Why would they discipline him? Coaches and ownership dictated that they tank, not Bub. Also, he said something that we all already knew.

This is a common misconception. Truth is Bub has the Wizards front office by the balls. All bow down to the dictator.

Dude, I was so glad to see a player finally admit to tanking. Wiz and Jazz were egregiously good at tanking. Feel bad for the guys who had their minutes limited/DNP (champagnie)

Haunting_Test_5523

I mean Will Hardy has also pretty much admitted the Jazz were tanking

ExtremelyPetty | LAL

Now that there is no incentive to tank, he’s saving face. “I’m not a shit coach, I was losing on purpose.”

Haunting_Test_5523

3 | 4 hours ago

His admission was when a reporter asked him if he considered putting in Markannen and JJJ for the 4th quarter of a close game and he said he didn’t. That’s not saving face with his coaching skills it’s him basically admitting he’s been directed to sit stars to lose games

Champaigne getting benched is probably the most aggressive tanking that happened last year. It sucks because im not sure how much playing time he’ll get this year.

There’s no way George, Sarr, Trae at least were all needing to miss that much time.

Like he said it’s no secret. The commissioner himself admits it and is taking steps to try and prevent it. So yeah it’s a bad look but everybody knows what time it is.

Anybody remember when the Jazz started a 6’7 G League forward at Center? Or Bez Mbeng. Until Mbeng started to actually be good. That was the end for him.

when europeans complain about how american leagues openly embrace losing on purpose, i can’t help but agree. there has to be a better way to distribute talent that doesn’t require teams to be rewarded for essentially throwing games

(yes, i know about the changes to the lottery. i don’t think they’ll do that much, but i’d love to be wrong)

OtherwiseElk3037 | ORL

Imagine the backlash if they did. Unless it’s hateful commentary no sports league should discipline players for what they say, the market should do it for them.

ShamPain413

I mean the NBA PA would go ballistic. They just got done protecting Kawhi’s millions, which were clearly fraudulently earned, zero chance they’d let a player take the fall for a team’s uncompetitive strategy.

Trae played a few games. And who is surprised ad didn’t? I mean obviously they tanked, but I think there is a reason they didn’t get fined while other teams did.

violagoyf | WAS

Honestly, I think the Wizards decided to run a tanking masterclass because of what happened the year prior.

The Jazz blatantly out-tanked the much worse Wizards, which led to them picking Ace Bailey at 5 and the Wizards at 6.

So last year, the Wizards started the tanking nonsense early. They traded and sat every guy who was contributing to wins.

But they also did it by the book. They traded useful rotation pieces for a hurt Trae and told him to sit and heal up. A few more useful guys went out the door for AD, D’Angelo Russell (who they told to not report), and tank commander Jaden Hardy.

Kyshawn? Fought injuries. So did Bilal, Tre Johnson, Sarr, and basically everyone else on the roster besides Bub. They seemed like legit injuries, too, though I’m sure timetables were extended as much as they could do reasonably.

So they legit had nobody but G-leaguers and Will Riley for stretches of the end of the season despite a bunch of up-and-coming guys and two recent all-stars on the roster.

It was sad and I’m glad it’s over. But it’s hard to argue that it wasn’t worth it.

AdFeeling6573 | SAC

1 | 4 hours ago

My bad. Trae played like 2 or 3 games and then they sat his ass right back down. And AD probably could have played.

AdFeeling6573 | SAC

They didn’t get fined because they were actually pretty bad. The Jazz had arguably a playoff caliber roster with JJJ, Markannen, and Keyonte

They didn’t punish the Jazz for sitting their best players in the 4th quarter of close games.

They did punish the Jazz actually

ILoveTheKnicks69

I can see why he said that. His stats haven’t looked good for his couple years in the league and the wizards have done max tanking shenanigans with pulling players randomly and not playing serious basketball. If he’s better than his stats indicate he can prove it this year and prove his point

FlameyFlame | POR

the “punishment” was already rolled out unilaterally, it’s the new lottery system. No point in doubling down, we all knew what was up.

“I don’t think it would take anything that we’re not already saying: being ourselves,” Carrington answered. “Like we’re nice, we’re talented, we’re gifted individuals, all of us. We’re very talented. We just haven’t been told yet to ‘go be the best version of yourself.’”

When Kramsky asked Carrington what he meant, Carrington said, “We’ve all, in a way, been held back just because, like you said, we were trying to get AJ Dybantsa. That’s no secret. That’s no secret. But now, no one has handcuffs. Everyone’s shackles-free. So that alone is already a conversation starter. But then you put that on top of the coaching, on top of the vets that we have. That’s a playoff team, and that’s gonna happen. … Then, when it does happen, it’ll happen for a long time.”
