What’s with the lighting, why does it look foggy
Bro I went to this game there was definitely some fog it was annoying
that’s just the toxic dust plume from the great salt lake
I think it looks awesome. Like the games in the 80’s when everyone was smoking in the arena
Dude can really hoop, seems like a willing passer and shot creator, and his midrange game is nice. He can be the go-to option in the 4th, I like it
Both he and Keyonte have looked like really solid tough shot makers (against the nuggets defense)
hmm so we are making the shots “tough” you say 😏
Dude was born in 2007 I’m a failure
2007
I think you put a typo
Nope looked it up before typing it to make sure I’m not feeling like a failure for no reason
I’m sure you have other reasons to choose from!
I was already a failure in 2007 we are not the same
I graduated high school in 2007, so I consider that year I was not yet failing. Give it a few years into university…
I was 2 years old
Old ass looking 19 year old
I swear he looks like 39-year-old Jamal Crawford at times here
i was making runescape pk videos back in 2007 on YouTube what the fuck
So there are kids younger than LeBron’s children who are players in this league.
Alright.
Even you Darren Peterson! 🫵
We really going with “DP” for this guy eh?
Aside from that, looks like a dude who can get a bucket when you need it in the playoffs one day. I see some CJ McCollum in there
He himself said it’s preferred
“DP to the hole!”
DP dives to the hole and crams it in with force. Hard to stop a guy like that, when DP wants to get into the hole nobody can slow him down.
“DP slips inside. Oh! That’s gotta hurt. I hope his mom wasn’t watching.”
I like the nickname “Bucket Jones” he has had from a young age. It refers to his alter ego that gets buckets. For some reason it hasnt really caught on among fans yet though.
Oh, let’s not do “alter egos” for athletes. Already bad enough with “NINE”.
Mountain mamba and bucket jones
I’m not sure what was going on at Kansas but I’m glad this young man is in a real league now with professional trainers and sport doctors. No more weird creatine binges and hopefully the sky is the limit
Utah bouta be such a fun team to watch
The fact Darryn got put on a team with Key as his backcourt partner, and 2 former all stars with Jaren and Lauri, and with a lot of teammates who have potential with Ace, Flip, Collier, and Brice, along with having the Ainges being in the front office with picks galore is amazing for this league that a player like Darryn got thrown on a stacked team unlike a team like the Kings.
Darryn’s midrange translated to the league immediately. Once the 3 translates to the league, and a Key and Darryn backcourt will be difficult for any team to try and stop. Even if a team stops that backcourt, then they’d have to find a way to stop Lauri and Jaren
DP feels like a mini Shai tbh, insanely talented offensively.
Say it louder

The lineup with JJJ and Lauri with Nurkic as center feels janky tbh.Ace is looking really good tho. I would love to see Utah develop around Key, DP and Ace.Definitely a team to watch this season.
The lineup with JJJ and Lauri with Nurkic as center feels janky tbh.
Tbf on paper it makes sense. Lauri can play on the wing and just crash the boards aggressively on offense, JJJ works best alongside a big who will sit at the basket and just rebound, and Nurk is that. Nurk also has a serviceable outside shot which needs to be guarded, and is a decent passer.
Like, long term Nurk isn’t the answer at all, but age and injury concerns aside, he’s arguably a better fit for that frontcourt than Kessler was. Ceiling is obviously much higher with Walker, but for this season Nurk should be serviceable if healthy.
We will likely run out a good number of small ball lineups with JJJ at the 5 though, I think.
I have a feeling Jaxson Hayes will be the main starter at some point this season because JJJ, Lauri, and Nurk are going to get killed in transition by a fast team.
If DP can be a good defender (big ask for a rookie whose focus is on the offensive end), then JJJ at the 5 can make a lot of sense. Will Hardy has quite a bit of homework this season.
Rebounding will still be a problem with JJJ at 5. Ace is looking great in the paint so hopefully he can help there.
I really want to see the line up of Key, DP, Ace, Lauri and JJJ for extended minutes. That’s a really high ceiling 5.
I agree. It’s been two games so far, but to me the Jazz seem to have crashing the boards as a priority from everyone so I wonder if that’s where they are ultimately working towards or at the very least to close out games. Really high ceiling on paper for sure, I want to see it for an extended period as well.
Trip isn’t a liability in transition lol.
Just gotta do the most unethical tankjobs for like 5 seasons straight and you’ll end up with a ton of lottery picks
It was only four years, and only the last one was super unethical. Every team has done it.
Not to mention we weren’t even the most egregious that season
Oh well if it’s only 4 years then it’s fine /s
And in fact not every team did. The mavs for example did not, even though this is the last year they own their pick. They even beat 2 playoff teams (Lakers and Trailblazers) in the last few weeks of the season which made their chance for the #1 pick drop from 6th to 9th.
lol you sound mad that the Mavs didn’t tank.
We’ve tanked one time for a stretch of four years in the history of our franchise and have one of the winningest records out of all franchises but go off.
or just bench kyrie and luka to tank for lively getting fined by the nba in the process then trade luka for a pledge to receive the number 1 pick
Woah, why so defensive buddy? You’re right, the mavs tanked by sitting 2 players for 2 games. Thats not great, but totally not the same thing as tanking like 3 whole seasons by sitting everyone and playing a roster full of gleague players.
And about the Flagg thing: You wanna explain how that’s supposed to work in your mind? By the time the Luka trade happened the mavs were waaaaay out of the lottery. Unless Silver and Nico knew that BOTH AD and Kyrie would have season ending injuries this simply doesn’t make any sense. Now trading your franchise player who just brought you to the finals for a great prospect who might turn out to be good or might turn out to be a bust doesn’t make sense anyway.
Only idiots still believe in this conspiracy theory.
just to be clear the mavs were absolutely in contention for the play-in when very end of the season and only a 1⁄2 game behind OKC they purposely benched players to keep their pick which was owed to NY but top-10 protected. they ducked the play-in in april despite already having luka and kyrie on their roster for which they were fined $750,000.
so sitting 2 games was literally the deciding factor between play-in/playoff birth and cancun. a lot more unethical than you’re wanting it to sound imo.
Yeah teams are really looking for ways to stop JJJ and Lauri lmao
No doubt theres a lot of talent but I’m not convinced Bailey and Key are amazing fit next to him. Theres a lot of overlapping skill especially between DP and Key
His middy is king, but damn his 3 ball is not great
I think it’ll come around eventually, a lotta dudes take a while to adjust to NBA distances
Based on what? His 3 ball has been great since high school.
peterson and george will be a must watch backcourt this year
This kid is gonna be a star
Forever salty Jazz and Wiz got generational talent by blatantly tanking. While my Nets literally sucked donkey ass half team of rookies and get 6th pick
He might be the next kobe
I remember when OJ Mayo was the next Kobe
Yeha but his footwork and dude even has a nice ass post fade
dude even has a nice ass
I actually like the Mayo comparison stylistically. If he has a rookie year like Mayo did and doesn’t decline at all he’s gonna be great.
He’s not the next Kobe, he’s the first Darryn Peterson
oh go to bed
Whatever the opposite of “Mamba Mentality” is, that’s what Darryn has. No shot he loves the game and competition as much as Kobe. If he did he would play more than 10 minutes a game in college.
I mean kobe played 0 minutes in college /s
Who hurt you?
Can’t be a Mamba with 0 rapes per 36
I want to believe in him but he kinda reminds me of Jalen Green??? Can someone convince me? What am I missing genuine question
Taller, better frame, more of a midrange game, better defender. And just a higher IQ player.
higher IQ player
Tbf this isn’t a tall bar to clear
[deleted]
Mostly bbIQ and playstyle
Better defender and playmaker than Green
And a much better shooter. His shot mechanics are great.
As a prospect no way lol. Jalen Green was a legitimately good scoring prospect with great 3 level scoring tools who had other flaws, but revisionist history really gets to people since Green has massively underachieved. There was a reason he went 2nd in a really good draft.
Green averaged 18 PPG on 37 percent from 3 on 6 attempts a game in the G League, which uses a longer 3 point line than college. For context Peterson averaged 20 PPG on 38 percent from 3 on 7 attempts a game in college, from a shorter line. Definitely not much better and factoring in the longer line, I would actually say Green was better.
Peterson is a better defender and has better basketball iq and probably work ethic but no way was he a better scorer or a much better shooter like you say as a prospect.
You realize the level of prospect Peterson was is on another stratosphere than Green right? Peterson could have potentially been drafted before Cooper Flagg. That’s how good this draft is. Talking about not having a better jumper is one of the worst tasks I’ve ever seen. Even before the draft Peterson was being compared to Ray Allen, one of the greatest shooters of all time because of his mechanics. If you don’t understand shot mechanics and what makes a shooter great, I stI’ll can’t see how you can think that because his entire game is on another level. Green was always a project with elite upside — that he still hasn’t lived up to.
Not a horrible comp imo but I think Darryn is alr miles better off ball
Lmao hell no DP has a brain
I thought the same thing, he was not getting a lot of separation. Hope he’s got thick skin with that shot diet, nerds are gonna talk a lot of shit if he can’t get to the rim.
Jalen green has never looked this good before March in his NBA career lmao
Wow, there is a lot going on here. He looks so polished with the ball in his hands. It also feels rare to see a guy make so many mistakes in a highlight reel.
Jazz have a chance to make some noise this season. Playoffs might unravel as none of the big players have much track record with postseason success, but next year they might be giants.
MJ nickname as a rookie was Black Cat. The way DP moves, that fluid agility is something I really havent seen comparison . Kobe had some of it. DP has some too. VERY few players ever. I pray he can be healthy for my Jazz
I think he will be the next derozan. Likes the middie iso. Lacks athleticism. Should be a pretty good player but without athleticism or high level handles and body control like sga I dont see superstar in his future.
Hes young of course and could develop the handle and 3 pt shot better but he will never be a high level athlete like kobe
Saying next Derozan followed by “lack athleticism” makes me sad and I’m one of the biggest Demar detractors ever.
Agreed, my fellow DeRozan DeTractor. He was athletic, just never used it to his potential and refused to develop an outside game
This might be the worst scouting report in history well done
He has no top end burst. How much have you watched this kid. I watched every game last year as a kings fan looking at the lottery guys
His highlights will always be these super contested jumpers. Its basically his calling card
The Kings organization and their fans are known for their talent evaluation skills.
I don’t think fandom has anything to do with talent evaluation.
Lol yeah our fans usually pick the right draft picks. Our gms have been mentally defiicent
You mean the college season he had that he nursed injuries the whole time? So you’ve commented on a video of him, while showing a 6 min montage of athletic plays and body control, saying he has neither quality because you watched him at Kansas?
Show derozans highlights from this game I bet its very similiar shots. The tough midrange. That is what peterson is.
In high school completely healthy he dunked less than once per game. Do you think that signals what he is
He looks more like Shai than DeRozan. He is legit, and most likely going to have a great career.
Shai moves like jello. Dybantsa is the Shai comp
He’s always been a great three point shooter though? He’d do better getting to the rim more often and not settling but it’s weird to act like he doesn’t have a 3 ball and only shoots midrange
He shot 38.2% from 3 on 7 attempts per game at Kansas. And he shot it well at Prolific Prep too. People who say he doesn’t have an outside shot haven’t watched him play much.
They hated him because he told them the truth.
You’re right, I see a DeRozan-like career for him, which is not bad by any means. DeRozan was a multiple time All-Star after all, but he is not the next Kobe like some are saying.
