they’ve got more money than god. i’m really curious how much this deal cost

ShotgunStyles | SAC

100 | 6 hours ago

The budget for the game is rumored to be over $1 billion. It doesn’t cost much to re-theme a stadium for 1 night. The naming rights to a stadium is pretty cheap too considering Miami’s used to be named after a crypto scam.

chribtopher [OP] | NOP

40 | 6 hours ago

sure, but to rename the team, stadium, AND jerseys? i don’t think that’s ever been done before. at least in american sports

Tbf, this is a great partnership from the heats perspective too. If they sell anything related to the game, they may make bank. May not have cost Rockstar as much as you think

They have 3 waves of money coming in. The Console release this year, PC release next year, and the biggest money generator GTA Online next year also.

Barnyard_Rich | DET

10 | 5 hours ago

This is what blows my mind, GTA online is an insane cash cow. I waited to play it until 2025 when I learned about invite only lobbies and just how much content had been added. I played for about one year completely free to play, got my fill, and haven’t booted it up since. It’s absolutely possible, and I would say easy, to get access to the top 50 most useful guns, cars and properties completely free. And yet they just rake in the cash.

I can’t even imagine what VI will do revenue wise.

They say the budget might have been as much as $3 billion, which is roughly the GDP of Greenland.

And analysts estimate it’s likely to bring in between $3 billion and $5 billion opening week.

itgoesdownandup

3 | 4 hours ago

Yeah, even the lowest guesses are still in the billions. Wild. I don’t even really care all that much about GTA. It just gets to the point where the huge mass of money dumped into something makes it intriguing.

There is a very funny irony to this. GTA 3 was like the poster boy for the violent video game moral panic and in like 25 years its now being directly integrated into marketing for the family friendly NBA.

The NBA was uncomfortable with promoting the chicken wings of a strip joint. I wonder what they would have been comfortable with if Magic City had Rockstar money.
