As per basketball reference, DeRozan has spent at least 1% of his minutes playing either of the 5 positions at varying points in his career. Though his career averages don’t list him as playing PG, he has played 1% as a PG in ²⁰¹⁰⁄₁₁ season and the ¹³⁄₁₄ season. He played C 8% of the time during the ²¹⁄₂₂ season.

Really shocking that DeRozan who was effectively a full-time shooting guard got to play all 5 positions.

I don’t remember him running out at the 5

I think the Spurs did some micro-ball stuff with him at the 5. He definitely regularly played the 4 with them.

He was legit our best rim protector at one point. All our bigs were on dead legs.

Hey man don’t be talking shit on Joffrey Lauvergne

A price had to be paid to have all time rim protectors on either side of the timeline of that stint.

I don’t know the stats but it feels like a significant portion of his minutes since Chicago have been at the 4 but I just don’t ever remember seeing him at the 5. I’ve watched LeBron play all 5 positions

Probably some end of the game lineup where they went all free throw shooters for intentional fouls or some shit.

Who was watching him in ²¹⁄₂₂ and can shed some light on him playing Center? For 8% of the time that seems impossible…

Bulls only bigs were Vuc and occasional Tony Bradley minutes, so they played a bit of small ball. Caruso typically would guard the center, but DeRozan was tallest player on the court so probably gets automatically listed at C.

Yeah it’s just bball reference being stupid. Pretty sure it just goes by height unless a guy only plays that position.

Caruso was hurt for a bit in there too so legitimately he was the center with no one else out there for some minutes that year.

This is when I always feel the need to say that basketball positions aren’t real and don’t mean much

Centre? Didn’t realize that. The other positions don’t surprise me. He’s a versatile player.

These designations don’t mean you actually played the position. It’s based on height and probably the fact that he takes a lot of 2 pointers. It’s not based on actually watching the game and assigning a position based on what you actually do. I’m guessing these were lineups with somebody like Troy Brown Jr. also in them, who probably did a lot of the stuff you’d associate with a center.

Who was playing derozan at the 5? Hope they got fired

Academic-Screen4213

2 | 4 hours ago

At the tail end of his spurs career we had no decent centers and derozan having nice bounce was somehow one of our best rim protectors

it’s probably when Vooch was out cuz of covid and tony bradley must’ve been injured so

Some other players have as well, i think Andre Iguodala, Vince Carter, Jimmy Butler, Scottie Barnes, Gordon Hayward and Paul Pierce all have minutes spent at all 5 positions according to basketball reference

Lebron?

DeMar DeRozan has played every basketball position at some point in his career.
