There’s parity, but how often have they been in serious title talks? As great as he is offensively, they’ve only been a 50-win team a handful of times.
Even if this was more of the dynasty era, they just haven’t been that good to be in that category. That lone title in a weak run is going to do a lot of heavy lifting for Jokic’s legacy.
They took okc to 7 with MPJ on one arm and AG on one leg. They took wolves to 7 (even if I don’t wanna talk about that blown lead). They have absolutely been good enough to be in that category
Denver’s issue throughout has been injuries. They were in the WCF in the bubble, and looked like they were well on their way to a championship the next season with AG when Murray tore his ACL.
That pretty much killed the next two seasons, then they won the championship. The following year we lost key players, and ran into a Minnesota team built explicitly to beat us that’s been a bad matchup since. Two years ago we lost in 7 to OKC who won it all, and I have no doubt we’d have won the series if MPJ hadn’t hurt his shoulder.
Last season pretty much the entire team was seriously injured, and no one really looked right at the end of the season or in the playoffs. I think 21 or 22, we get at least one of Murray is healthy, and the same the last two years of we were healthy, but that’s how it goes. There’s a reason no team has won more than one championship in over a decade other than GS. The last 8 champions are different teams.
And he seems comfortable in the city with his family, that’s as if not more important than minor money differences or anything basketball related.

Denver itself is pretty meh, its a flat typical city dropped in the middle of a gorgeous state. Nice thing is you don’t have to go too far outside the city for some of the best scenery/outdoor activity in the country.
You’ll realize that Denver kinda sucks (still better than plenty of mid cities) but the mountain towns are pretty awesome.

Doesn’t Denver have cap issues? Jokic is obviously going to be getting max contracts until he retires and Jamal Murray is also getting paid. With the modern CBA paying out a couple of max or close to max level contracts leaves you with little room to pay higher end role players before going into second apron hell.

It won’t and waiting doesn’t mean more money. It changes the timing when he gets to guarantee the max, but the money won’t change per individual season. He is going to get the same amount next year whether he signs in the summer , or if he signed it in 2025. If he signed the extension last year, he would have been eligible to sign another extension in 2028.

Defense is a team stat first and foremost. It’s difficult to accurately measure defensive contributions of one player.
