the original was arguable more theatric than lopez
Make taunting non-tech again
FWIW all that head-snapping, arm-flailing bullshit is completely unnatural. If you ACTUALLY get hit or held while you’re trying to score, you’ll just stay tight and try to push through it, including if you get smacked on the head (the same is true on defense, you’ll just try to hold position). If the smack on the head is hard enough to knock you out, you’ll just fall down without moving your head or arms. If you get knocked off balance and are falling, you will put your arms down quickly to try to break your fall. Not flail them. The only times you will “flail” like is if you are standing on the edge of something and losing your balance. Which to my knowledge rarely occurs in sports.
Head-snapping and arm-flailing should be an automatic no-call or even a technical, regardless of what the other player does. They have nothing whatsoever to do with realistic human movement in any collision and are automatically unsportsmanlike actions.
The reaction of the player is what determines if it’s a foul. If you don’t let the contact affect your rhythm and shot motion then they won’t call it. The theatrics are heavily encouraged and any player not doing it isn’t doing everything available to win
If you just play honestly, then contact that doesn’t effect your rhythm doesn’t need to be called and the refs will handle it properly, if not that’s the league’s fault.
Theatrics make the players look weak and dishonest. It’s the kind of thing wrestling heels do to piss off the crowd, pretending they were hit or trying to fool the referee. The fans then want to see those heels lose to an actual honest and talented person, and if the heel wins too often the fans get annoyed and eventually start to leave.
All this would make sense if the refs were somehow perfect and caught each and every single foul! But reality is, they ain’t perfect, they miss fouls every game. And I’m not a fan of “flopping-type behavior” either, but some players wanting to sell some of these calls, it can make sense, no? It was an actual foul by Lopez too afterall.
The head-snapping and arm-flailing is really easy to no-call (or call a technical on) because it deliberately draws attention to itself. For the opposite intended reason.
It also involves subjectively assessing the player’s intent which is something the NBA rulebook overtly and explicitly avoids. This is why flopping rules have traditionally been intended to mostly be enforced post hoc and the recent trend of real-time enforcement is reserved for only the most egregious instances.
Oh it makes sense it’s just dorky shit that only gets called in the NBA. Playing the refs, not basketball
Foul on Lopez, tech on floppy floppy whiplash man. Problem solved
And they said they are addressing flopping this year 😂😂😂
They made a video explaining why head snapping is allowed. So absurd.
FML 🤦🏾♂️
Someone else on the Warriors flopped right before this, but Lopez seemed kinda pissed all night.
Old man is getting tired of all these kids flopping around
Guy probably wants to play basketball, not pretend basketball for the refs
Pissed cause he know he washed
The Shai’s special 😉.
The head snap is the luka special
