When keeping it real goes wrong

Joe Dumars or Pat Riley would have named names - and cussed them out

He kept it real and then gave a nothing burger answer to the question. Wat was the point of keeping it real lol

he got baited into answering a loaded question.

PR speak should have been “this isn’t difficult. Jalen is doing exactly what a player should do, maximize his earnings.”

What’s disrespectful is pooping your pants on live TV and expecting your value to retain the same. Don’t hire this guy detroit, bad attitude and probably going to half ass it after this anyway.

>Just get me out here I would tell my agent

Just like Duren, you’re a moron. $200 million contract isn’t disrespectful no matter how you cut it

Ausar made all Defensive 1st team and finished 3rd in DPoY, and was actually a key player in the playoffs. Duren can feel disrespected but not cause of Ausars contract.

It’s his job to stay in shape and play well. It’s fcking immature to think a weight clause is disrespectful when they offering you $200 million!

This Detroit slander is horribly dated.

Wow. Needing to be < 300lbs is pretty lenient even for a 6’6 guy.

He was 18 when he joined the league, people naturally fill out as they get into a real adult. Duren needs to handle that

Why would JJ Redick cause so much problems?

Out of all the guesses, yours is easily the worst. JJ Fucking Reddick doesn’t have the pull to cause the problems he’s illustrating nor was he on the team that long

Reddick was only on the team for 3 years. Ingram is more likely.

Wasnt David Griffin te GM at the time tho? I might be misremembering

Was he there for 5 years?

Doubt it. Redick was a roleplayer who didn’t stay long and didn’t need a weight clause.

yup, the best thing he could have said was “Duren isn’t being difficult, he’s doing what he thinks is best for his career and his family. The Pistons are doing what we believe is best for our team and longevity. Sometimes those don’t align, sometimes they do. We’ll keep working on a deal.”

boom. took me 2 seconds.

As a Pistons fan, I find it humorous how fans just give their trust to a new front office. This guy accomplished nothing in New Orleans. Zero playoff appearances despite having some pretty great teams on paper. Refused to trade Zion at his peak value.

How they handled Duren’s contract and free agency was their first real test. No more “make moves on the margins” plays. And they’ve failed. They couldn’t find a second high level ball handler for Cade, and this Duren situation is ridiculous. I understand Duren is in that Tobias Harris in Philly situation where you’re screwed if you overpay and you’re screwed if you let them walk. But they could have conducted a sign and trade months ago.

Zion’s extension did include a weight clause among other clauses. Not surprising he tried the same gimmick with Duren. Only difference is that Duren is built like he fought Troy while Zion is built like he ate Troy.

Not trading Zion was a decision that hasn’t aged well. If Duren doesn’t live up to his contract, people will scrutinize not accepting a sign-and-trade.

Help your team not be complete ass

Trade him while he still had value!

Ingram would probably be the other option, which I could see. Neither player was really outwardly disgruntled though, so this is a weird comment.

It’s much more likely to be Brandon Ingram

[deleted]

He spent two months with AD, not five years, so almost certainly not.

No shit guy read between the lines

You’re right, he said completely different words

It is. And I think a good chunk of the fanbase at this point would just rather he be gone than pay him that much. You’re gonna give this man 200 mil to get booed by his own teams’ fans? Why would you want to be on the hook for five years to someone who might not even try hard again for you because they’re so pissed off.

He wasn’t performing as well as guys like B-Ball Paul. It was a tough look for Duren.

and people are in the comments defending him extorting the team for more than he is worth, its like I’m taking crazy pills. 200mil is an absurd overpay for a guy with such a limited bag whose scoring gets cut in half if you take away the lob. He is not creative and he’s only competitive when it’s easy.

So you’re saying he’s as good as a former #1 pick?!?  Detroit needs to sign this guy! /s

It’s 200 million full guaranteed and I think it’s beyond what is reasonable to do. Given his play off performance.

If he signs the contract and is a turnstile for a second playoff in a row no one is going to want that contact so you’re basically stuck with him.

It is insane. I’m a Pistons fan and I cannot wrap my mind around 5 years 200 mil, let alone him not accepting it. It’s so much more than he’s worth. He is looking like a guy who will never give max effort, even in the playoffs. His offense has been terrible in 3 full playoff series across 2 years. He has potential to keep improving, yes, but 200 mil more than accounts for that. I thought 35/year was fair, and honestly that’s only if he shows serious improvements the next few years. I’d rather have him sign the QO than raise it further. Best case scenario is maybe that we flip him at the trade deadline, but we’d need to get a center who could absorb minutes to do that.

Step even farther back and realize Durens age. There is a lot of room to grow and get better. A virtual ²⁰⁄₁₀ big men at 22 and will only turn 23 a month into the season. These difficulties can be grown past. Pay him what he wants. If it goes sour, trade him for young talent and picks.

There is always some dumbass team like the Kings who might give him that much.

But I understand your point in general

Duren is negotiating the best deal possible for himself, just as NBA teams always do.

Trajan literally calling Duren difficult to deal with in media conferences.

There’s no good side/bad side in this.

Duren is likely going to get paid what he wants. Detroit will rebuild within a few seasons if they fumble this and he takes the QO.

A lot of experience is bad experience, which is what makes it experience to learn from.

I think he just understand that Maxxing Duren is a disaster. He’s a very good player but he doesn’t mesh with our other non shooters and Ausar at least is elite at things that matter in the playoffs.

While I like Duren I don’t take much issue with how Trajan has handled him. Duren is delusional. He wanted 40 million last off-season when he literally had done nothing and was close to being benched earlier that season.

If he takes the QO it’s proof he has horrible judgement and it’s not possible to win at the highest level with a guy like that as part of your core.

Maxing Duren isn’t the damn answer.

Top graduate of the David Griffin School of Fucking up a Franchise

Because players talk and this impacts your reputation with players and managers.

I agree. I’m surprised so many are like “why’d he say this” - it’s what you said but also I just think he’s over Duren and this definitely leads me to believe he could care less if Duren accepts any offer they give him or not lol

The only issue here is it doesn’t seem to be much effort made to trade him if that’s the case but we’ll see. That would be the only puzzling part about this because his comments definitely lean more towards “I don’t really like this guy so I’ll say what I want to say”

I think he just knows he’s not worth the offers they’ve been giving him and also maybe ownerships forced his hand to some degree with making offers and it ticked him off. Who knows but yeah these guys are adults they can handle a comment like this

I would get so fat if I was rich.

fuck pornstars, get drunk, and eat whatever he wants

Well shit when you put it like that

Like exactly what most of us would do given the chance lol

I actually couldn’t believe it when he had the one video for his new tattoo and he had food and you could see the man had moobs. Like you gotta know what this looks like, right?

Why didn’t you just copy & paste “pornstars” to save yourself some time?!

Not AD. Langdon specifically mentioned being with a disgruntled player for five years in New Orleans.

Yeah, I was a heavy user for ten years and watching it that’s where my mind went first

Trajan eyes been like that since 1994 at Magic Roundball Classic.

Ingram.

R/woosh

Crazy because Embiid actually averages more points and rebounds in the second round compared to the first.

I mean, is he wrong? AD was traded a month later. Dude says he dealt with the guy for 5 years.  Can’t be AD 🤷🏻‍♂️

Also the AD thing going sour was entirely AD.

Word around the team at the time was there was an agreement to trade him at the end of the year if it didn’t pan out and that wasn’t good enough for him so he tried forcing his way out instead. Even without that info the way AD carried himself through the end of his Pels tenure was embarrassing for him and if anything, made the Pels front office look better, not worse.

Worst mistake was not trading him.

not trading him

Most fans were out on him after the Orlando series. This isn’t exactly a 180.

Wellllll did ya watch the playoffs

And its not like hes the head coach… hes just the GM

Dude is gonna lose his job if he lets a 22 year old all star go for nothing

The entire thing just sucks. I want the Pistons to be good. I want the success of a team that hasn’t seen much recently. They have so much hope and promise. For it to get messed up over something like this is so annoying and makes it seem hopeless for other teams.

Lol

Keegan Murray???

So we can pair Sabonis and Duren in the frontcourt?

I was making a Zion eating pun lol
