Yes. He was the offensive engine of our team. The difference in production with him on and off the floor was staggering. He hasn’t won shit because we couldn’t put an actual team around him. But once we were healthy and gave him a roster, our starting 5 was one of the best in the league.
More than that he actually wanted to be in Charlotte. He was happy here. We’re not a big city that will draw people in like an LA or NY or Miami.
I thought they were fun last year but did you really see that as sustainable? In the east?
Lamelo averages 50 games a season and makes 40M a year and will be looking for another max in like a year if he does perform. Idk seems like you guys are better off in the long run. Christian Anderson, Schroeder and Coby White should provide enough punch at the 1 I think.

Losing organization. I grew up in the Charlotte area in the 90’s and loved the Hornets. Everyone did, they had the most support of any pro team in the Carolinas. People really sad when they moved to New Orleans. I was like 15 when we got the Bobcats and they never had any support. Team sucked, logo sucked, colors sucked, nobody cared.
I moved to the Boston area in 2017 very early in Tatum & Browns careers. At the time was a young, fun to watch team. Watching those guys develop and grow as a part of an organization that actually wants to win has been unbelievably fun and I’m definitely going to be a Celtics fan for life.
But don’t get it twisted, I could live here the rest of my life and I’ll never root for the Pats. Go Panthers

Edit: downvoting but the Hornets were 9th in the East last year when he played the most games he has since he was 20, with the rookie of the year and 3 20 point scorers flanking him. When Lamelo plays 40 games this season I think the hornets fans will be feeling 👌
I would’ve been fine with them trading him if they got a decent return, the return they got is not close to lamelos value imo.
It’s hard to really put a number on what Lemelos value is I think, and when you get into all the pick swaps it gets weird so I agree to an extent the package doesn’t seem that big or anything. But a 1st and 3 2s is decent for an oft injured guy, and with the lottery system, possibly the pick swaps get more interesting. But I think they were kind of done with him and didn’t want to pay whatever his next contract was going to be so it seems pretty fair.
I just can’t see how a first and Naz Reid equals Lamelo in any situation but only time will tell
When LaMelo was on the court last year, Hornets had a legitimately HISTORICALLY good offense. When he was off the court, the Hornets had the worst offense in the league.
Do what you will with that info, but if past success with a bad team is indicative of a players value, you would’ve hated the Kevin Garnett trade to the Celtics back in the day.
Small sample size, And Historically good offense is a stretch, but that also kinda dismisses the other 3 20 point scorers on his team, nearly 4 with Coby white. They had a good offensive team but still didn’t even really make the playoffs.
Also, you can’t assume health with him when he averages 50 games a year played and is already on a minutes restriction in his mid 20s that puts him in sixth man territory.
Comparing him to KG is crazy he had already shown to be the number one option on a team that was very competitive for years and a multi time all nba player.

But yes, their offensive rating with LaMelo on the court was 126.1. The highest team offensive rating of all time is 123.2. So yes, historically high. When he was off the court, their offense dropped to 110.6, even with the other scorers im apparently discrediting.
The Timberwolves best year with KG was 4th in the west. And a single conference final. In 12 years.

The issue is not if Melo will be effective; we know he is. All metrics bear it out, and eye-test says he’s got a kind of chaotic nature to his game that at times verges on genius (and at other times perplexing in a bad way).
But the dude just can’t stay healthy, and one season is not enough.

This is still a microcosm of what we see every game to some degree. Just pass it around the wing and then jack up a lazy shot, and if it goes it you get a greater reward than if you’d worked the ball closer.
The season is very long. 1 game is also long. Most of the time they just usually peactice the first half and really start playing the second half. There’s not point to fully exert themself.
