I hope they actually stick with this unlike most “points of emphasis.”
Same honestly…realistically I give it two weeks until they forget about it
They didn’t call it against Gainnis later in the quarter(maybe he didn’t extend his arm as much, but CMB was moved back a couple feet after Giannis rammed into him), so I don’t know how long it will stick.
They basically confirmed you are allowed to ram a dude as long as he doesn’t take a charge on it, you just cannot extend your arm doing it. I personally kinda hate it, but that’s how the league wants it officiated, I guess.
Giannis will always get away with his offensive fouls because he just runs straight into dudes and if they dont move he then flails and gets free throws.. or he will just elbow guys on post moves and get away with it.

This is one of those things they cabt allow superstar calls because its gonna be such bullshit of its inconsistent
Shai and Luka are cooked if they call this
Nah they have so many other moves and tricks they’ll be fine.
The guy who is really cooked is Jaylen Brown, this was his only move last year
Don’t let Jason Tatum avoid this slander he deserves it just as much as Brown.
Jaylen? And no he was killing from everywhere last year.
They’re gonna call it for the rest of the league except them
This guy knows ball
Shai yes, Luka doesn’t extend as much as Shai. He uses more shoulder push offs.
Shai legit extends his whole arm
Yeah if anything its SGA and Brunson
What? Shai rarely ever uses his full arm like Scottie did here and when he does it gets called lol, you guys are gonna be furious when he’s not getting called for the shoulder bumps and chicken wings
He’s the worst in the league.
You’re not allowed to defend SGA here.
Giannis does it every time he drives. Actually, a lot of guys do.
Those guys both have much deeper bags than just this
Nah. Neither use a full arm extension like this.
Sure they do lol
Shai especially. That’s his only way of getting separation
Nah only SGA.
Shai and absolutely Scottie would be cooked. This is Scottie’s game
Gilgeous
DC4L
You say that and I agree but it’s been a minute since I saw the “low gather-hook the defender arms-flail going up”. They either cut it out well enough or I haven’t seen much Harden/Trae/Shai lately
My favorites was the point of emphasis on flopping and not a single one was the main culprits haha.
Shai will be the opposite of most improved
Tbf shai only does it if he’s allowed to do it. Once the refs start calling it he generally stops doing it.
Shai doesnt extend his arm
If they do, tatum is fucked 💀
That’s wishcasting.
2 weeks into the regular season, they’ll forger about it.
While they’re at it, could they enforce some prior year points of emphasis too?
Happens every year. It won’t stick
They won’t. My bet is they threw darts for a team, and once that team passes the 10 game mark, all points of emphasis are points to ignore. I’m guessing the team they hit was the Hornets.
They need to call offensive violations more strictly. The steps back threes have gotten silly. The off arm stuff has gotten pretty bad. The SGA soft whistle stuff also needs to get better. An offensive player needs to be able to absorb some level of body contact without a whistle.
they called this one but not the earlier one on rj. this is going to lead to a bunch of complaints early on lol
Lowkey given how often a bunch of dudes like Tatum or Shai use it wonder if they stick with it lol
Jaylen Brown is in shambles right now.
Shai honestly does the bump thing that the point of emphasis video showed mcollum doing, hes pretty good at not extending his arm most of the time. In fact most elite scorers have become good at bot extending. I think the illegal screen emphasis will have a much bigger impact.
Just more proof the nephews in here don’t actually watch the games because neither Shai or Luka ever extend the full arm. Shai is the master at the chicken wing.
Shai does often but it doesn’t matter, a full extension is not require to be an offensive foul. The rule actually specifically states *any* extension to push, shove, or create illegal space against the defender. By the rulebook, the chicken wing is a foul 100% of the time.
I’m honestly cool with it, but the emphasis on the push-off instead of the reach is what bothers me. Even in this clip, I don’t think Scottie pushes off if his opponent doesn’t have his hands on his off arm
Tatum isn’t even that bad about it. It’s just a hater narrative.
lol
It’s just a fact. Look it up. JB is the one who needs to worry. Or at least he would have before he teamed up with LeBron.
Kobe would never
Yeah there was a missed call just as bad both before and after this call, within just a couple minutes either direction.
This is definitely something they need to call consistently this season. That is a clear cut offensive foul and it should always be called on the court. No star whistle for this one, ever.
Point of emphasis seems to only mean for the first 3 weeks then never again
Just wanna say I agree with the cynicism that the league will call it at the beginning in the season, and then maybe selectively in the playoffs after not calling it at all after the New Year.
Anybody remember flopping being a thing that would be called?
I mean they one again made it a point of emphasis this year. When you have to keep doing it maybe you just aren’t doing it
still remembered how they killed Poole’s game on the first three weeks then proceeds to forgot to call travel again
Every post or discussion I see about them calling offensive fouls just pisses me off more because what you’re saying is exactly what’s going to happen. I remember them saying they weren’t going to call the offensive player jumping into the defender a defensive foul anymore, they called Trae and a couple others for it within the first 2 weeks , then by month 2 every PG13 and his dog was just back to getting offenders in the air and jumping into them.
76ers offense just imploded
RIP Jaylen Brown’s go to move lol
LeBron been using the forearm shiver for like two decades
He and Tatum. Solid move for Celts only keeping one.
Nah, it’s another thing Embiid can flop over.
Agreed but I have an even bigger issue with when the offensive player veers into and truck sticks the defensive player but somehow it’s a defensive foul
The Jordan push off is dead
We’ll see when regular season starts
Not when it starts I wanna see if this continues at the end and during post season lol
My man Jaylen Brown screwed lol
JB, SGA, Giannis, Embiid, Paolo. All these dudes gotta watch themselves foe the first 3weeks of the season
DNP - Rules Unfair
So this will last 3 weeks
Looking forward to this being inconsistently called all year
Exactly SGA ain’t calling it for non of that shit
Gonna be a long season for Brunson
Wonder how SGA breaks his habit with this emphasis.
He’s already working on his face up game by the looks of training camp and the turnaround jumper while getting grabbed off ball he is like a chameleon he adapts his game to what is and isn’t allowed
He’s definitely some type of small lizard I agree
Lol we all know itll only be called first 2 weeks then snooze
Get ready to never see this ever again
That just is a foul, how is that a point of emphasis thing. If anything they need to go the extra mile and call the non-extension push offs as well.
Seriously. The push off rule has always been: once the elbow bends and the forearm extends, it should be called. Guys have gotten away with some sure, bit also some have been called push offs that were more just fend offs without the extension. Refs aren’t great. More news at 10
If it’s not called on SGA, Luka, Brunson and other top guys then they aren’t serious about it
Those 3 guys are all excellent at not extending their arm though. That’s what makes the impossible to defend. They initiate contact with a bump but do a good job of not fully extending
Literally I see this comment so much and I’m like bro do you guys not realize it’s full arm extension, something these guys don’t do that much
It’s like brons whole bag now lol
Yeahhhhhh I mean it’s a step in the right direction but like it’s gonna be inconsistent as all hell
This will be called for the first 15 games and then refs will stop calling it because it’s like holding
Who cares lol it’ll barely be called as we go into December
This won’t last past preseason
Two or three more games so they have footage to point saying “hey we did something!”, a nice back pat and then back to ref ball
If sga doesnt get 5 of those per game then the rule isn’t implemented well
This will be called a fair amount initially but just like everything else it will be back to normal my December at the latest
Will they do the same to Curry too?
Can’t wait to see this called for only some players for the first couple months of the season
JB about to play only the first half since he is the push off king
GOOD! So many offensive fouls and push offs lol.
I really wonder how Shai is going ot adapt his game if they keep this up
One of those calls that they’ll make for two weeks then drop it
Let Scottie plow through everyone
I’ll believe this “point of emphasis” when they call it on SGA and PG13%
SGA won’t get called for this ever
I can bet you by early January these calls will be forgotten by the refs.
Every season they introduce all these changes, they implement it during the preseason and early of the season. After that its like it didn’t exists.
Bryon Russell vindicated
I literally just watched this happen in the raps vs heat game… It resulted in the heat player getting to the line..
Remember when flopping was the emphasis of the season and it lasted 2 games?
Certain players will foul out in the first quarter if that’s the threshold of the push off
The pre-Thanksgiving ruleset
they won’t keep this up but it’d be really nice if it did. I’d bet scottie and julius randle get called for this more than the other superstars
It will be crazy 5 games where it will be called!!
I see this going two ways
they call this for about two weeks and then stop
they still don’t call it for players like SGA
I love how Klay didn’t need to sell the call for the refs to call it. That’s how it should be.
We’ll see how long this lasts. Such a spineless league
Devin Booker is going to have a rough year if they consistently call this
All the stars do this.
Why does it have to be a full extension of the arm to be an offensive foul? I can shove someone really far off without extending my arm fully. Letting the half extension shove off go is still a huge advantage to the offensive player. Just call shove offs as fouls.
Yannis was milliseconds away to block his ass
give it 10 games into regular season and it will be gone
I have a feeling guys are going to flop from little arm contact now
point of emphasis this *pre-season. We all know once regular season starts and the first couple games are boring foul filled, fan complaining matches, the nba will go back to making superstars.
calling it now this will increase flopping on defense
This is gonna get dicey
