Out of all the ‘not gonna survive october’ rules, this is the most not gonna survive october of them all. I don’t recall seeing a single foul called for shoving a screener last year. I mean I’m sure I did, but it’s that none come to mind. Compared to the countless examples of flops, off-arm shoves, etc. that also make it into the not gonna survive october bucket.
The league really instituted an anti-flopping rule and then proceeded to never ever enforce it once.
Not true. They fined a few role players the first week. Then nothing else
To use a recent Lakers playoff game example
Ayton called for an offensive foul after Chet flew. JJ challenges & it’s overturned. So the refs completely ignore that Chet fooled them with flopping. It’s not like it’d change the results of that game or series, were they scared of giving the no Luka hobbled Lakers an extra free throw?
Are we just going to look at the unders on called flops for the season/playoffs?
That was the worst officiated playoff series I’ve ever seen.
I mentioned the refs should call a flop in those situations (where the challenge is overturned because it was) and was downvoted before.
Me watching that play: “It doesn’t look like anything to me.”
Edit: I guess people haven’t watched Westworld… Lol
I know Chet is a skinny piece of shit, but not skinny enough to not see hos ass flopping like a fish
reminds me of the nfl with PI being reviewable that one year lol
High school adopted it too. The first year it was a rule I was told that I was to practically never call it unless I wanted to deal with the drama that would ensue.
I don’t understand it.
Does it create the opposite problem where you just don’t call fouls on flopping shooters? Just let them get fouled?
They did for like a week and I remember Trae Young getting like no calls. Then they brought it back
Yeah what curry did here happens like twice a possession every possession the fuck lol
And of all the people to call it on, they call the shoving on the player who gets shoved most lmao
The one thing I’ll call out is that Curry does shove on screens a lot. A big part of that though is that opposing coaches teach their players to grab him (which should be called more) because they know he likes to spring open after screening.
With Curry it is just more obvious than most others because he is not as strong and so when he shoves he puts a lot of effort into it
I will never understand why all the refs seem to have agreed to fuck Curry over. They’re usually lenient with the smallest and most skilled players in the floor
Can’t wait to see Steph this season without all those hand marks on his shoulders. lol
I agree, but let’s also be fair and acknowledge that Steph also benefited from some very lenient officiating when it came to screens during the Warriors peak.
Literally every fuckin team does it. Get outta here with this “but muh warriors” bullshit
And? Just because something against the rules happens all the time doesn’t mean they should keep letting it go.
This is like your mechanic suggesting new floor mats when your car won’t start.
I suppose maybe it’s important, but god there are so many other problems to deal with first.
It’s not even the most problematic which is the screener shoving/moving on the defender
Wendell Carter Jr gets called for at least one moving screen a game
I actually do remember it being called in spurs games. Idk who or why, but someone shoved someone into a screen and then the screener got called for a foul. Might have been overturned.
out of all the calls to emphasize, this is the one that affects the league the least. like if they’re egregious they already get called and that’s good enough
They need to hire some “WELL AKSHUALLY” refs to catch all these rules throughout the season.
AI might actually be good at this, since it’s good at instruction following clearly defined rules like these.
It’s something it would be perfect at… or even finding the right camera angles quickly so they can make a determination fast. But no let’s use it where it makes no sense
If the league actually managed to crackdown on the wide variety of illegal screens in the NBA for a whole season(you even get nfl esque holdings), probably be the thing that changes offenses the most tbh
Spoiler they won’t
Spoiler they will in the preseason and maybe the first week or two, and then they’ll stop. Just like every league does with new “points of emphasis”
The warriors would not of been so dominant without the draymond illegal screens
[removed]
lol no way they’re calling that in the Finals
IIRC da finals were pretty well reffed tho aside from a few things in favor of the spurs
“few”
And by “ point of emphasis “ they mean- let’s call it for a few weeks and slowly go back to normal, and don’t even think about calling it anytime after Xmas.
I also love that all the “points of emphasis” are just rules that have existed forever, like the NBA’s big push for the season is they’re gonna enforce the rules of the game, how novel.
That’s why they are points of emphasis and not new rules
Oooh, they’re going to call it when Steph’s football tackled at the half court line now, right? Right?
This lol. He’s going to be grabbed and pushed on the perimeter.
Wish we could tie that bald Adam silverfish looking freak to a lie detector and make him answer why Steph is allowed to be physically abused with no whistle
Honestly I’d love to know the reason why. Clearly it happens and opposing teams publicly admit to strategizing around it, but why?
U got 4 rings get over it 😂
Because the Warriors ain’t the Lakers or Knickerbockers.
Nope
Was not one of the cornerstones of the Warriors dynasty “Illegal screens for Curry and Thompson”?
Lmao at these downvotes
they hated him because he told the truth smh
They hated him because he’s ignoring the actual argument with a red herring
That wasn’t the question. The question was why teams are allowed to foul Steph egregiously. Every team is allowed to set bad picks, that’s just the NBA today. And even if the warriors benefited from it, it doesn’t justify allowing Steph to get mauled on every possession.
Truth.
Finally we can get some fair calls on Curry. Guy always gets the whistle.
You cant tell me his unfair whistles doesn’t balance out the draymond illegal screens
I can and I will
Aren’t both of those things positives for GSW? What point are you making? Haha
Curry gets no calls. Warriors never get illegal screens called on them. Perfectly balanced as all things should be
All the step back travels and shoves and they call THIS? Man all these professional sports are just fake WWE and gambling.
Curry like “we calling that now”
Hot stove contact.
and of course, he barley even grazed him.
Call that shit for when they hold Curry 24⁄7 and he’d wreck the league.
Yeah bro the refs all unanimously decided to not give curry any calls!! Totally not just people having confirmation bias and running with this narrative
Man I’m open to changing my opinion, and I’m a wizards fan, but can you explain these?

I know these are just two clips but these feel like they sum it up when I watch steph play. In a vacuum these might not be much, but combined with some other players getting calls because their hand gets brushed on in the follow through is what makes no sense to me. How can a ref call the lighter shit and then not call the obvious ones? That inconsistency is what gets me. Hell, in that first one, even the other team is confused why their intentional fouls weren’t getting called lmao
If you need more convincing, you can read this study analyzing bias in NBA refs from 2015-2022, where Curry was one of the players they looked at. It was found that he actually had a slightly beneficial whistle
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10031197/
haha what’s funny is that I don’t really care about curry in particular, for me it’s more about the fact that there is officiating bias at all. if curry is getting a beneficial whistle then that’s garbage too. if refs aren’t calling the same game for everyone then IMO that’s absolutely awful for the product
appreciate the source though thanks!
You can find clips of inconsistent officiating for every player in the league, finite examples cannot be used to prove a general conclusion. People see Curry’s low free throw rate (because he shoots an extremely high volume of jumpers he’s obviously going to get fouled less) and conclude that he has a bad whistle. They will then subconsciously notice the instances in which he has a bad whistle more than when the calls are normal or in his favor. This explanation is significantly more likely than the idea that hundreds of NBA referees throughout Curry’s career have it out for him
man I want to agree with you (though I haven’t looked at free through rate so it’s not affecting me), but so let me ask you genuinely, do you think all players across the league are officiated exactly the same and that nobody ever gets calls that other players don’t get?
i’m asking seriously haha. it’s not so much about curry for me as it is about officiating consistency general
Cavs players publicly admit to strategizing around it.
Richard Jefferson saying that they were allowed to be more physical with him in the 2016 finals is not even remotely close to what you just implied. Obviously a higher degree of physicality is going to be allowed in the playoffs, and even more so in the finals.
If Steph gets called for this foul, then SGA fouls out in 5min every game for push offs, and Stephs defenders foul out in 5min for grabbing and holding him. Consistency or fuck off.
Let’s have it. Steph drops 40ppg sga 20
Steph is on defense in this clip. He’s pushing the person setting the screen, causing them to set an illegal screen.
I take it you’re talking about Steph pushing off on offense, which isn’t what’s happening here.
The real consistency they need to call when people are putting their hands on Curry when he’s off ball.
It’s just frustrating watching Curry get man handled all game and he ALWAYS gets called for stuff like this on defense.
Steph’s whistle is notoriously bad, but I think the game is in a good place when you can bump for position without holding or pushing.
That has always been a foul and should always be called.
Can’t wait for them to slow the game down calling this for 6 weeks and then never hearing of it again
The 3 weeks of the season where they actually call this shit is gonna be awesome.
This is a preseason special only. Enjoy it (or not) while it lasts.
More like point of emphasis for the preseason.
Good call
lol the nba rules are so fucking dumb.
Made a career out of this. Hope they call this more
good. he gets away with this constantly
2 weeks in, the refs will forget about this rule like they have other rules in past seasons.
Before everyone fights about the same comments over and over again.. we all understand it is a “foul”. It’s just not gonna actually get called and yes probably should always have been.. but this is just a savvy move that most get away with. Deal with it and move on
Someone post that compilation of Steph being 1st degree assaulted for 15 years straight with no calls being made.
But when it’s curry getting pushed and beat hugged they turn blind
I love a beat hug. It’s so rhythmic.
30 gonna avg 35 if the zebras actually call Shi
It is the year 2062, water is unavailable for 98% of the Earth’s population and Warriors fans are still crying about fouls on Curry.
There had to be some warriors coping intel hiding somewhere in the comments.
The Warriors set the most ridiculous moving screens to get Steph open for years. Let’s not pretend like they are victims there.
Ofc it’s a clippers fan crying
Ofc warrior fans are denying
What’s ur team?
Clipper land huh. It’s not a rivalry. Never was. Move on.
Yeah tell that to cry Paul
[deleted]
Bruh so salty. Not even a Warriors fan but it was more than balanced out by the lack of calls for Steph himself (who usually wasn’t the one doing the moving screens).
The few seasons he turned up the flopping in 2017 and 2018 he had record setting efficiency numbers, even more so than usual. He otherwise has never exaggerated contact and always been punished by the uncalled physicality of opponents
Scottie Barnes called for extending the arm push off, now this. You won’t see these called 2 weeks after the season starts. We see this every pre season
ONe of those things that will be called during the preseason then absolutely disappear once the regular season begins. They do this every year with rule changes then it goes back to normal when the season starts.
Tough move by Bronny to draw the foul
Not to be an ass, but can someone explain to me why two point of emphasis this year has been illegal screens and pushing a screener? Cause it seems like to me that these professional NBA referees should be able to determine what a legal screen versus illegal screen is, and that pushing someone setting a screen is not allowed so why the fuck does it need to be a point of emphasis when that’s been a rule since God knows when in the NBA
last season dudes were too comfortable doing a little shove at the small of the back during top of the key screens. I hope those are called as well.
No sir, I don’t like it
Defenders grab, Steph pushes. It evens out.
even as a Steph fan I’m ashamed to see this behavior from him. A truly disgusting act.
That’s the face of a man who loses 1-2 championships if this is called 10 years ago
I think this’ll make people want to flop more they’re touched by someone in foul trouble
The flops off screens drive me nuts. If a small player is screened by a big player, and the small player hip checks the big player and falls over, they call it an offensive moving screen every time, even if the big dude was just standing there.
It’s a mess.
Crazy that most of the points of emphasis favor the offense.
Warriors dynasty never happens without the illegal screens
Should be named after him
Good. Warriors have always set a shit-ton of illegal screens. Pissy Curry is mad he got caught, actual toddler move.
Bro did you really not watch the 5 second clip? The warriors are on defense
The NBA has a lot of problems rn but the thing that I hate the most is how the rules are written and consequently how they’re enforced. Feels like they’re not accounting for enough shit which leads to players finding holes in the book and exploiting the game, which results in unnatural basketball and refs not knowing wtf to do. Then they introduce bandaid rules to try and stop that unnatural behavior but in an attempt to make the game more physical, come playoff time they stop enforcing. Or they enforce inconsistently.
I’m not into conspiracies but sometimes I find it hard not to believe that they adjust their leniency according to the kind of agenda/narrative they’re trying to create. A good game can be decided by literally one point, and they always seem to bullshit with the rules.
Oh also shoving gambling ads down everybody’s throats nonstop is the most wildly despicable shit, so that’s another thing that sucks. Rant over lol
Warriors wouldn’t have won a single ring if they called illegal screens 12 years ago
“Wdym that’s a foul? My whole dynasty was built on that!”
Steph Curry moving screens have been a thing for more than a decade. I doubt they wait until he’s 39 to start enforcing it now
Does the NBA really need more fouls? I stopped watching 2 years ago because it was already unwatchable due to all the stoppages.
You stopped watching 2 whole years ago but still find this random clip with a few hundreds upvotes?
Yeah because the NBA still interests me and thus I follow this subreddit to see whats happening and what the results are. It’s not that deep
That’s a weak ass call tbh
