It’s believable because 60 Minutes (and other similar major news broadcasts) have their guests sign exclusivity agreements. The guest agrees to not do any competing interview before or around the air time of the 60 Minutes interview.

Wright should probably know that it’s not about being “locked in”, but about following an industry standard.

After watching them try to help the Clippers cover up literal cap circumvention, why would any play want to talk with ESPN?

It’s just great PR. And it’s a testament to Wembyana being talented and accomplished enough to already warrant appearing on a show that’s built its reputation on credibility, in 60 minutes.

It’s just Wemby building his brand with the more casual basketball fan audience. He’s such a uniquely talented player that will bring in a larger viewership audience than almost every other player in the league.

And if we’re keeping it a buck, he needs some good PR given his overall behaviour in the finals. He absolutely became more unlikeable to people who were neutral towards him before

French mime is the face the league was looking for actually

To my dying breath I will never understand how Skip and Rick Bayless are brothers. To the point that I watched Skip for years (not really by choice in those days) and it had never occurred to me they could be brothers, despite the obvious resemblance. Their vibes are just SO different it never crossed my mind lol.

I mean he’s probably tired of being asked about the Finals

Kid wants to benefit from the sausage and ignore how it gets made.

His insane obsession with the game reminds me of Kobe. I hope he wins one. Love the kids intensity and drive for the game.

He also seems to try really hard to give genuine answers to questions even if it is a “when did you stop beating your wife” type question. I guess more power to him but he could also just give canned answers and they would bother him less.

Yeah he’s a guy who wants to talk about interesting shit and not just “yo how do you think you performed” and “yo are you an MVP?”

It’s all toast. But at least 60 minutes—for now- still has some semblance of journalism flowing through its veins.

Anti semetic

How else is this place’s new golden boy supposed to get eternally glazed?!

Not going to happen. Wemby stans eat up stuff like this and think he’s sticking it to the man

I think the context of this was before media day. He probably was more selective over the summer except for a a 60 Minute segment. I’m sure GQ would’ve liked to have him for that profile they did of Castle and Harper.

context

On r/nba? We don’t do that here.

Read the headline, form your ironclad opinion and do not deviate from it under any circumstance.

The context of the article makes it seem like it’s the result of “locking in” and being focused. There’s undoubtedly more to it than that, but we can only speculate.

I can form my own opinion regardless of context, thank you

Pretty sure Disney owns 60 minutes. Also espn

That’s an old NAS quote from the song sly fox from like 2008

I do appreciate the 50 or so people that do the anonymous surveys that say x is the best player and y is the most overrated when they visit towns The Athletic had a reporter basec there

Such a small sample size that doesn’t mean anything and isn’t even a random sampling since they need to flag down visiting team players.

The responses are always fun even if they rarely mean anything

Don’t forget the ever pervasive image rebuild after a scandal. Late stage Kobe comes to mind

Reddit and a lot of internet discourse in a nutshell tbh…

This place is better during the regular season but it’s almost 75% trotting out the same unoriginal jokes for specific players and the occasional really cool story or nugget of basketball knowledge

What does Wemby’s interview schedule have to do with basketball?

The nba isn’t basketball anymore thanks to Adam Silver.

Its entertainment. Off court drama gets more attention here than someone breaking down a basketball play

It’s also full of miserable leftists who are seriously debating if this is “problematic” because they don’t like Bari Weiss, some one regular people don’t even know about

He don’t get no news on his Nokia that monks gave him

60 Minutes has had a sports spinoff for some time, so it could be that version. Durant first appeared on it

Sure. But I think going to a non-sports news entity is probably the point. And there aren’t too many of those.

I doubt Wemby and his team are keeping abreast of who owns 60 minutes. I know he has a thoughtful reputation, but you can’t be on top of everything.

60 minutes is still a massive platform.

we’re gonna assume he wasn’t briefed of who the fuck Bari Weiss is

Right. Have a nice sit-down with Bari Weiss in a studio Scott Pelley hasn’t been allowed in for months.

I’m out of the loop, what’s wrong with 60 minutes?

He still probably thinks 60 minutes is the most reputable news show and thinks that where he belongs…and doesn’t actually follow the news.

You think he’s going to be invited onto Face the Nation or CBS Sunday Morning?

Still better than 99 % of US media, and you know it

[removed]

99.9% of Redditors don’t read the articles we know this

Sitting down for an interview is not the same as taking questions.

“Wright’s comment appears to concern interviews, rather than routine media availability”

Read the article

I can’t believe the corny shit that gets upvoted here

Prestige

The only max player not recording a documentary.

Love his intense drive. Insane obsession like this reminds me of MJ and Kobe.

He’s still doing normal media time after games. I guess this is just saying he’s not doing any sit down interviews outside of that. It’s definitely strange.

Hes not refusing to do his typical media responsibilities. Just no exclusive interviews with anyone outside his usual availability that he’s contractually obligated to. So anyone upset at this is being weird, for sure.

Wembanmaga takes no prisoners

I think it’s talking about sit down interviews. Feels like engagement bait nonetheless.

I wish you were contractually obligated to read the fucking article

Only if he wins.

Much of your American way of life confuses me. But I understand your Ross Douthat. And I think he understands me.”

I think he’s overall genuine but he definitely knows what people want to hear/see.

Saying he’s lost sleep after losing on the biggest stage of his career and that he’s still feeling those emotions is over the top dramatic?

Or you’re just not eloquent and it makes you uncomfortable that someone who isn’t a native speaker has a better vocabulary than you lol

Just you wait for the random piece of him sitting in a park playing chess or drawing trees

ESPN and sports media probably dont want to admit he doesn’t want to talk to them so, “hes locked in.”

He can be both locked in and locking people out.

Those are not mutually exclusive

that’s how it goes. Superstar with little to no controversy, everyone loves him. Either actually does something bad/annoying/wins a championship and then everyone turns. Happened to Jokic. Happened to Giannis. Is just a matter of time.

It’s funny cause the lady who all the controversy is over votes left.

I feel 60 minutes is one of the most famous ones probably globally so he just wants that idkn

Bro he’s French. He thinks Democrats are right wing.

If you for one second think that Wemby is right wing, you should review every single statement he has made about politics to see how far off base that is. More likely he’s just not super in touch with who the ownership of 60 Minutes is, it’s a legacy program after all

He’s also a fan of Zohran Mandani. What’s your point?

Bari Weiss voted for Biden Romney and Clinton lol

He don’t got internet

Nah, just French

So ethical to chop Naz Reid in the throat and then not talk to any media outlets

[deleted]

I hope that he never wins a ring. It’s amazing how people have fallen for his act and can’t see that it’s obvious that he’s a douche bag.

I’m sure he’ll be devastated when he hears of this

No choice but to judge the 20 year old harshly for wanting to focus on playing the game!
