i cant believe ur coach didnt start trapping until 70 lol

With all due respect I actually can believe it

Until a few years ago the Heat had the record for largest point differential in a loss, most franchises have some humiliating record theyd like to forget.

sam amick that works for the athletic came out with an article saying exactly that lol. there were definitely a bunch of ppl saying that

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7107107/2026/03/11/bam-adebayo-83-points-kobe-bryant-heat-nba/?source=emp_shared_article&unlocked_article_code=1.SVA.4CJM.VwbeD0Lpm7_D

Exactly this. No one cares he passed 81. It’s the trash ass way he got there.

Only after the Wizards were doing the exact same thing.

I feel like for a lot of supposed “controversies” like this, there are always like one or two idiots on twitter who said the controversial thing (in this case, that Bam should have stopped at 81), and then there is a hugely disproportionate wave of backlash to those statements because they’re inflammatory and generate clicks. Before long, it’s considered a “discourse” even though 99% of people are on one side, and 1% of people are on the other. It’s beyond stupid and I can’t believe people fall for it.

I did see some say he should have stopped at 81 and they were mostly mocked. For the fouling intentionally thing you do have a point there but you need to watch the game, unless I am misremembering, the Wizards were doing everything to stop him from scoring. They weren’t playing the game either, they were leaving guys open to send 3 guys on Bam at times. Then fouling Heat players so they’d get FTs not Bam. He would get it without the fouling if the Wizards magically forgot that Bam was going for 81 and they played the game normally

Score the second most*

The record is 100 by wilt.

Yeah this is cope from Bam to not address the real problem people have with that game. It was ugly af and 24 of his last 40 points were free throws.

People don’t watch basketball to count stats, they watch for entertainment and a good deal of those 83 points were not entertaining to watch at all. He still did it and can’t take it away from him but it definitely will never get the same respect as Kobe’s 81 or a good deal of 70+ point performances.

Yeah — this whole “stop at 81 out of respect for Kobe” thing is a total strawman. Yes there were indeed a handful of idiotic Kobe fans saying that, but framing it as a common opinion is a lie.

Lots of weirdly defensive ppl have acted like if you’re clowning on Bam’s performance, you must a a Kobe fan. Which is totally untrue. I personally thought the performance was kind of a joke bc of how the 4th quarter went. And yet, I am not a Kobe fan; and I truly don’t give a shit about that criminal’s record.

So this strawman Kobe thing is just not real. The actual commonplace opinion was that Bam’s 4th quarter was kind of a joke bc of the intentional fouling… nothing deeper than that.

Yes, it’s lame but Wilt wouldn’t have gotten 100 without the exact same kind of garbage

exactly

Why are they calling the Heat out though? That’s how Wilt got his. It als evens out with the Wizards constantly fouling so he didn’t score.

Kobe would call him a bitch if he had stopped at 81. Bam did what he should have done.

Tell us you didnt watch the game without saying you didnt watch

There was A LOT of that. Especially by Kobe fans (including some ex-NBA players), who considered it disrespectful.

Just weird as hell

Which is also a dumb take. 83 points is 83 points

If you never saw that then you didnt read the threads, Heat did nothing wrong anyway, Sizards got embarrassed and started pulling non basketball gimmicks inti trying to stop him so they responded in kind

The intentionally fouling that only happened after the Wizards starting intentionally fouling non-Bam heat players to send them to the line instead? And on the other end deliberately using all 24 of the shot clock? The Wizards were the ones who abandoned any semblance of basketball strategy and shifted it to “how can we make sure anything else besides Bam getting 81 happens” and then acted high and mighty about morality after the fact

Fake shock face along with gratuitous amounts of AI.

I wanna know why this became a thing in videos. Like who does this appeal to?

I unsubscribe from anyone who does that.

Made it 10 seconds into the video and I’m out. Hell naw can’t do dis.

He who smelt it VS he who dealt it

I can’t decide which I hate more, the thumbnail or the fact that this is a topic of conversation people care this much about.

The culture is cooked

Thank you I was wondering what it was called 😂

Soy face

They’re doing it ironically, they know it looks stupid. It’s become an inside joke among YouTubers.

Kobe fans acting Kobe would want Bam to stop.

Dude would’ve felt insulted if Bam didn’t pass his record despite having the chance to do so.

Mamba mentality never takes no for an answer🗣

/thread

Let’s also remember that the Raptors team Kobe scored 81 on was a scrub team too. Hilarious how Bam got shit for putting up 83 on a terrible Wizards team because Kobe didn’t put up 81 on the Jordan Bulls lol

I see what you did there…

He didn’t like that word no.

Just get the rebound!

Kobe had 60 points on 50 field goal attempts in his last NBA game

TBF, even the Raptors team Kobe scored 81 against was a bottom two defense in the NBA that season.

I think the problem Kobe fans have with Bam is that he wasn’t known for being an elite scorer before that game. I doubt they’d care if Luka, KD, SGA, or Booker broke his record.

Kobe wasn’t known for stopping when told ‘No’.

Subtle but clever double meaning here

Kobe fans don’t wanna be like Kobe, they just wanna glaze him to the max

For the record the worst raptors squad to ever take the court.

This joke is going severely underappreciated

not stoping when asked was very on brand for the so called black mamba lmao

He didn’t stop when the woman he raped told him to. No way he would’ve stopped on something like basketball

Noice

My thing is… why did Bam stop? Why not keep going like Kobe would’ve done?

He sure didn’t stop when told to in Colorado

He did.  He scored 62 in 3 quarters against the mavs and sat out the 4th quarter because it was a blowout. Another redditor who doesn’t know his history.

Except they also know he earned it on his own not by the entire team helping him try to break a record otherwise he would have gone for Wilt’s 100…. Clown asses

i’m not clicking on it because it will indubitably destroy my Youtube suggested videos algorithm. i’ll click on every dogshit streamable video tho

These guys’ videos show up in my feed a lot and I have no idea why they got popular, they’re so bland

Can’t believe I had to scroll this far

Bro 💀

Never seen this holy shit lol

Most pearl clutching about a silver medal since the worst people you know talking about the civil war

And why shouldn’t he break it? That’s the question they can’t answer. There is zero reason for him not to break it. Does Kobe even have a single career record?

Some if them with full seriousness claim thay Wilts 100 doesnt count fir various bs reasons as well. Any cherry picking they have to do to put thier guy in a pedestal.

Kobe fans/stans are the worst of any sports fan

It’s disrespectful to Kobe that we’re still playing basketball after he died. It should have all ended with him.

Kobe Stans have always been low iq

Note how I said Kobe Stan’s, not Kobe fans

Does it actually? Maybe I’m not tapped into the internet enough but I have only ever seen memes about it and would assume anyone saying he should have stopped was memeing

People really focus on the dumbest part. It’s like KD asking to be respected for his 2 rings after what he did. If you do it stupidly, you’re not gonna get respect. You do it without hacking or being annoying about it with intentional fouls, no respect.

Interesting you use pole vaulting as a comparison when Mondo Duplantis has been beating his own record by the minimum amount for the last several years so he can milk his sponsorship deal.

That order

I was at home watching the game. Before the game I started said Bam’s going to score 72. Idk what made me say that

Yea the people saying “he should’ve stopped at 81!” were a very small minority.

I’ve pretty much never seen the Kobe stans people complain about, I guess they hang out in Instagram and YouTube comment sections and we’re supposed to be surprised nuanced takes aren’t being shared there?

They would complain about how Wilt got the record, too, but they don’t fucking know. Who cares. Fuck those losers.

I mean its still pretty impressive and might not be done again for awhile

Tatum would have sent a text to Kobes old cell line to explaon it and poste dit to social media as well.

No record was broken lol

[deleted]

What record?

There’s a reason you sit your starters in garbage time and start running the clock in the final quarters in any sport. It is low level bull shit to stat pad like that.

Only children can’t grasp the concept of sportsmanship and integrity in the game

Btw your coach ripped a rookie a new asshole and apologized to the opposing team’s coach after he threw down a windmill self lob at the end of the game in garbage time and that was far less embarrassing than what the heat were doing

Mamba mentality. He should have played for Cornell tbh

First things first, Rest in peace, Uncle Kobe.

Please explain when a double team or triple team is fair? I thought you do that to the person with the hot hand?

Kobes game was close until like a minute or two left. Lakers needed Kobe to do that.

no it wasnt, raptors subbed out their starters when kobe less than 78 and had given up the game. kobe stayed in to beat out wilts 78

His team was intentionally fouling to give Bam more possessions WHILE THEY WERE WINNING.

happened twice for 4 pts and only due to the wizards purposely fouling other heat players as soon as they touched the ball and triple teaming full court

Yes, why can’t he just score all those points the right way, against a quality opponent with no one feeding him the ball, like Kobe and Wilt? Both of those guys just accidentally scored over 80 with no assistance whatsoever.

Quickly what was the record of the raptors team that Kobe scored 81 on?

You are the complete opposite of an elite ball knower.

actively ignoring the part where bam told his teammates to stop is hilarious

Aww is someone mad the rapist doesn’t have the record anymore
