Isn’t that Ants fault?
Watching the play, Kuminga is engaged with his man trying to deny the ball the entire time, while Ant is neither guarding his man nor providing on ball help and has his head turned completely away from the ball. So it definitely looks like Edwards is at fault and he seems the most lost.
That said, there’s still some nuance here in that from this play alone, we don’t know what coverage the Wolves were supposed to be doing. If the call was to be in a zone defense for that possession, there’s a case to be made that Kuminga was supposed to hand Siakam off to Edwards or at least communicate more clearly that he was sticking to his man when they entered Edwards’ area.
Either way. This was potentially going to look like that mavericks game where Luka was paying attention to the bench yelling to cover the backdoor instead of the wide ass open dunk to clinch the game lol
Nah that was Edwards’ man
Agree. After watching the video, Ant was the one who fell asleep on defense 😂
Edwards deserves just as much blame on the miscommunication
I would say more because he decided switching includes a lengthy face to face conversation.
Gunna doubt the plan is him to be on Siakam in the first place.
It’s not a miscommunication, Edwards just stops defending his man. He makes no motion toward Kuminga to ask for a switch, he doesn’t start guarding Siakam. Dude just spaced out
Agreed. And even if it was a miscommunication, why would Ant be switching onto Siakam? That makes no sense haha
He did switch earlier and yes Siakim didn’t have any issue scoring over Ant
I didn’t watch the game but based on their positioning, it almost looks like ant and Kuminga were expecting them to run a specific play
I think JK wanted Ant to flare out so there’s no mismatch inside. Siakim was bodying him from heading out.
It’s a nice heads up play. But zero communication.
There was an earlier series where Ant did switch to Siakim and he basically owned Ant.
More imo. I don’t think Kuminga was sleeping. He was just covering 1 player when he was supposed to cover 2 players I guess
Just depends on what the strategy was agreed upon.
It looked like man coverage with Rudy following Zubac to the lower block.
Maybe it was in the scouting report but Ant wasn’t really in the right spot to contain Pascal if it was indeed JK’s assignment to roll out to the corner lol.
Kuminga taking the blame for Ant sleeping
You mean Anthony Edwards sleeping on defense?
Nah that was on ANT. He didn’t guard his man
Why did nesmith sink so deep to cover Melo when they had 2 on him already
Because if Melo passed to Gobert there’s only one person on him and that’s Nembhard. If a guy can make a 180 pass one handed to a trail man then GG go next.
Steve Kerr is OP
The fact this is the fastest I’ve ever seen this Minnesota team play makes me so happy, bc my lord was our transition game just so bad for the last two years. Melo is just opening up great looks for everybody, excited for this year.
Knicks fan and I’m excited to watch them this year. Was skeptical about how it would go with those two but so far it’s nice and could unlock Edwards.
Personalities wise always thought they would get along I never questioned that, and game wise they compliment each other so I always thought it would work well.
All the wolves need now is Melo and ant to find a way to be engaged defensively and they’d be legit contenders but without that I think they just fold immediately to OKC or the spurs
I could see a world where they do a complete 180 on their defensive mindsets but i also see a world where they’re sleeping on defense in the playoffs lol
There’s no question they will be engaged defensively in the playoffs so the spurs thunder thing isn’t a worry. It’s more dropping winnable regular season games.
You also don’t want Melo to be too engaged or he starts fouling on every possession.
And honestly his biggest issue has always been bad technique, more so than lack of engagement.
Defensively i think we’ll be fine the biggest question is what do we get from kumniga. It would be great if he could contribute at a high level but i hope his inconsistency goes down this year and he’s on more games than off.
Finals preview
Dude looks amazing
delete this.
That was Anthony’s man not kuminga so that’s on Anthony for falling asleep
Wolves offense is going to be crazy this year, but I also expect a lot of moments like this on defense.
Has
Timbereolves just forgot about one of the best shooters in the league, that’s crazy
Woof ant.
2 out of the 3 leagues best pass pgs ?
Not at all Kuminga’s guard. You could edit the post for clarity, OP.
Happens all the time when somebody has a rep for being great at something. Hali’s a genuinely excellent passer, so some commentators feel like they have to push that point even on passes it’s not really warranted.
I’ve heard commentary gush about Steph Curry’s range and shooting skills when he takes an open catch and shoot 26 footer, or Giannis’ finishing after hitting a semi-contested layup on an out of position defender four inches shorter than him, shit like that. They’re great at it, so you gotta point it out even when they’re doing things that a bunch of other guys can also easily do.
Ya forreal, thats as basic of a read as it gets. You’ll be hard pressed to ever find an NBA shooter that open in the corner without it being due to a drive and kick with the defender collapsing in help. Absolutely atrocious D by the TWolves there.
i don’t think “read” is the right word. If you replace the word read with pass, i think he’s 100% right about this being a pass that Hali is uniquely good at executing.
That’s just a high school state champion, NCAA undefeated champion, NBA champion, and Olympic gold medalist saying that the pass from half court that went across the floor to the corner was a good read.
What does he know, redditor?
[deleted]
You’re right. It’s more likely that a redditor knows more hoops than one of the most decorated hoopers in history filling air commentating on the game. My bad.
I feel like the Shaqs and Melos and Gils and even Millers of the world have shown that being a god-tier baller is not at all the same thing as knowing ball.
he wasn’t Ant’s guy?
Wow dude was literally guarding air edit : I am blind in edwards guarding air
That was Edwards who was guarding air. Kuminga had his back against Siakam the whole time.
Ya you right me b
Both teams playing great
