Luke is a backup rim protector. He’s not great at it but he’s good for a backup.
Looney is not a rim protector, neither is mamu. They have other roles, but rim protector is not one of them. This will be a huge issue
He seems to be slotted into a utility front court role and largely taking over some playmaking responsibilities when Luka sits. Lakers obviously are missing a true backup center but presumably kessler is eating 2⁄3 of the center minutes. Goal for now is just to survive those 16 minutes against the 2nd units with mamu/looney

I was going to ask if he has to play backup center or can he slide over to PF which would be better for him. Or does he have concrete feet and won’t be able to guard any mobile forwards??
JJ said he would play backup 4 and 5 minutes. Looney is strictly backup 5 but probably not against all matchups.

they’re going to pair him with a 4 that can defend/block shots, so it ends up being a wash. Theoretically Thiero, Williams, or Kessler will always be playing next to him. But yeah, it would be nice to have a true shot blocker at the backup C spot

Mamu is great for offense and regular season. Tons of energy and effort.
Playoffs he struggles a ton. He’s a great heater off the bench but lakers can’t just rely on him for rim protection.

I always thought he was amazing on the raptors and didn’t understand why he didn’t play more. I assume defense? He would be sick playing next to Jokic, his feel for the game, vision and ability to score at all 3 levels just seems so elite. Is he a streaky player?
