MPJ feels iffy to me because he can be an unrestricted free agent next Summer.

If he refuses to extend with Brooklyn (or Brooklyn refuses to extend him) I think they might actually consider getting whatever they can for him rather than having him walk away for nothing in a Summer that has 7 other teams (ATL, LAC, GSW, MIL, SAC, MEM, CHI) with significant cap space.

He won’t go for pennies but I can’t see him getting fair value or an above-expectation return either.

I’m curious what his value is. He’s got a rare skillset as a stretch 5, but he’s also lost a step and posted career lows across the board with the Bucks last year.

If you want to be an optimist, you can blame that on not having a world-class point guard like he did with Hali. I think he’ll bounce back this year with Herro running the point and get some interested suitors by the deadline.

Add Ryan Rollins and AJ Green from the Bucks too.

But seriously, Hornets might actually really value Dennis. Every one seems to think that about Dennis but it makes more sense with the Hornets.

1. Charles Lee has already praised his leadership and experience. Sure, duh, who doesn’t get praised for this stuff in the preseason? But Lee is very adamant about that stuff. Last year, EVERYONE thought we’d be cutting Pat Connaughton and keeping Spencer Dinwiddie. All offseason, all you heard was him talk about the importance of leaders on the team. We ended up keeping Pat.

2. He has that connection, to some extent, with our two German rookies. Being able to connect with people does matter and I think Dennis can do that.

Raps shouldn’t extend RJ, hurts all flexibility in case they want to make a big trade or improve the team in any way this season, you already know RJ wants to stay, there is no reason to rush and extend

The daft reason…. The NBA salary cap. Locking down the only real trade chip (good player on expiring deal) to help move the needle during this 3 year Kawhi & Scottie window would be insane

no way, knicks will be trying to compete while brunson is on the roster. unless kat can be flipped for a really good center from a team thats also trying to compete, its not happening. theres no reason for us to solve somebody else’s center problem when we got our own center problem.

Because once you extend him, you can’t use him in a trade. I think if he makes it past the deadline, it’s far more likely he gets extended/signed to a new contract. You might ask why would you throw him into a trade? Because he has neutral to positive value and the rest of the tradable contracts we have are either core pieces (Kawhi, Scottie, CMB) or negative value contracts (IQ, Poltl)

Crazy that Barrett’s contract seemed like a disaster when he first got there from the Knicks a few years ago since his offense was pretty inefficient and now it’s seen as undervalued now because he improved a bunch

Lauri actually being on a big contract now kinda killed that rumor. He was a lot more tradeable when he was relatively cheap.

I don’t know if anyone wants Paolo at that price though.

PF that needs to take a boat load of shots and isn’t amazing at doing it from outside the paint is not very desirable right now.

Feels like the archetype everyone wants is 3 and D wing and he’s not very good on the 3.
