“Ricky Bobby. I will let you go if you say…‘I like crepes.’”

Maybe we’ve been misunderstanding his beef with OKC this whole time. It’s not Chet, it’s not SGA, it’s Ajay Mitchel and his obvious endorsement of Belgian Waffles!!

Unforgivable if he does

I had a whole mess of crepes this morning

Lebron making 90+ M and still sponsoring Polymarket and Draft Kings.

Kareem will always be my goat 🐐

To be fair injuries are a crazy thing

if you consider that lifestyle creep is a very real thing, it’s still a pretty impressive decision that he’s making regardless of the millions on millions he’s already made

as a pretty high earner myself (though not a 9 figure one like wemby) I still feel like I’m extremely particular about every bit of that money, and if I was offered even a decent amount more, I imagine I wouldn’t hesitate to capitalize on it

If he toned down the arrogance he’d be one of the easiest players in the league to root for

He leaned into playing the heel in the Finals and the young guys on the Spurs were unnecessarily (but understandably) arrogant. They would have had a better chance of winning if they had toned it down and had more perspective, which they hopefully (for Spurs fans) will this year. Like, even Castle’s comments even this past month about how easy Brunson is guard came off as silly.

There’s zero shot you think he’s talking about Zeke Nnjaji and not LeBron and Giannis lol

It is players on the max that are the promoting gambling i.e Lebron for Polymarket, Giannis for Kalshi. And those companies will not be paying Latrell Sprewell to promote them because no one cares about Latrell Sprewell, but will gladly pay for Lebron, Steph, Wemby, Giannis type players

Jokic gets a pass, as usual.

Nah, that guy should his soul to Kawhi through shell companies

[deleted]

I mean remember the time he said that bringing awareness to the fact that the CCP had concentration camps was “hurting” him?

Everything except re-signing in Cleveland

Doubt it lol

They all absolutely know someone whos lives got destroyed by gambling, its not something thats super uncommon in lower income Black communities unfortunately.

Lower income communities in general.

Willing to bet most of these players know someone who’s life was destroyed by alcohol and it doesn’t stop them from promoting that

they complain gamblers threaten them and their family members but turn around and endorse them for money. they don’t give a single fuck who’s lives it ruins

I really doubt that lol

Not really, people are selfish, evil and do not care

Wasn’t LeBrons father like an alcoholic who left them and he literally has brand deals with Henny etc

I think they both know terry rozier

My pookie bear LeGOAT would never do something bad!!!! /s

most people just think if ur life destroyed by gambling its their individual choice

LeBron is always trying to make more bread. He probably wants to surpass Jordan in richest basketball player just by how much he milked his billionaire status when he got it

They drove a dump truck full of money to his house! What was he supposed to do?

GA already made plenty to ensure that even without Kalshi. Justifying his actions like that is wild

I see it like cigarettes tbh, they had their glory day and it’s still common to smoke(Heck, I do it myself), but western society at least is not allowing to be advertised anymore, even if it’s a money printer.

There will be a time that gambling will suffer from this as well, though it’ll take a while, sadly.

corporations own the news and politics thats why

SCOTUS struck down the federal law against sports betting in 2018.

All it took was one state allowing sports gambling and it not being an immediate disaster for the flood gates to open. States saw dollar signs going out the window. You go to Wyoming you see tons of sketchy borderline illegal slot machine/ vape shop/ delta 9 stores. It’s been legal 4 years lmao.

And it’s starting younger and younger too. Thank Mr Beast for that one. He’s got kids ripping candy bars with literal slot machine reels on the inside and entering paid sweepstakes for years by the time they hit 15.

Money, mostly.

Lebron is the definition of PR trained and has never shown that much emotion in that way on or off the court except for that 2016 finals

I know I’m biased but it wasn’t just that it was dirty and stupid, it was the laughing/mocking that really made him look bad. He’s young so I think he’ll continue maturing, but I don’t want to see a generational player like Wemby behaving like Draymond.

I mean there was the Brunson shove, and the Alvarado shove, and intentionally sticking his foot under Brunson while he was in the air, and the Naz Reid flagrant, and one or two others. Those plays tend to rub fans of opposing teams the wrong way, especially when they don’t get called.

I’ve realized in my old age that I’m a born hater 😂

Dirty play is a spectrum. Idt he’s all that dirty 🤷🏻‍♂️

Some of y’all will really take an overblown narrative and make it your reality for life huh?

Doesn’t bother me either way.

Greed has no limits

Studies show that gambling addiction and the downstream effect on people’s personal finance is way up, so the huge amount of advertising the industry spends is having an impact.

If they were going to do it they’d do it anyway kinda brushes aside that people get addicted to gambling. It’s not like someone going to McDonald’s once in awhile.

I endorse the “athletes are not role models” idea and roll my eyes at people who have a parasocial relationship with their favorite celebrity, but it’s still a bummer to see someone you like shilling for an industry that’s harming people in your community. I wouldn’t change my rooting interests over something like this, but I can’t say it wouldn’t bother me at all.

you don’t understand how advertising works, huh

Being anti-gambling publicly is kind of a good thing.

Probably a lot. That’s why they’re paying Lebron $15m/year.

Aside from his massive reach and the earned PR this generates, it also does a lot for normalizing gambling/prediction markets as a whole when one of the most popular well-liked athletes in the world puts his name behind it.

It’s just lack of education. We’re taught to internalize failures related to addiction in the US. Our streets are full of addicts and it’s completely normalized.

If that gets people to love the game more… fuck it

I do agree and your flair is relevant as the home of some of the best anti-heroes in NBA history. I love a good league villain. I also just don’t see Wemby that way at all. That could certainly change but I thought the hate this past playoffs was weird and didn’t even feel organic.

I think the plays he was called dirty for these past playoffs were borderline at most. So yeah I just disagree with the premise of your comment and this overall narrative in general. If he starts pulling really bad shit I will obviously change my mind. But the 26 playoffs didn’t do that for me personally, and partially to your point, I mainly saw/heard MIN/OKC/NYK fans complaining about it.

They’d actually have to get past the sixers to experience that lmao

The ‘ethical basketball’ shit was definitely corny i’ll give you that. At the end of the day he committed hard fouls that he got called for and people were mainly up in arms because they wanted him suspended for playoff games. The league doesn’t do that shit lightly against contending teams and IMO things played out how they should have. I just can’t jump to the dirty label until it becomes a legitimate pattern of behavior, which I don’t rule out as a possibility. But not true to me as I stand here today.

You think France is more decadent and nihilistic than the US?

Strict regarding what? We let 18 year olds buy 0dte options from their phone.

Yeah in otherwords, the mob got that shit pushed through

Hey now, I got nothing but love for y’all but I didn’t say I’d move there

Little more research says there’s some misinformation regarding that statement

One is not like the other lmaooo

Steph opposed the building of 16 3 story multi family units that would look straight into his home. He requested tall fences and trees in his backyard if the project went ahead.

Wemby committed dirty plays in the heat of competition when he had a target on his back for being the best player on the court

Get the stick out of your ass
