“Wemby can think that way if he wants, he’s got sovereignty. But I’m sovereign too you know?”

Maybe if he ever transitions into porn

Slim Beam

Dude is way more rebar than a beam

Full regard

Yeah it sucks but it’s a tactic as old as time. Focus on the messenger not the message.

If players are gonna promote evil companies, it seems fair that they at least have to answer some awkward questions about it. I’m all for reporters asking these questions, and if a player feels uncomfortable answering them then they can simply choose to stop taking money from gambling companies

[deleted]

Lmaaaaoooooooo

There’s an 80% chances he’s going to clap back at you when he sees this lol

Bars holy shit

I wish I can give you an award.

I tried to block prescription ads. It doesn’t work

On the app or do you use browser

I applaud Wembys stance but I’m sure some nba players are looking on like “must be nice to be able to turn down sponsorships”

Yeah, just like LIV golf

Yeah but we all have to wear different hats in a functioning society, don’t we? Even presidents have family to answer to.

agreed. KD is the most similar dude to Ed Sheeran I can possibly think of.

(I actually do agree though)

At least Ed Sheeran doesn’t fund Israeli drones

Yes the push of normalizing gambling as the only means to escape the working class is material harm. The predatory business model is doing material harm and he chooses to profit from it. He makes enough on his nba check that he doesn’t need that sponsorship he chooses to do it. It’s not dissimilar to the same critique that could be made for athletes taking money from cigarette companies back in the day.

Yeah in partnership with FanDuel

Yeah his answer here is almost literally “I don’t care”.

“I’m not gonna tell other ppl what to do with their lives. Nor will the good folks at Heroin Inc. I’m just focused on playing meaningful basketball.”

Heroin is illegal lol. Gambling isn’t. Not remotely the same thing

Because sports betting is directly linked to the game they’re playing. They could literally bet against themselves or try to hit parleys or something and that has a direct impact on the competitive integrity of the specific sport they’re playing. So it’s almost a conflict of interest to promote sports betting as an athlete yourself

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I think there absolutely should be. Alcohol should obviously be legal, but I hate seeing so much advertising for it. If I were God-Emperor of the US I would keep alcohol perfectly legal for those over 21 but advertising for it would be illegal.

One other element is that alcohol is something you technically have to go out and purchase, so there’s more friction to cultivate the vice. Gambling is highly accessible on a person’s phone, (which everyone is on all the time nowadays), so promoting these gambling platforms, that are primarily accessed through a phone, feels particularly slimy.

Or snacks or fast food. This country has a much bigger obesity epidemic and food addiction epidemic than gambling addiction epidemic. Death toll is hell of a lot higher

There’s so much research on how destructive betting is. Suicide is the leading cause of death for people with a gambling disorder. Don’t compare a sugar addiction to betting.

I think gambling should be legal, but I don’t like the incessant advertising for it.

We know it is bad, in the sense that a majority of people lose money in the long run. People who really want to gamble can find ways to do so legally. But relentless advertising by extremely famous public figures will rope in more people, and destroy more lives, that otherwise would have been.

I think it should be like cigarettes; people know about cigarettes, we know they are bad for you. But you can still smoke em if you want to. But advertising for them is highly restricted and confined to certain areas/mediums, and this will undoubtedly spare many people from experiencing the harmful effects of smoking.

But you can still easily find and smoke cigarettes, if you want to.

False Equivalence (Faulty Comparison):

A false equivalence occurs when someone exaggerates the similarities between two completely different things to make them seem identical or comparable, while completely ignoring massive differences in their scale, nature, and impact.

The Flaw: While both heroin and sugar can trigger dopamine responses, cause health issues, and lead to dependency, their societal, psychological, and physiological impacts are vastly different in magnitude. Equating a highly lethal, immediate-overdose-risk narcotic with a dietary carbohydrate is a massive distortion of scale.

The Fallacy of Relative Privation:

It argues that because Problem A is not as severe as Problem B, Problem A does not deserve attention, resources, or moral outrage.

Example: “Why are we protesting local corporate wage theft when there are literally people living under authoritarian regimes abroad?”

Red Herring (Diversion):

A red herring is a tactic used to distract from the actual topic being discussed by introducing a separate, flashy, but ultimately irrelevant point.

The Flaw: The legality or regulation of sugar has absolutely no logical bearing on whether heroin should be regulated. Bringing up sugar completely derails a serious conversation about public health, addiction safety, and narcotics legislation.

Don’t forget all the alcohol sponsorships all these athletes have that nobody brings up. People wanna hate on LeBron’s poly market shit but nobody was mad when he made a tequila. Pretty sure Steph does wine. Nobody cared then. And that’s another of the most dangerous addictions

That’s seems like a false equivalency and I think you know it. Yes 2K pushed micro-transactions but they are also no where near as addictive as gambling. If you want to make the comparison you should bring up gacha games as that is way closer to gambling and I haven’t seen Wemby endorse those

Lmao not even a KD burner would be dumb enough to try comparing video games to sports gambling.

micro transactions are bad too but def not on the same level

That is different man. Nobody is spending their mortgage on video games.

Ha ha, massive false equivalence

r/im14andthisisdeep

Yeah, he’s KD and KD does whatever the fuck he wants (within legal reason). Listen, I’m not saying pushing sports gambling is right because my personal opinion is that it’s not. But I also don’t care what people do.

Reddit has this problem where everyone has to fall in line and I’m not even talking about like extreme social issues I’m just talking about anything in general. When people don’t fall in line with a typical “correct,” way of thinking (or have anything to say about it like KD here) there’s a sudden outrage lol

I mean it’s mostly a joke. KD has never been one to speak publicly about things that don’t affect him. I was just bringing it up to have a laugh.

It should be illegal within the sport.

Lmao

It’s not just Americans

Giannis is now American I guess

What country you from my man? Just curious

Not like that notable American and gambling investor, Giannis.

Big facts

Are you genuinely dumb?

As an American, this is accurate.

It’s a major topic in his industry (professional sports), not some random local political issue

He took a stance by endorsing gambling.

He’s sponsored by that shit. He cares and he’s complicit.

How can you NOT care about it though? It’s so prevalent in the sport.

So does KD

Absolutely. LeBron as well. He was a role model to me growing up but now I just see a humanity detached billionaire in his eyes. It’s very disappointing and one of the biggest problems with America isn’t just its attraction for oppressive people and systems, but the public’s general ignorance towards problems in their face.

KD does as well.

Lots of children out there dawg haha

That shit was disappointing as hell.

Oh I was asking a question lol. I’ll see if I can find it.

Edit: KD invested in Skydio, a drone company used for mass surveillance and 3D mapping. After the Oct 7th attack, Israel purchased Skydio drones to facilitate their bombardment of Gaza.

When the KD burner gate leaked, getoffmydickerson said “If they need drones, we got you.” When asked by reporters he said he “didnt come here to talk twitter nonsense”

Just google “Kevin Durant invested in drones”. The company is apparently called Skydio and they are used by the IDF

Anybody with an index fund is invested in ,“bad”

lmaoooo good luck getting these babies to see that logic

The fake outrage behind this player ad stuff is hilarious lmao
