Him punching teammates in practice would have been a much bigger deal

He would be more careful when cheating on his wife like every other athlete on the planet

One of the players he ran off his teams with aggression would have leaked vids that would’ve tanked his image.

Cheating, gambling, etc.

He would’ve exposed in 6 months

Oh yeah, and this age of sports media where everyone is trying to smear NBA players to build their own brand he wouldn’t have gotten endlessly glazed for what are common moves today.

Jordan’s wife would be 20% of a teams cap space.

Given how craptastic his initial teams were, I think people would have given him slack for the Celtics series’. His second best player was maybe old Orlando Woolridge and Oakley. And against one of the GOAT teams at the time too. I think the Bulls would have been blamed for not building a better team around him though.

The Pistons I think he would have been viewed kinda like Luka today. Godly stats, team not yet good enough to win. Some blame on him, but overall, he was again up against the 2x champs so it wouldn’t have been that bad I would think. There would be a LOT of rumors though, ESPN would be floating trade ideas nonstop.

Disagree, the media would be glazing Jordan like crazy if he played now.

No it wouldn’t…did losing all those times in the finals/playoffs hurt LeBron?

It took him 7 years to win a title. People still get grace for going 5 years now without making the playoffs.

You’re all idiots

this is meaningless, go help your community or sth

Normal people don’t care that Wemby lost.

We just think he looked like a massive asshole that whole series.

What did they do to Wemby? He got critizised for not really showing up in the finals and in the heat of the moment took a lot of flack (after also being confident/boisterous himself). Now he is fine.

it’s just basketball, who cares?

Idk Wemby and Spurs probably had the biggest choke job in NBA finals, idc if they are young , they play profesional basketball since kindergarten

Yeah Jordan isn’t pulling that off in this era. The topic is if Jordan played in this era. Not the era he played in.

Okay? I know people like to make jokes about how he treats kids that approach him like shit over a pic or autograph but if you actually had footage of him telling them to fuck off. Or if he dropped F bombs when talking about Gays and it was caught on a hot mic, or if people saw him out cheating on his wife, trust me.. his reputation is taking a major hit.

Sorry I’m not understanding your point here.

Yeah, that’s not happening. Social media has eyes and ears everywhere. He’ll get caught. Just like Kevin Spacey. Just like Harvey Weinstein. Just like Jeremy Piven. Etc

Talent has to fit. Do you really think Jordan, LeBron and Kareem had the greatest work ethics in NBA history?

Jordan would be super successful because his skills are still very valuable today but you can’t assume that the shooting typical of the best modern players would develop because of work ethic. Hand eye coordination caps shooting development… otherwise Russell Westbrook would’ve become a great shooter. Jordan would be great. Whether he’d be as great is definitely a real question

I don’t disagree with you, but if he came into the league 10 years ago, he wouldn’t be the same player with the same impact.

The world is just too big now and attention is just not like it was pre internet connected world.

The question is, would he be the goat ? Would he be an elite 3 point shooter ? Anything below that and it’s worse than what he had for his time so he is right.

Right lol, as if the coaches did absolutely nothing to change up matchups.

Team were totally limited in terms of adjustment, I’m talking mostly about playoffs series were adjustment are damn important.

You can watch NBA finals during all 90’s and see that the starting 5 were always the same unless some injury forced a change.

Bench players had little chances to shine with rare exceptions and if a player was selected to guard a certain opponent, he would keep guarding him even if things didn’t worked the first or the second game.

You will watch teams playing the same way game after game, with little changes here and there. The coaches had limited options to use compared to modern basketball.

For youngsters must be crazy to watch power forwards and centers during the 90’s having all the space and time to work their opponent in 1vs1, while the other 8 players on the floor would mostly stand still and watch.

No wonder at some point the league had to put the 5 seconds back to the basket violation (mostly because of barkley) because too many players were free to just go in low post and work from there without doing a thing. Mark Jackson was used to dribble in low post for 10+ seconds every possession only to find the right pass. No one other than his direct opponent could bother him.

par the course for any jordan discussion. lebron fans ruined the discourse so bad over the last few years

It’s just the nature of sports that athletes get more skilled. The skill allows them to use their athleticism to its full potential. Jamal Murray has like 3 switch hands layups better than MJ’s iconic one.

he’d have an incredibly hard time adjusting to the significant increase in actions per possession. he would be lost.

that doesn’t matter though, it’s unfair to compare. he played/learned in his era and that’s why he would struggle in a completely different era. it’s not a knock against Jordan lol it’s just a fact. sorry.

The comment you replied to never stated he would struggle. Who are you arguing with?

I agree that he’d likely be as good or better player, but I seriously doubt he would manage even one threepeat, the current CBA makes that extraordinarily unlikely.

The CBA is basically designed to kill dynasties and there is so much goddamn talent in the league that there is zero margin for error. He may end up with three titles, but three in a row? Not likely unless he started his career on some deep team like OKC. There’s basically no other way he’d be able to replicate the “a top 10 player as my #2, a strong supporting cast and one of the best coaches ever” situation that led to those threepeat runs.

the amount of actions per possession is through the roof nowadays compared to Jordan’s era. I just don’t think those players could keep up with all the switching and stuff without taking a long time to adjust and re-learn the game.

You’re insane. Go watch some 80s and 90s ball. There’s a clip of the announcer going insane because Jordan did a behind the back dribble. FOH with players aren’t more skilled.

if he learned in this era, yes. I’m saying if you took prime MJ and just dropped him in a playoff game nowadays, he’d struggle

I think it’s hilarious anyone even tries to argue this. you think humans have been doing something for decades, funded it out the ass, made it insanely popular to attract the highest level of talent, and we haven’t improved whatsoever at it?

If Cam Thomas was put in 1989 he’s 1000% an All-Star.

that’s your response?

All of them would be all stars in the 90s.

No you see, only the things that make it easier to score would affect Jordan!

All the things that make it harder he’d overcome because of Space Jam magic.

If Jordan wants to average 50 in today’s game, he’ll average 50. Nobody today is stopping him lol.

Edit: Y’all, I’m not gonna argue with you. You just don’t know shit about basketball lol.

He averaged 37 and that’s with hand check and no fragrant fouls. If anyone can do 50 today, that’s MJ.

No they wouldn’t lol.

Just admit you don’t know ball and move on lol

Yeah, always confuses me when people try to act like MJ wouldn’t still be awesome if he played today. He’s one of the best mid range shooters and athletes of all time, even by modern standards. I don’t think he wins 6 chips, but he is making all NBA teams and averaging 30 a year. Just go back and watch film of 80s Jordan, he would be doing the exact same shit today, and everyone would love him.
