GTA 6 is going to be the best selling piece of media this decade. It’s going to make more money than we can fathom something making. PS5 and XBOX sales have been going up in the lead up to it.

It’s been pretty popular online for people not interested in GTA to say everyone should buy a used PS5 in February once all the GTA only players sell their consoles.

$10 million a week isn’t even that much for a GaaS. Video games are just massive, especially mobile gatcha games and especially games that are popular in China.

ArseneLupinIV

4 | 5 hours ago

Yeah half the Gamescom trailers were like gacha or Chinese games or both. It’s where the money is headed in gaming. Expect most announcement days to be like one Western AAAA teaser, one Japanese AAA teaser, a bunch of indie cozy games/roguelikes, several Gacha update promos, and like a handful of crazy looking big budget Chinese games that are like ‘what if other big game but with an Eastern aesthetic’.

Upper_Address_2778

1 | 6 hours ago

There are rumored to be over 30 million pre orders for GTA. Out of curiosity, what’s magic city’s max capacity?

Whats more likely, a parent buying their underage kid a copy of GTA, or paying for their 17 y/o kids onlyfans chats?

What makes the family unit stronger, playing video games with your kids, or taking them to get a lemon pepper lap dance?

GTA is being advertised on the largest platforms on the planet with a reach of basically the entire planet. Can you advertise strip clubs on Netflix?

Do you see what I’m doing yet?

onelegonedream | MEM

1 | 4 hours ago

I don’t really understand what you are doing tbh because I obviously understand the reason why, doesn’t make it less interesting that a graphic and realistic game filled with murder, drug usage and strip clubs can do a sponsor with a team but when a team does a sponsorship with an actual strip club that’s a problem.

How old are you? Because I remember when it was a international scandal that you could have sex in GTA SA and the game was pulled from shelves. GTA 4 had numerous lawsuits and had endless controversy about it’s content.

Do you think it’s more likely a kid asks to go to a strip club or a kid asks to buy GTA? I’d argue this sponsorship is gonna do more “harm” than the strip club one would due to that accessibility and proliferation of games.

I just find it hilarious that 20 years later after the hot coffee mod the NBA can just do a collaboration with them and seemingly get no pushback despite the increase in graphics and realism making the content worse

ShotgunStyles | SAC

I think a lot of companies could do something like this. It’s just a matter of “Why would we do something like this?”

Like, with all the money being dumped into AI, it’s entirely financially feasible for AI companies to rebrand everything to shill for AI. The Miami ChatGPTs vs the Milwaukee Claudes. But it’d be a waste of money so it fails the “Why” test.

GTA V is the most profitable entertainment product of all time.

Although OpenAI and Anthropic have eye-popping revenue numbers, they’re not yet profitable (Anthropic says they are, but they’re doing some funny accounting stuff).

And it makes sense to partner with another entertainment IP that a large percentage of the NBA’s fanbase is interested in

NBA probably realised they’d make bank from this game because many people will tune in just to see the Vice City theme. And I’d imagine the jerseys will sell like hotcakes, theres already merch too.

jor301 | CHI

idk id argue GTA is technically worse than magic city, thats just a strip club. GTA has multiple strip clubs plus the added murder, violence, sex, nudity etc.

zelena_salata | DEN

12 | 7 hours ago

Thinking the stripper likes you doesnt mean real strip clubs are more fictitious than a video game

Upper_Address_2778

5 | 6 hours ago

One is a fictional video game made by over 2500 people worldwide that has an optional strip club in it that has you can’t even buy if you can’t get past the age gated parameters up to 21 years depending on the country

The other is an actual strip club with actual tits, being invited to an event that has and will always be considered an event that’s good and fun for the whole family. and they happen to serve hot wings and some rappers like going there. ALSO THE HAWKS OWNERS WIFE WAS MAKING A DOCUMENTARY ON THEM IT WAS A MELANIA THE MOVIE TIER SCAM

So yeah I guess at the end of the day they are similar “think about the kids” issues but at face value what sounds worse, a strip club getting an NBA night or a video game that is all but guaranteed to be the best selling entertainment media product in human history getting an NBA night

DSOTMAnimals | SEA

5 | 7 hours ago

Right. But that doesn’t mean it’s expensive. Rockstar will be paying for the court and signage. It’s a marketing transaction.

It’s one day. There is no way R* is paying 500,000,000 for marketing for one day, in one city, for one game in a sport that isn’t football.

A Super Bowl ad that will be seen by 200,000,000 people is less than 10,000,000
