[Injury] Ariel Hukporti goes down with a non-contact lower leg injury
not good at all, looked like an achilles injury
Something like that, he does a weird overstep backwards and he couldn’t land again on that foot.
Ya it’s that exact same zero step style backwards step that everyone has torn their Achilles on
And also a step that happens fifty times every game
Classic. Bet the pop was glorious/terrible
Why in the world would you say “glorious/terrible”? There is nothing glorious about a person tearing their Achilles
Because I think the sound was probably “large and impressive in size, grandeur, extent, or conception”, which Webster’s tells me is the definition of glorious. But I know people think glorious just means “really good”, so I added terrible so people wouldn’t think I’m just some weirdo who likes it when people get hurt.
Weird ass comment
Excuse me I didn’t say anything about his ass. If anything it’s a weird lower leg comment
These Eagles and Sixers injuries are killing me…
Yeah, one of the other replays, you can see the tell-tale ripple of the calf muscle.

lebron needs to start sending cryptic comms out about big man depth early this year
Ayton aint picking up
I wouldnt pick up if i was ayton either
Lebron could probably play center and be like the 9th best center in the nba
Bron got arthritis he’s not trying to do all that dirty work
He was about to have consistent minutes behind Embiid and he can be an impactful player, truly saddened by this news.
I was really fucking excited about him, his defense in the scrimmage was really exciting
Brother he was gonna start 30-40 games. Not just role player min
Yeah, I always liked Huk and hope he does well, even in Philly. Definite bummer.
“Behind” Embiid is very optimistic. He was likely going to be starting a lot of games.
Really sucks, he looked good in the scrimmage I was excited to see what he could do.
he can actually catch the ball and looked like he could pass it a little. Stuff that Adem Bona cannot do. Was looking forward to the backup center battle this really sucks for him.
All the hardwork and to tear your shit up doing some mundane shit like this…
Happy he got a big pay day first, but yeah this sucks. Whole season gone like that.
He didn’t, he’s on a one year 3.4m deal
That was double his career earnings
That’s a big payday man. You can live off that for life if you aren’t stupid.
I’m saying for nba money that’s not a bag it’s a vet min.
it was the hard work likely.
the hard work caused the accumulation that eventually led to the snap
a lot of theories that these guys might be doing PEDs that make the muscles stronger than the tendons can handle. there’s other theories its about cortisone injections, it weakens the connections and usually the injection is to treat a local issue so its double whammy . Another theory is its specifically tendon dehydration, and PEDs also apparently can play a factor in that
Hard work and modern basketball moves that increase injuries.
plus specializing in one sport from a single digit age leading to overuse of the same muscles and soft tissue over and over again
where was this said
My theory is just aau basketball, especially the stronger teams.
You have kids in aau today who play longer seasons than college basketball and every minute is high competition
Yea the tendons and ligaments gotta be strong to handle that extra added muscle.
Also a lot of negative steps lead to these injuries, gotta stop implementing that in the game
negative step is just the natural way to accelerate like that pretty hard to cut out
Maybe shorten it? The super long negative steps seem to be deadly
Same step back that everybody is getting caught with. Feel terrible for the guy.
For sure I immediately thought of Hali’s injury
Damn, he did the thing where they turn around and look to see who hit them. That’s always a bad sign…
For slight optimism people were saying Caleb Williams “turned around to look” and that turned out to be a hamstring strain
True, but that’s also a risk factor for Achilles injuries upon return. It weakens the kinetic chain, meaning the Achilles has to endure a higher load.
That sucks. Whole Knicks team looked devastated for him
Want our boy to get paid one day.
Did he not just get paid?
1 year contract
Ah damn. I’m surprised it wasn’t longer. Still, 3.5 million goes pretty far.
I’m still hoping it was nothing. Hukporti seems like such a good dude and poised to have a big year.
You can tell by how quickly all the knicks guys came over. Makes me sad.
Genuinely gutted. I wanted to see more Huk minutes even if it wasnt with us.
He’s only on a 1-year deal too
are we at the point the coefficient of friction of the soles of the shoes is to high? because some say it is, and the ones saying it are scientists, biomechanics and orthopedic researchers focused on sports think the material science of sticky sole rubber with more grip and computer designed ‘super’ cleats that grip real and synthetic turf more are are the cause of the increase in non contact injuries across all sports where added traction creates risk of leg injury
so athletes are choosing this risk to be more competitive, pushing their connective tissue to the breaking point in an arms race to be able to apply more leverage to cut harder and make winning plays, sports driven hyper evolution of the human athlete leaving anyone with lesser genetics as a casualty, but at some point material science moves beyond what any genetics can accommodate and athletes are just tearing themselves apart like ‘Major Kusanagi versus a tank hatch’ (google it, its cool AF).

I agree, last year broke my ankle playing soccer in nike cleats and bladed heel studs just got caught and torqued my ankle 90 deg and snapped both my tib and fib.
Sticking to conic studs after that
dude ouch, and I can relate, did the ankle sprain take longer to fully heal than the bones?
I broke my leg skating a pool like that once, spiral fracture up the tibia from falling while carving a corner, twisted so far it split the tibia lengthwise, crazy looking x-ray but the ankle sprain took months longer than the break to heal because of twisting it so far it was almost backwards for a second then the bone split
great now I feel kinda ill thinking about it, ugh that summer sucked, did that in like July and lost my job because of it, long time ago though ancient history
The shoes I bought last year were too grippy for the 1st month and it was really hard on my ankle tendons. Like, you want to have some give when you shoot out of movement or twist into a shot. Much nicer to have a few mm of foot slide than have the ankle eat it lol. I can’t imagine actually wanting to play with shoes that are that grippy.
some skateboarders actually leave the laces undone so their foot can twist out of the shoe if they fuck up, but their not competing in a contact sport its more like gymnastics its them against physics so they dont need to cut laterally to survive they just need the shoe to not grip too hard on a missed trick and take our their ankle or knee
I hate that I can’t read load-bearing without thinking AI and “because some are saying” without thinking Trump.
And I can’t read “load-bearing” without thinking about your mom.
bro… I dont even know what to say, I dont get the references, the second because I avoid hearing the voice of that person since it makes me angry as fuck when he lies, which is every time he opens his mouth
but im not an AI im to fucking stupid to be one for sure, ask any ex girlfriend
edit: oh duh, your talking about the link in the first reference I guess, its a technical article about a research paper its gonna sound dry as a bone but its 2016 so not AI unless the date is false. im not gonna be tinfoil hat about it like that seems rediculous to worry the article from 2016 is AI
I read somewhere that high top shoes are better than low top shoes in terms of preventing achilles injuries, idk how accurate this is
Probably because they restrict the complete flexion of the tendon. High tops cause a lot of upstream issues though, knees especially. They’re also bad for your ankles in many ways especially when you’re younger as they stop you training all the little ligaments and muscles that support ankle
and can actually make ankle injuries a lot worse. Happened to me for years until I switched to low tops.
There is nothing more cursed than a bench player suffering a career-altering injury in the preseason
Are you serious
Damn that sucks
Fuuuuuck
Gansey is gonna have to trade for a backup center now.
Is that Kristaps Porzingis music??
Is your idea to combine Embiid, Porzi and Huk into one healthy Frankenstein?
I think Embiid has a better chance of playing any given day than Porzingis, he has some kind of syndrome were he gets light headed and that’s scarier on the court with all the physicality, jumping and so.
I mean…
More than likely a torn achilles. Goddamn man. This may have been his first chance at big consistent minutes and then this happens in the first few minutes of preseason.
Achilles forsure
Iykyk
Fuck
Fuk
Fuck man not Huk 😭😭😭
They gotta start teaching athletes to stop with the negative step. Feel like that’s often the crux of these Achilles injuries.
i feel like it is, but its a culmination of loading over time not the single action that tears the ACL Achilles, because the motion itself and the load applied is not dramatic or large, its common but sometimes the Achilles tears and that is more from everything that happened over an amount of time that I am not sure, but suspect is like more than even the 1 game
micro tears adding up to a major rupture kind of thing
edit: Achilles! I meant the Achilles, sorry, ugh
I always get those mixed up not mistaking the body part but just subconsciously my own ACL injury makes me type it for some dumb reason, i think because it was the most dramatic injury I ever had with the most consequences
This is it right here
Idk how you just ban it, but you have to. It’s explicitly why almost every single one of these happpens, and any team or player saying otherwise is either lying or too dumb to know better.
I’m just spitballing here but I wonder if training to rotate that first step 90* could help? It still seems like an extreme angle to stress and possibly roll your ankle but maybe guys put less force on the step to compensate. I am not a sports doctor or physical therapist.
That’s not good. Pretty sure he’s already done an Achilles
He tore his left Achilles when he was 20, and this is now his right one
wow, didnt know that. Absolutely heart broken for him
Tore the other one before he was in the league.
meniscus tear too.
Shit he barely was moving too, probably a freak achilles 😢
was looking all around the floor for him on the knicks before i realized he’s on the sixers now
Fuck.
Hate to see this shit.
Dammit.
I hate this
Shit. Not the homie Huk
Nooo Huk 😢
Feel horrible for him and hope it’s not what it looks like. At least he more than doubled his career earnings this season. Should be in a great financial position the rest of his life.
Im at the game. He came back out in sweats and crutches, dapped everyone up and gave nick nurse a hug and then went back to the locker room.
He should have done the Jayson Tatum procedure where you get to the hospital immediately and get surgery as fast as possible before it starts swelling up.
Their center depth is not looking good. Embiid can’t be trusted to stay healthy
ugh please be a calf strain
Oh no it’s that same negative step motion as all those others :/
Damn that sucks. At least he got a chip with us.
That’s such a shame, he was at the very least gonna get good minutes to start the year.
Man that’s just heartbreaking
Damn. Prayers up my boy
Fuck dude
Basketball Gods
Damn that fucking sucks.
Just great
FUCK INJURIES 😭
That’s awful, at least he’ll be able to spend his recovery time giving Embiid advice on what it takes to be a championship caliber player
Never fun to see that, sucks.
Cursed
Oh man. Heal up Huk.
Out of all the negative step achilles tears, that one was probably the slightest one I’ve seen. Maybe its a partial tear(non doctor opinion)
That’s an Achilles… looked behind to see what him.. damn
Well, that’s fuckin’ stupid and shitty and dumb and shitty.
Was that light reflecting on the court like that or just the camera angle???
