Just adding on. You do adjust your strategy slightly when counting but you basically can only get back the odds to even and I think you’re slightly unfavorable. But you are generally correct that the actual edge comes from changing bet sizing.

It’s fine to do socially as long as you’re aware of the risk of addiction and you are taught how to set limits for yourself. I distinctly remember going to Vegas once with my dad as a kid and he taught me how to play blackjack and safely set personal boundaries and how to stick to them.
