changing on defense that he is easily right there with them, and the fact that Shai is a good off ball defender also helps him in a realm people don’t think of much

Like Wemby and Shai will usually have better players around them, but I think that’s partially because it’s easier to build around them because they have less major deficiencies than Jokic and Luka.

Jokic and Luka are better engines if you can get the premium parts but if you are just going to Facebook marketplace and giving me random stuff give me shai and Wemby every day

I have never seen a player warp the court on defense the way Wemby does. I get its fairly small sample size and for career accolades and ‘all time’ conversations he isnt at the top because of that…but holy shit there has never been anyone like him on defense. The fact that his offense is just good, and versatile, means its hard not to put him in that top tier of players right now. Its weird because he clearly has more potential to grow in, but I think he is already as impactful to winning as anyone else playing today.

I think Luka is in the same bracket.

He’s not well liked in real life either lol, he really doesn’t have a good reputation even among casual fans

exactly. very infuriating player to watch!

Those battles were great

Yeah, but people are going to forget all about his embarassing performances in the playoffs once he puts up insane stat lines against the likes of the Jazz and the Kings in the regular season.

At least we’re past the “Luka is better than SGA” nonsense.

OKC has like 3 all-nba players and 5 all-defensive players on their roster the last 2 years.

Jokic has had 1 all-star playing beside him ever since he was drafted.

I agree but why are you pretending like shai had a great playoff run this year? If you’re gonna have that as the end all be all then wemby’s the best in the world.

It’s a team sport. Sga has had multiple great defenders on his team. Jokic has only had one and he’s been hurt for years now and likely won’t be his best self ever again.

Teammates matter

because he’s been the best player for 8 years in a row and it’s not been close.

His aggregate stats over the season suggest he’s the strongest player

I guess 25.⁸⁄₁₃.²⁄₉.5 counts as “shut down”, only when it comes to Jokic.

You mean average triple double?

SGA shot worse in his series loss to the Spurs than Jokic did in his series loss to Minnesota.

How can you be that tall and be shit at defense it’s a joke lol

Crazy

you people that use AG being a good defender against Jokic are fucking hilarious, so Shai can play alongside Chet(DPOY runner-up), Dort(All defense), Caruso(All defense), Jalen Williams(All defense), Cason Wallace(All defense), Isaiah Hartenstein(has gotten all defense votes before) but Jokic plays with 1 good defender and it gets used against him?

Nah. I think the new rules are going to hurt everyone - but SGA and 1-2 others, like Luka. He’s just too good at it, he does it with such precision and tact, better body control than everyone else, that he’ll be able to continue drawing fouls, meanwhile the rest of the league will get called for it. He is just too good at getting the defender to bait just slightly, then rub them with his shoulder, and draw the foul, whereas most of the rest of the league isn’t as smooth, and will get called for the foul.

You people thinking SGA lives by the whistle are high. He’s just too good, and will utilise whatever rules the NBA put forth to his advantage. If others could, they would.

Luka the only player in Nba history who can constantly be pushed as better than multi mvps and champions while having none himself

That was less about the Lakers roster being good (it wasn’t, they had shit depth) and more about the Rockets being a team of hopelessly inept, stupid, ball fumbling players despite having better talent on paper. Reddick completely outcoached Udoka as well.

It’s not even just last year, people talk about how shit his roster was in 2022, meanwhile they were already up 2-1 in a playoff series without him by the time he got back from injury lol

For a guy who his fans swear is surrounded by paraplegics for teammates every year, they sure seem to hold their own fairly well without him in the playoffs.

What a dumb sentence

Dude was ass last year and lost them the playoffs. He was AWFUL against the Spurs. Just a waste of a max contract

Fake MVPs. No nuance
