Grant Hill turns 54 years old today.
I love this crossover. Not a ton of flash and just pure agility and selling on the fake. Super clean
My take too. Imagine crossing one of the greatest defenders of all time on body language alone.
As a Michigan kid growing up in the ‘90s, Grant Hill had one of the most replicable array of moves for an up-and-coming hooper (if you could accept you’d never have Grant’s athleticism and peak skill). I lifted my hesi-cross directly from Hill’s arsenal and it served me well.
In fact, both Hill & Latrell Sprewell were critical when it came to my game’s overall development. Before I latched onto their games, I was often hesitant and calculating in the open floor and it cost me. But at some point after watching enough Grant and Spree, it just sort of clicked, where I was like, “Oh, I should just attack unrelentingly until someone’s actually able to get in front of me.”
And honestly, that was a lot of Hill’s game when you go back (I think Grant’s even spoke on this a few times). Simple concepts employed exceptionally.
Grant Hill drinks Sprite!
Damn. Now I’m gonna have to buy some Sprite.
Thanks (in the best way) lol
I heard he wears the lightest shorts 🩳 allowed by the NBA.
Grant Hill is unfortunately going to be one of those guys that will go underappreciated as the years go on. Prior to his injuries, the guy was a legit star.
Even post injury he had some great years in Phoenix. He wasn’t as much of a highlight reel but he really just knew how to hoop and like you said it’s so underappreciated.
It was pretty much a miracle he was even playing at that point.
I love when he was on the Clippers, he threw down a dunk in the layup line and Blake and some others just seemed stunned
I strongly disagree with this. Any time he comes up everyone starts gushing about him and what could have been.
He was All-NBA 1st team 1x, and All-NBA 2nd team 3x from 1996 to 2000 before he had a rather severe injury that was misdiagnosed by the Magic. He played on that injury and he spent the rest of his prime dealing with surgeries and injuries.
I don’t know about you, but a guy who is consistently 1st or 2nd team NBA for a 4 year span is a star to me. I think he would have maintained that trajectory had he stayed healthy. Guys with 5+ All-NBA teams are hard to come by.
Lol. You just did what I said everyone does.
Another player said he was on track to be like top 10 all time.
I agree, though they were older they were still in their prime, he was schooling Scottie and MJ
Btw that was against the best wing defender ever
Best perimeter defender ever
Grant Hill was proto-LeBron with less playmaking/passing, but with smoother/tighter handles. One of the funnest players to watch ever, his game was so aesthetically pleasing.
He existed in like a halfway point between Pippen and LeBron. He was awesome. Even when he left the Pistons and went to the Magic, I still wanted to see him play well because his game was so incredibly smooth.
Grant Hill: The Missing Link
His poster on Mourning is one of the best ever
First ballot for the “All time what-if” team. I wonder what the trajectory of the NBA would have been if Hill had been healthy and at full-strength during the 2000’s.
Could his timeline have matched up with any of the 04 champ Pistons?
Yeah, it really would have depended upon how that T-Mac/Hill experiment went down in Orlando.
When the Magic flirted with Grant/T-Mac/Duncan, I think we’re talking about a huge shift in league history as we knew it. But I’m not sure even healthy Hill & T-Mac was going to be enough to alter too many paths.
Grant hill, Penny hardaway , derrick rose and Brandon roy. Ultimate what ifs.
I had his rookie card.
😂
My all-time favorite rookie. Ever.
On Grant Hill’s first date with Tamia, he forgot his wallet and Tamia had to pay.
A BS top 75 list have fans thinking Reggie Miller was better than this guy
Look, I love Grant Hill and his peak is better than Reggie’s, but as a full career, I think it’s pretty easily Reggie over Grant. More accomplishments, more signature moments, the most iconic player in his franchise history. Also, one of the first guys to bomb threes at a high volume.
Crazily enough even Hill’s aborted career had more accolades. 1x first team and 3x second team vs 3x third team.
Reggie should be in there. Grant didn’t have health in his career is the only reason why.
That’s wild. Feels like it wasn’t too long ago he was suited up for Phoenix. I love/hate getting old.
Grant “Over The” Hill
Grant hill drinks sprite
I still have a box of frosted mini wheats with his face on it from his rookie year still, i was in middle school at the time.
One of the best to ever do it.
he never gets that Achilles injury and people start talking about him like kobe
Ankle injury
Oldheads really say pippen was a better defender than kawhi🤦♂️
Kawhi is slower than scotttie, he’s gonna get left in the dust by prime Grant Hill.
This is all speaking to the ability of the offensive player. No one is going to stop prime grant Hill and he can make anyone look silly just like AI could
look at how slow that crossover is lmao kawhi would never fall for that shit
That crossover was fast as ever he’s 6 ft 8!
This is one simple move he has a variety of moves and all kinds of counters, you don’t know what’s coming.
This could happen to Kawhi multiple times a game against a prime Grant Hill. It’s just that Hill is that good
