[SDNA] Euroleague’s shareholders have turned down the NBA’s offer to buy-out the competition and merge it with NBA Europe
The shareholders of the EuroLeague teams were almost unanimously opposed to the NBA’s proposal. Some called for renegotiation, but the current proposal was rejected unanimously.–
As expected, the EuroLeague rejected the NBA’s proposal. At the shareholders’ meeting in Como, Italy, the governing body was almost unanimously opposed to the NBA’s proposal.
In fact, those who would like to keep things as they are described the proposal as “unacceptable and colonialist,” while others called for an improved proposal. The bottom line, however, remains the same: the NBA’s proposal is not moving forward.
At the same time, some teams were opposed to the NBA leadership’s proposal, while the majority were categorically opposed [to any proposal].
It should be noted that, according to “Gazzetta dello Sport,” the NBA’s proposal to the EuroLeague has a specific deadline, which expires on October 6 (i.e., today), but there is also a key condition: the competition must remain in its current format.
Specifically, the NBA is reportedly asking that the plan to expand the EuroLeague to 24 teams and convert the clubs into franchises not move forward. The proposal concerns the competition’s current structure and its 13 shareholders, with no changes to the number of clubs or their status.
