A lot of coaches think that’s precisely when you should double. Most really good players know how to punish help since they see it so often, and you’re more likely to get turnovers against shittier players who get overwhelmed.
Although for this possession I think it’s more the defense just staying in scramble mode after the pump fake, rather than a double teaming thing
I think most rotational players in the nba can very easily pass out of double teams. In theory that strategy makes sense but you never see it work, and instead you just end up giving up an open 3. It was a massive issue for the nuggets last year. Their paint defense shockingly was pretty solid during the regular season but they’d double team random bench players and give up a billion wide open 3s. Basically all of their losses to bad teams last year came almost exclusively because of it

It’s like arguing with a wall. I spent too much time defending OKC and I’m not even a fan. Are the flop complaints valid? Sure, but people act like only OKC does it and it’s so exhausting. Also, everyone complaining about OKC’s defense. I’ve always loved watching it and people also act like OKC is the only team that’s physical. All good defensive teams are. Knicks and Spurs were super handsy all playoffs too.
Yeah I think a big reason the spurs beat us, (aside from missing Mitchell and jdub) was because of how physical they were on the defensive end. It really bothered any non Shai ball handler. I think the rockets and pistons bludgeon teams just as much as OKC does but it’s just good hard defense for them and a massive blight on the game when it’s OKC lol

Tbf it’s also unwatchable for the people who actually watch the game but have confirmation bias. Because every free throw we get is proof that OKC is ruining basketball and every free throw they don’t get shows how unfair the reffing is.

There are absolutely good possessions like this but the offense devolving into “Shai, do something” has been an issue for a while, even in the championship season. There are benefits to this (turnover reduction and possessionmaxxing) but this is never gonna be a tiki-taka team.

However last night with the actual starters playing they had like 23 assists on 30 makes. They were throwing that shit around.
The more relevant stat would be how many passes per possession, which I don’t know. But my point is not to question their offense or the efficiency of it, merely to point out that it by definition does not fall under the type of basketball that the 2010s Spurs mastered and which everyone colloquially calls “beautiful basketball” which is all about minimal dribbling, multiples passes, and egalitarian scoring. Golden State during their dynasty would be another example.
OKC is amazing, but by virtue of their personnel/star they do not play the way those teams do—which again is totally fine since they literally won a chip playing the way they do

Because this isn’t representative of their style of basketball at all. OKC plays an incredibly iso-heavy offense. They are in the lower half for passes per game and points off assists.
the beautiful game style needs to be contrasted by Shai’s shenanigans for it to be an overall winning formula. it’s fair to hate OKC if you hate Shai’s shenanigans.

He is legit the worst nba player I’ve seen in years. He’ll get minutes though here and there because Mark will always find ways to play guys. He got decent burn last season, will probably get less this year though.
He’s a roster spot for the Clippers pick next year. He can play if we’re blowing teams out by 30 in the 4th though
