DeMarcus Cousins speaks on the Kings hot-mic incident. Says a reporter in Sacramento lifted his shirt to check his physique when he was a 19-year-old rookie. “She had this infatuation about my body”
Has there been any update on whether the reporters faced actual disciplinary action?
Let’s be real, if a male reporter was caught on a hot mic rating WNBA players’ looks, he would be fired before he even made it back to his car in the parking lot.
These are the people on the recording
Jason Jones
Tristi Rodriguez
Sara Hodges
nothing yet
A male reporter made a creepy remark to Caitlin Clark a WNBA player and got suspended (not fired).
[removed]
But we also live in a world that is screaming for equality. You cant pick and choose what you want to be equal. The what aboutism of it being a man is annoying, but there is some relevance as the lack of disciplinary action seems to contradict what would normally happen
But we also live in a world that is screaming for equality
It would be nice if there was someone better to lead this “equality for men too” thing other than the NBA player who told his ex-girlfriend he was going to murder her.
You can’t have equality while also dismissing history
It looks like you’re the one dismissing history because this situation is white women talking about black men’s bodies. Are you claiming slavery didn’t exist? Please explain the historical context of black men power dynamics. That’s pretty fucked up and racist, of course with the Celtics flair lol
So with historical context this is okay?
Sure there are a lot of areas where there are easy gotcha’s that ignore context and try to subvert the argument based on whataboutism.
But I don’t think this is one of those cases. I don’t think its necessarily a gender argument as well, but this isn’t a case where historical context justifies it.
what does history have to do with this?
But they do pick and choose. The ones who hold power do it all the time throughout history.
Just because that’s what happened in the past that doesn’t make it right. The people arguing about history are not acknowledging the simple difference between how male victims and female victims have been treated and continue to be treated.
Yes female victims also don’t get treated seriously and don’t have the proper outrage. That doesn’t change the fact that male victims get treated even less seriously, and with even less outrage.
There are many anecdotal instances of this in television and film, the judiciary system, and how victims are reported by the media. There are even studies that delve into this and find that people are often more sympathetic to female victims and find the same crime against them as a more serious offense to their male counterparts.
There is a real gap there and it should be acknowledged.
Ok, but think about this my fellow 50th in education friend… do we have equality? Are women and men punished the same way? Obviously not.
It just seems like everyone who gets on their high horse about women not being punished like men fail to realize that many dudes who have been caught saying sexist and weird shit have come out rather unscathed. After all, our fucking country has produced the best example of this as one of the President’s most famous quotes is literally, “when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything… Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.”
Also, what is a suitable punishment? Remove the press passes? That’s extreme. What they said is weird and probably should be reserved for anywhere other than an NBA press conference, but again, dudes have said more vulgar shit with less punishment.
Edit: All I’m trying to say is that this complaint you have is yet another example of a guy (presumably a guy) holding a woman to a higher standard.
No its an example of wanting to hold everyone to the same high standard. Just because some have gotten away with it, doesnt mean all should. This id an elemtary level excuse of “but they did it too so why am I in trouble”. It doesnt hold up.
We are able to look at past examples, and be critical of the outcomes that have occurred, while also looking at current examples and saying that they should all be punished in the same way and to the same standard. That is equal. That is equality of law, and circumstance/outcome. There will always be cases of unfair justice, but that doesnt mean unfair justice should continue.
I understand that your president (I am Australian) is a misogynistic pig who has given large groups of people the confidence to support misogyny themselves. But that is again, not an excuse to allow poor behaviour to continue regardless of who perpetrated it.
Someone’s never heard of equity!! It’s okay I got you.
So the difference is that in a society dominated by males physically, politically, in households, financially, etc there is what’s called a “power imbalance” (which means that one group of people hold a disproportionate amount of power over another group). This is important to this discussion because of one massive reason - fear.
Men in general do not fear women physically, nor do they fear them politically or in workplaces or households because men hold most of the power in these areas. So when a woman makes sexual comments about a man, someone like Zach Lavine is not in danger in any way and does not feel fear or threat.
The opposite is true for women - if a man makes sexual comments about a woman, they appear outwardly uncomfortable because there is a threat of sexual violence, regular violence, or workplace retribution if they refuse the sexual advance. This is due to the inherent power imbalance in place based on our patriarchal society and the fact that most men can physically dominate women.
I hope this helps, I tried to give a serious answer because I see this stuff all the time and there are huge misconceptions about what “equality” between sexes actually means.
Logic like this is just going to end up downplaying victims just because they are male. In a general sense some of this might be true, but things should be looked at a case by case basis.
There are many women who have the power balance in a relationship/household, or in the workplace. There also situations where one party may not have clear power over the other. Cases like this are plenty frequent and this comment completely brushes over it. This also doesn’t acknowledge the idea of emotional power imbalance which has a large impact on the power dynamics within human relationships.
There are also generalizations being made in regards to how Men and Women react to sexual comments. Yes women may feel danger or fear more frequently than Men do in similar situations but that doesn’t mean that Men can’t feel fear or feel threatened in similar situations, or more importantly also feel uncomfortable.
It’s also a stretch to assume that the reason women always feel discomfort is because there is a threat of sexual or physical violence, more than anything it may just simply the reaction to an unwarranted comment. With the ability to say things over the internet and even examples of Women making unwarranted comments to other Women, there are many situations where the comment itself is what is causing discomfort rather than the threat of another action.
Should Women who simply feel discomfort and not feel any real fear in terms of danger or sexual violence, compared to Women who did feel danger for the same exact comment, be taken less seriously? The broad point is that both cases should be taken equally as seriously and the reaction to the perpetrator should be the same.
So if it’s a man in a wheelchair without any limbs who cannot physically dominate anyone, it would be okay if he said about a WNBA player “she seems like a bitch, she’s lucky she’s hot”?
So when a woman makes sexual comments about a man, someone like Zach Lavine is not in danger in any way and does not feel fear or threat.
That’s an assumption, but for the sake of argument let’s say Zach is not in danger of being physically dominated. There is still a wide continuum of harassment below that (including exactly this which was caught on tape), and a wide array of resulting negative emotions that don’t arise to “fear”. No one should have to deal with any of it, especially at work.
Also, letting anyone get away with this behavior, regardless of gender, is just letting it propagate in the workplace. Even in this Kings example, it was two women and a man participating in the conversation. It screams toxic work environmet. And the Kings wonder why no one wants to be there.
When haven’t we lived in a world that’s screaming for equality?
Most of history is full of massive inequality and no push to change it
You can pick and choose, it happens every day
The world isn’t fair, and no group is equal, what one group can do another can’t, that’s just life
Accept it and move on
Possibly the dumbest shit ive ever read
So people should just be treated differently based on immutable characteristics like race and sex?
Last I checked sexual harassment rules apply to everyone equally
You know equality isn’t about just pretending men and women are exactly the same with no differences, right? Please tell me you’re not that silly.
also isn’t there a journalist in the WNBA who always asks creepy questions to Caitlin Clark?
I’m fairly certain he had his credentials revoked
He did the hand heart gesture and said do this to me and we’ll get along just fine. “Gregg Doyel published a public apology and a written column, and he was subsequently suspended for two weeks and barred from covering the team.”
Yeah and he rightly caught a lot of shit for being a fucking creep, as all these nasty unprofessional skanks in the kings org should
The historical context of black men power dynamics? This is what we’re going with here?
Okay, go ahead, tell me about that history. I’ll wait.
Reddit is so pussy whipped that they genuinely have convinced themselves that white women are opressed and black men were historically priveleged.
This is textbook sexual harassment lol what historical context and power dynamics make it okay?
I didn’t say it’s okay. I’m saying if the roles were reversed there’d be more outrage because of years of hurt women have felt due to sexual harassment in the workplace
Ok? That adds literally nothing to the conversation. Everybody understands why there is a double standard, the whole discussion is about how it’s not okay and should be taken seriously.
And your* inability to care about 2 things at once shows you’re not mature enough to even be in the conversation.
*your
I just think if you’re going to lecture someone, don’t fuck it up at the starting line lol
You didn’t add a period to the end of your sentence. Your grammar is just as lacking, idiot.
This is the same sub that cries whenever they hear a black player say whiteboy, “but but but, what if the roles were reversed and a white player said blackboy!” You can’t reason with people who have already decided they’re the victim.
So true.
You can’t just say “if the roles were reversed!”
Boogie is saying this in the clip.
It’s sooooo annoying it’s the worst kind of point, but also women athletes are objectified constantly
Ex: complaints about beach volleyball athletes not wearing bikinis, espn the body magazine put women athletes in more passive/nonathletic poses then men, constant discourse about woman athlete x, y, or z secretly being a man or being hot
There’s been a handful of games this WNBA season alone of fans throwing dildos onto the floor too
Its quite telling that it happened at multiple male sporting events first including the NFL but literally only came onto people’s radars when it happened at a WNBA game. Like you guys look like aboslute idiots when you claim it was sexism. Also it was a publicity stunt by some crypto company or something, not fans.
by professional journalists who were caught on tape?
Yep
I’m sure you seek equality, well then this is part of that equality formula. What that reporter did to this man is not OK. It’s actually disgusting. And nothing happened to her. And the reason why is because he’s a man.
And he deserves equality.
Except this isn’t a case where one is okay and one isn’t.
It is worse for a man to objectify a woman.
It is still bad for a woman to objectify a man.
lol. Thanks I needed that today.
You just said one is worse than the other .
The comment i’m replying to is saying that the reporter’s punishment and the outrage toward her behaviour should be the same as if she were a man objectifying a woman.
So are you saying she should be held accountable or not?
In the NBA that’s kind of weirdly a normal thing. Players used to say owners would bring in their friends to the locker room and they’d just start grabbing guys to feel their muscles and looking at them. Donald Sterling used to say “look at my beautiful boys!” as he’d parade a line of his friends into the locker room.
https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/breaking-news/article/nba-reportedly-close-to-selecting-winning-bid-for-las-vegas-expansion-team-has-3-finalist-groups-202453031.html
We’ve seen fans rub up on players that dived into the crowd.
Players have mentioned owners and other high up people would pat them on the butt but not really pat but get a real palmful and hold on.
Oh well!! That’s what’s actual equality looks like. Same standards regardless of gender…
I mean when men say this same exact thing to women, they get called incels.
Not to mention we’re watching a league with multiple abusers, acting like men don’t get away with things is absurd
WNBA is also a legue with multiple abusers. Literally all walks of life are.
True
I think you can. Two wrongs don’t make a right?
Absolutely brain dead take. You can’t scream for equality and then use historical examples of inequality to perpetuate the same bullshit but from a different angle. If we really want to move on from our past of hate and prejudice it is going to take the historically marginalized communities to step up and stop marginalizing others for the failures of the past they sophistically ascribe to them.
Sure you certainly can just say that.
WNBA fans can’t even point now lmao
I mean, look at Vrabel still keeping his job while Russini lost hers immediately. Her integrity as a reporter was compromised for sure, but there’s still something to be said here. Inequality everywhere you look.
Didn’t she quit while the company was doing an investigation?
Not to mention it’s different dynamics.
One person, objective of sex, is a reporter whose relationships with franchises and coaches is basically the most important factor impacting/driving success in their career.
One person, objective of sex, is the head coach for a team. Their relationship with reporters doesn’t compromise their career or impact it too much.
These two people engage in an affair. Which one do you think will have their career impacted more?
Why the fuck would Vraebel be fired for cheating on his wife? Are y’all okay?
My dad got fired for cheating on my mom 20 years ago. Some public facing jobs have morality clauses.
Lmao
Redditors are the epitome of “So you hate waffles?”
not really the same situation. being the coach of a football team and being a reporter are very different positions. especially when you’re vrabel last year
That’s because Vrabel just won coach of the year and took the Patriots to the Super Bowl. It’s much easier to replace a reporter than a good player/coach.
Goddamn yall must have the tiniest brains. It’s because him having a relationship with a reporter is not detrimental to his job. It is to hers because it’s her job to report unbiased news.
Vrabel would 100% have been fired if the Patriots missed the playoffs, mayne even after a first round exit.
The fact they made the Super Bowl is a major reason he was kept on.
If it turned out Pat McAfee was cheating with a WNBA coach he would not get fired.
God it’s such a disservice to the cause when people like you make everything a result of patriarchy/sexism/racism etc. It’s possible for 2 things to exist separately of each other, pretending otherwise makes it that much harder on people calling out actual cases of discrimination, and there are plenty.
Vrabel is easily a top 15 mind out of 8 BILLION people, in his area of expertise. But yeah the patriarchy is surely the reason. Get a grip dude.
Right, because that’s what this discussion is about.
Giving a reason for him sticking around is definitely part of the conversation. They were adding to your point
“took the patriots” no they got lucky
That was a consensual relationship, player/coach banging reporters isn’t a scandal. A reporter banging a player/coach is.
Vrabel is a chad and russini is a ho
Tell that to Vrabel’s wife and kids.
I think she knows.
Stop lol
I haven’t seen anything but I imagine they’re absolutely going to be fired
They shouldn’t get punished. Some double standards are ok lol. They were just complimenting the fellas. For the WNBA it’s different because they’re trying to be taken seriously as athletes, so the context matters.
They were just complimenting the fellas.
I mean they also insulted them at the same time by calling them cringe and pricks.
Either way reporters shouldn’t be talking like this on the job, that’s gross bro
It’s a private convo that got out in the open. If your private convos were made public you’d probably have said weird and offensive shit like all of us
Accidents still have repercussions. Either way it’s still unprofessional to be talking about players like this when you’re a reporter on the job. It’s not like they got caught saying this at home with their friends.
“if a male was caught”
lmao y’all care so much about turning the tables but are quiet when 99% of rape and violent crimes are committed by men.
That’s what the justice system is for. Even more men are prisoners than the proportion of crimes they commit that can be given a prison sentence for.
That 99% statistic famously emerges from the crime statistics of men who were indeed caught lol
They’d be fired and the WNBA players would be wearing shirts about it the next night.
I actually don’t have a major issue with the hot mic convo. I didn’t think they were very extra for what is just a personal conversation. I don’t know if they crossed the boundary into “gross” either, though I only listened to about half of it.
That said, getting caught on a hot mic is a problem. This as a personal convo is actually fairly tame. Man or woman, I think it’s fine. The most egregious thing I heard was “He’s hella fine” a couple times, but that’s about it. But in a professional setting, getting caught being unprofessional comes with consequences. I have no problem with that. It can be a tame convo that was still unprofessional, and thus should still result in some kind of reprimand.
So I don’t necessarily have an issue with the hot mic, but can agree that it needs to be punished anyway, on principle. But the stuff Boogie was describing definitely crosses the line. That’s a breach of personal space. And if it was a man who did it, we’d probably pin an SA label on it. So, what Boogie described should never be allowed, and that type of offense should have been punished. That’s some Donald Sterling level shit.
Well it’s not really the same
I think the problem is with the way male reporters are treated, not that female reporters should be treated just as unfairly
He’s talking about Ailene Voisin, now retired Sacramento Bee reporter. She’s sorta famous in Sacramento for being obsessed with player physiques.
Here’s a snippet from an article about Ricky Rubio she wrote in 2009:
“The body. Having only watched Rubio on television, most closely during last summer’s Olympics, I was surprised by his physique. Dressed in a black T-shirt, shorts and sneakers, he appeared taller than his listed height – close to 6-foot-5. He also had better definition, particularly in his upper arms. He wasn’t the skinny young thing he looks like on the tube.”
Edit: found another one about Spencer Hawes back in 2009. Some snippets:
Hawes says he’s sorry for absence - KINGS CENTER BLAMES ‘POOR COMMUNICATION’
“Spencer Hawes plopped onto the couch in the lobby of the Kings’ practice facility, his 7-foot frame dominating the decor. A bag of ice encased his right knee. His gray T-shirt was soaked with sweat. His arms draped the back of the furniture, a cell phone clutched in his right hand.”
“[Hawes wants] to reassure the organization he hasn’t suddenly lost his lusty work ethic…”
“According to new coach Paul Westphal, all is forgiven and forgotten. And his initial impression of his young center? Both the body of work and the body were impressive. Underneath that sweaty T-shirt, Hawes’ shoulders appear broader and thicker.”
“[Hawes is] like the precocious younger sibling who tags along, who is a chronic irritant, yet whose presence enlivens and enhances the household dynamic. He’s so complex, such an unusual character, that he can sit on the couch and fall on his sword at the same time.”
Donald Sterling should have hired her.
She started her career covering the Clippers lol.
Edit: in 1981, lol, ain’t no way. Same year Sterling bought the team 💀
Broooo, I’d love to be a fly on the wall listening to them in the 80s.
Va1us_taaurc Finds Out!
Someone contact Pablo torre..
This is why I love Reddit, random shit like this
Or Jerry Jones
Jerry would never delegate inspection
wild scenes lol. “His print was also sizable, though it may have been a shadow”
Wait she fr said that?
No i was joking
I am Arabian prince, check DM
I sure hope not lol
Smh
No one was saying print in 2006 you fucking chud.
The thick veins, especially near the base of the shaft, seem to suggest a strong flow of blood when needed. The shorts were corduroy though, I’ll let you interpret that however you want.
Bro really started fantasizing with this one.
Your joke but worse
Dude that was a good joke. Whenever have you seen penis veins compared to cords of roy?
Has anyone checked if Danielle Steel is a longtime Kings fan who goes under a disguise to cover her favorite team?
Kind of relieved it’s not just a racial fetish if she talking bout Rubio that way too.
She just a pervert
On which tube ?
She was a real tube hog
Can you imagine a male author writing this about a woman? He’d get crucified.
Wait until you hear what the president says
The President of the US said he would grab a random women by their “lady parts” and everyone forgot that ever happened.
They didn’t forget. They just don’t care. Because America is a dumpster fire.
tbh that’s pretty typical locker room talk. that’s why those reporters were so casually talking about Ben Simmons like that
writing an article about it cause you think other people want to read that is weird
Hopefully we can hold the president to higher standard than some dipshit in a locker room
Trump talked into a microphone about Arnold Palmer’s body and penis to a crowd full of people.
Idk man, I’ve been in a lot of locker rooms and never heard anyone brag about getting away with sexual assult.
The Ben Simmons conversation yeah, and even stuff more explicit than that, but the Trump thing was several levels above that.
I get that men’s issues are often downplayed but are we for real trying to say women are less sexualized. Come on, brother.
“Can you imagine…” and I’m like, they literally made a magazine about objectifying women. Multiple magazines!
Have you seen a sport broadcast where woman are anything but covered head to toe. Are you being forreal rn lmao
Are you saying there isn’t any sport broadcast where they aren’t covered from head to toe or am I misunderstanding? Cause if so, I can list you a fuck ton of them. Wnba being one of them
I’m saying when you have a sport like track and field or volleyball there is a literally decades upon decades of recordings, lists of videos of their events where the camera is being used to blatantly sexualize the woman they actively place that on their asses. You talk about sexualized by writers dog female athletes are sexualized during the sport on broadcast in front of thousands.
https://1075thefan.com/playlist/baller-babes-most-beautiful-women-in-the-wnba/
Hilarious you compare this random radio station website to a real journalist
Not just a single random radio station.
The staff of 100.3RnB in Philly published the original version of the article. Then the article was pushed to fellow UrbanOne stations across the country. Edits made to cater to locals were made, then it was republished.
The article made rounds across the country.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_Illustrated_Swimsuit_Issue
Though to be fair people have had a lot to criticize about it
It’s from a radio station in 2026, not a no longer employed reporter from 2006.
[ Removed by Reddit ]
Probably not the time to try and make this point
You are a fucking idiot lol we got literal pimps being some of the biggest influencers in the world
Reminds me of in WWE, you see guys like Roman Reigns or HBK standing in crowds, and you’d catch a female fan being extremely handsy with them.
She took creative flourishes but a male author would basically say almost the same stuff. “Hawes put on some weight this off season, he said he has been lifting and eating clean under the watchful eye of the team trainer and dietician. The weight is mostly in his firm buttocks and strong thighs.” Normal sports writing stuff.
because guys sexualize it and rarely give grace or objectivity to women. its not about athleticism and tone for a male writer when commenting on womens looks. it took society centuries to even start taking the womans body serious enough to advance medicine in terms of reproductive and mental health and stop cutting them open during childbirth and lobotimizing them for “hysteria”
you guys always “what about men” like history hasnt had us at the forefront for the entirety of it. and like, being called a creep is the worst thing in the world to a man? then maybe dont hypothetically go to wnba games just to write about womens bodies
Male authors describe women’s bodies in MUCH worse ways. There is a whole subreddit devoted to dunking on “she breasted boobily down the stairs” examples: r/menwritingwomen
isn’t that sub for fiction though? It’s still weird don’t get me wrong but real people are an entirely different conversation.
Buddy had the wrong gun loaded
There’s also tons of examples of men writing magazine profiles of women where they describe their bodies.
For example, Thomas Chatteron Williams’ 2018 profile of Emily Ratajowski wherein he says she has “the most perfect breasts of her generation” and is shocked she gives an intelligent response to a question while sporting a shirt with an “extraordinarily deep neckline without a bra, all the while seeming to know, deep down, just how absurd and confusing … such an outfit looks with everything she’s saying.”
There’s this 2021 profile of Angelina Jolie about her human rights activism and how Brad Pitt beat her and choked the kids on a plane that opens with describing her “lips like a plumped red sofa.”
When it comes to athletes, research generally shows that media tends to depict female athletes much differently: for example, someone analyzed decades of Sports Illustrated and ESPN Magazine covers and found that “Women appearing on the covers were likelier than men to be portrayed in a sexualized manner, in terms of skin exposure and suggestive poses. Men were likelier to be portrayed in active poses.” Other research shows that male athletes are far more likely than female athleted to be described as “strong” or “aggressive.”
The European Broadcasting Union had to come up with guidelines around camera angles for sports because so many people were being real gross about their sexualized slow mo shots of a female athlete’s butt.
“Her breast was the perfect shape for a breast to be” -George RR Martin
No way.
Is that real?
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/dec/16/gilbert-arenas-plan-to-boost-wnba-less-clothing-and-fewer-ugly-players
did gilbert arenas get cancelled?
Rachel Nichols punching air somewhere while reading these quotes.
It should have been ME!
The ORIGIN STORIES
This is pre twitter media slop looool
Underneath that sweaty T-shirt, Hawes’ shoulders appear broader and thicker.
He looked thick. Solid. Tight. Hoping he keeps us all posted on his continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Wanna see how freakin’ huge, solid, thick and tight he can get.
sometimes looks lie but she has the face of someone that would say exactly that
So she noticed he was taller than he looked, and had put on some muscle. Am I supposed to see an issue here?
She’s writing erotica lol
She lifted up Demarcus shirt to see his physique without asking. That’s fucked up and she’s a damn pig
That has nothing to do with the quote we’re talking about here
Yeah, when I saw they were sharing a quote I expected something scandalous.
These are athletes. Their height, weight, wingspan, strength, etc are the subject of endless discussion for a valid reason.
If Cousins didn’t want his shirt lifted then that’s obviously bad, but that quote is nothing.
Yeah what I am reading actually sounds very reasonable, your physical traits are absolutely noteworthy in sports and especially basketball.
Looks like she timed that retirement well.
She looks like Howard Stern, no wonder she is a shock jock.
So fucking waird
So let me preface by saying I, in no way condone touching someone without permission, that’s inappropriate and should cost you your job. And the language she uses here is… odd if one is to be generous (I’m not).
I just want to say, I think admiring the physique is okay, because I’m watching the UofL women’s volleyball game, and I’m just geeking over their physique. It is in no way sexual, it is in awe really, and just admiration.
Just can’t be a fucking weirdo about it. Admire, don’t touch, and don’t make it weird man.
Admiring biceps: weird
Admiring plump juicy butts: normal, man
Who said I am looking at their butts? I’m looking at their thighs, their arms? There is more to people than their erogenous zones.
If you’re not geeking over Dwight’s (or some other jacked NBA player’s) physique, then it is absolutely sexual. The fact you’re trying to justify it as not is super weird. If you’re geeking over dude physiques too, then all good, carry on.
I absolutely love Dwight’s physique what the fuck lol dudes got god shoulders
Sorry didn’t see your last sentence lol
Show me a guy who isn’t envious of peak Dwight’s shoulders and I’ll show you a liar. There’s a pretty thin line when commenting on people’s bodies though, both positive and negative.
It’s weird if it isn’t a liiiitle bit sexual
Ture that. When I watch the Olympics, some of the too athletes are real specimens. Both men and women. I would sometimes just sit there in total admiration.
See, it’s saying shit like that that makes people think I’m some hyper sexual dog, when I just like muscles in a “damn super heroes are cool” way. Why you gotta make it weird
You love muscles so you watch womens volleyball?
Hm.
I like muscles too. Especially the glutes on ladies
The reporter Boogie’s referencing was laid off in 2018 and to my knowledge has not been around the team since
8 years after the incident? Glad they jumped on that one quick!
edit: Thank you for the award!!
She wasn’t laid off for anything having to do with their behavior
Sac Bee laid off the entire sports department. The newspaper industry has been in freefall since the early 2010s
Yep, one of the worst consequences of the recession that no one discusses. Journalism died.
it’s not the recession it’s private equity and media consolidation. What you’re seeing with the WB Paramount merger has already happened in the paper industry. I worked for one of the companies for 5 years, we owned 300ish newspapers around the country including some major ones. The parent company strips these places down to barebones.
People didn’t step up to pay for the journalism they consumed… instead they bitched about pay walls.
Oh yeah the Sacramento Bee has been a shitshow for a long time
Well he’s a guy, so it’s really not a big deal /s
She should be thrown in jail. Time since incident doesn’t matter, right??
What could this possibly mean
I have a sneaking suspicion it’s an indirect reference to (and/or defense of) Kobe
What’s in the water in Sacramento
A whale recently
Ben Simmons picked the right city to go fishing in, I guess.
…. You want him to catch a whale while fishing?
He is still a young socialite afterall
whales aren’t fish
Damn, Rio can’t even have a little adventuring hobby without catching strays smdh
It comes from the top. You got the owner’s daughter scouting light skins for her g league squad and she ain’t looking at basketball skills.
Ayo what the hell? Is that for real?
She was the GM of the stockton Kings and is now dating Jeremy Lamb who was literally on her team. Massive conflict of interest that seemingly just got swept under the rug.
Remember when Jerry Jones the cowboys owner was overheard
talking about this very thing
Sacramento is cool and the people there are dope but everyone in power or in the spotlight there is whack af and weird.
They perpetuate this little brother city syndrome that doesn’t really exist, the best part of living in sac is it’s not La or the bay, but people who think they’re bigshots act weird as fuck cause they’re perpetually trying to audition for a bigger market.
There’s big fish in little ponds everywhere trying to make it big in the marquee cities. Sacramento is just a decent-sized pond that is geographically closer to a couple of those marquee cities and has more of those people for whom that is attainable. Some of those people can overdo ambition and become real weird with it.
They perpetuate this little brother city syndrome that doesn’t really exist, the best part of living in sac is it’s not La or the bay
Some people feel like someone else having different opinions of their choices is a slight on them. Two people could have the exact some view of City A and B and one person could prefer City A for one reason and the other City B. I’ve heard a lot of nonsense over the years about why people prefer [area of Sacramento they’ve lived their whole lives] over Los Angeles or New York City based entirely off of television, a weekend vacation, or a trip to Disneyland as a toddler. I heard the same shit about California from out of state kids in college.
Maybe it’s just a loud minority, but it feels like there’s always somebody that can’t enjoy what they have without shitting on what someone else has.
Vodka
Look man there’s nothing to do there but get it on
Guess I’m moving to Sacramento.
Sacramento is sick though. It’s not Memphis.
Props to boogie for opening up
When I first started listening to him I was kinda like “ok, everyone has a story…”
Then the way he broke it down was just straight up violation of a young person and he didn’t even make it grandiose, I was like 😬
Then the bozo nexts to him starts laughing no wonder a lot of guys don’t want to talk about this kinda stuff
The way he just said he just wants it handled fairly makes me feel like it definitely happened.
Don’t need to listen or read any comments I know he rightfully shit talking Ailene lmao he hates her so much
Pablo, we need you here.
I think Pablo has bigger fish to fry
That’s fucked up that he REPORTED it to the FO and they did NOTHING
its quite simple for the nba, there is no reason to have the in the locker room, no less while people change. its such an unproffessional standard with no upside for even fans except westbrooks interviews
It’s fucked up for his co-host to laugh about him being vulnerable
Dude looks like the real life version of that Patrick Star dumb/drooling meme.. crazy how many people have a platform these days
So laughing at someone who shows vulnerability is definitely a shitty thing that a lot of people (especially guys) do, and it’s good to draw attention to that and to call it out if you see it.
In this case though, the rest of the video makes it pretty clear the co-host is agreeing with Cousins and taking his story seriously: he’s shaking his head in disapproval at the reporter’s behavior, and when Cousins later says “I hope the people up top will handle it accordingly and professionally”, he’s nodding in agreement.
In that context I’m more inclined to think he’s laughing out of awkward disbelief, at the absurdity of that reporter writing an article about lifting Cousin’s shirt up.
I think hes laughing at how ridiculous it was that she wrote about it.

weird ass comment
Why you watch in the chair sitting in the corner? 😂
i’m sorry to hear that?
you wish
Stop posting your fantasies on here bro
Circe is that you?
I too am sleeping with thou girl
I’m not one to give gossip any light but is this girl your actual friend or this is something you heard?…🤔
Just because NBA players are able to sleep with more people on average doesn’t make the other guy laughing at him not fucked up.
A 19-year-old having his shirt lifted up against his consent by an older reporter in a press conference is not the same as “sleeping with chicks in every city”. Please tell me I don’t have to explain why.
JAIL
I must have missed the hot mic story. What was it about?
https://youtu.be/lMqHiFdsMu8?si=top6PacBbx4jBEmU
I thought the actual Ben Simmons interview was pretty good. Solid depth to the answers and very well spoken.
I’d watch the vid. A couple ladies(a guy chimes in too) are talking about different players and their attractiveness/personality. Some things like one of them saying they prefer lightskins, Simmons being cringe, and Lavine seeming like an asshole(not the exact quote)
lol imagine a male reporter doing that to a female athlete…
It would be national headline news and the man would have his life ruined
Honestly huge respect for DeMarcus here. His co host perfectly encapsulates the fragility in the community when it comes to masculinity. That being said rhe direct equation from male to female disregards differences in biology. A girl isnt gonna make me feel threatened physically.
A girl doesn’t have to be physically threatening to be a creep though
Its all in the eyes
For sure it’s just not as threatening when you know theres no way this person could overpower you. Same with when this tiny skinny guy was being a creep to me. I was disturbed but never in fear
Wasn’t Ted Bundy a Skinny guy?
Eh you never know. Plenty of people work around their lack of size or even use it as a weapon
Nah just unattractive apparently
same goes for men tbf
You don’t have to feel threatened to be uncomfortable when a stranger decides to touch and rub their hands all over your chest and body.
I agree and at the same time i think the idea of not feeling physically threatened is relevant.
It is not when you are talking about the context of black men and white women.
or anyone abused by women at any point
Physical threats aren’t necessary considering what the consequences of fighting off a white woman would be for a young black man.
I’m not sure why you’re stuck on “feeling physically threatened” regarding these situations. I don’t think these cases are about feeling unsafe, but uncomfortable.
It’s more analogous to guys making suggestive/inappropriate jokes about a female coworker. She may not feel threatened, but it’s sexual harrassment and should be called out as such. Same here
Tell that to a Tongan girl. She’ll fuck up anyone except a Tongan guy
im not saying that brock lesners daughter couldnt kick my ass or any pro female fighter i just mean 95% of the time.
Physically threatening? No, probably not. Socially threatening? Well that’s another story. The reduction of these threats to only the physical, in an age with fewer physical altercations than ever before, and in reference to a specific situation where the physical threat could never come to fruition in the first place, seems disingenuous to me.
So because one human doesn’t have a physical advantage over another, we as a society should condemn their behavior less?
If a small guy rapes 100 people, should we look at it differently from a big guy who rapes 100 people?
People who eat less can rape more than people who eat more. What kind of sick, twisted logic is that?
You’ve spent way too much time on Twitter arguing about sexual discourse, my guy. And don’t even get me started on the “a girl isn’t going to make me feel physically threatened” argument.
If Ronda Rousey harassed you, should we treat it differently just because she’s a woman? Should harassment from her somehow be less serious than the same harassment from an average woman against an average man?
…Yes? Two different situations should be seen as different. It’s ok to say two things are bad while still being able to acknowledge that one is clearly worse than another.
No, a girl probably shouldn’t lift a boy’s shirt, not that it’s an overly big deal. But no, it’s obviously not the same level of harmful as a boy lifting a girls shirt. This should be obvious to anoyone with common sense.
Yeah, that’s absolutely not ok.
Boogie was just 19 and Sacramento was already checking out every part of his game.
Ah.
He’s right
Equal rights should apply both ways. It’s crazy the double standard but I guess that’s just how the world works
Right because men always get punished for saying creepy stuff about women. Or just doing anything bad, ever.
Oh wait, Miles Bridges beat the living fuck out of a woman and his children and is getting paid millions of dollars to currently still play basketball.
Oh and Blake Griffin punched his equipment staff member twice (breaking his hand in the process). Y’all love him.
Peyton Manning repeatedly sexually assaulted his personal trainers (women) and never faced a single consequence.
Kobe. Ben Roethlisberger. Brock Turner. Karl Malone. The list goes on forever
Meanwhile, a Sacramento Kings trainer literally two months ago came out with a lawsuit about dozens of inappropriate remarks made by Doug Christie, Scott Perry, and other staff and nobody gave a single shit.
But you’re so right, let’s make an example of these women talking about how Ben Simmons has nice skin and pretend that’s equality. Sure buddy.
Absolutely crazy the number of people outing themselves as sexual harassment apologists in this thread lmao. You should be ashamed.
….huh??? Can you explain? I’m like beyond baffled by this did you mean to respond to someone else?
You’re making excuses for a sexual harasser because other sexual harassers exist lmao. Textbook apologia.
You know what you’re doing, too.
Two things can be wrong at the same time. It’s not an either or. I agree with all those examples. Athletes almost always get a pass, and that’s just not how it would work for us regular people.
I didn’t say that they weren’t both wrong?
“She seems like a bitch, she’s lucky she’s so hot.”
While I get the argument of “men and women have different dynamics”, NBA players are kind of in a different category. Most men will never face that kind of objectification because they’re simply not that attractive. NBA players obviously are not under the same threat of violence as women, but they’re gonna get objectified as much as women because they’re considered attractive because they’re tall and athletic. Some will just look at it as an advantage to get laid more, but it can also be uncomfortable if you’re not that kind of guy. It’s far less black and white “oh, he’s a man and she’s a woman so it’s not a big deal” than some are trying to make it out. Donald Sterling couldn’t really hurt the players physically either, him parading the players like race horses was still creepy and dehumanizing. There’s also a level of historical treatment of black men and their bodies being commodified that people won’t acknowledge but really should.
Yeah, to add to what you said: it doesn’t matter that these players are among the biggest, strongest, most athletic guys on the planet. Most of them are teenagers when they enter the league, still figuring out how to navigate the world, and surrounded by people who can make or break their careers. They are vulnerable kids who are constantly put in situations where they’re easily taken advantage of.
It has nothing to do with violence, it’s an invasion of self and everything that should be personal.
You dont kniw what you speak of. Im not a looker but you ever had your balls grabbeed, ever had your but grabbed, chest grabbed i have multiple times by women.
I genuinely cannot tell what you’re trying to argue here.
Lmfao dude. Im tall and athletic and get tons of comments at my corporate workplace. Typically people dont lift my shirt but they do touch me. Never once have I flipped out about it.
Boogie has talked about people basically treating him like a commodity his whole life. Guy doesnt like feeling like a modern version of being a slave up for auction being evaluated by his body. You working a desk job isn’t the same thing, nobody cares. If it doesnt bother you good for you, it doesnt bother some women to be objectified either, still doesnt make it ok.
I know I hate being a slave making millions of dollars to play a sport that I love. Also yes it does make it ok. Its also ok to objectify women. Maybe if you didnt get offended by every thing all day your life would be significantly better.
So you feel that a male reporter should be able to go up to a WNBA player and lift her shirt to see her physique? This is not normal. The fact that you are saying objectifying women is fine kinda disqualifies you from any future moral stances lol.
People are physically touching you while at work because you’re attractive?
I’ve gotten some inappropriate comments before, but I couldn’t imagine letting women I work with touch me just because they think I’m attractive. It’s happened a handful of times while I’ve been at a bar and even that felt incredibly gross to me.
You don’t need to flip out over it, but I would nip it in the bud now. There is nothing good that can come from that type of interaction. You’re only opening yourself to liability by being a “seemingly” willing participant. Respect yourself enough to tell people directly to stop touching you.
You’ve never had a women tap your shoulder or forearm while you speak with them? Or another man who works out comment on your gains and squeeze your arm? I’m usually not uncomfortable by it. I mean very rarely it comes off as creepy when its a woman but thats usually just because im specifically very not attracted to them lol.
No, it’s been a very long time since someone at work has touched me unnecessarily. It’s also not something I’ve witnessed happening between other professionals I’ve worked with.
I don’t know. It’s just kind of weird to be touching other people in a professional setting, but I’m older and work in a very professional setting, so maybe that’s it.
MeToo
Like George Clinton said “She was a Freak, never missing a beat”.
So, she was sexually harassing players and got away with it.
“ didn’t know it was wrong to say I’m just a girl” - Sara the reporter probably.
Because there’s not a threat of physical violence
Edit: I guess people read my comment and assume I condone the behavior. Absolutely insane reading comprehension holy fuck
Can we still agree that it’s creepy?
Yes! I never said there was nothing wrong with it
But Cousins was 6’10 and probably 270ish lbs and by his own account he still froze and questioned his own belief over whether it was a normal thing by a woman who wasn’t physically imposing to him.
You can’t hate the sin and then defend the sinners.
And it’s in this thread and in every discussion of sexual assault. As true as the statement is that men are more physically imposing (or however you want to phrase it), it’s also something that is used to shame men into not talking about it. Because you’re supposed to be big and tough, but people react how they react and it’s out of their control. Also everyone wants to talk about “if you reverse the roles” or imagine if”. We all just listened to a guy give his experience and it just seems like there’s always a lot of people that want to make it about something else. It’s why people don’t talk about it. If something is wrong, it’s wrong, and you call it out. Adding any qualifications or justifications is unnecessary and horseshit. All you see on social media is women supporting women and men going “bro imagine if a guy did that do a girl?” followed by absolutely nothing because they don’t really give a shit but it allows them to feel smug about something for 5 seconds.
I never said men shouldn’t talk about it. They should. Boogie’s reaction to this is extremely valid and it’s fucked up that he was completely ignored. Also this was NOT Voison’s first offense and I’m glad she’s not a beat reporter for the team anymore. Ew. I’m sure she made many other players uncomfortable.
But that doesn’t mean that they’re the same thing. If Cousins did the same thing to a female reporter, she would be terrified because there is a very real threat of sexual violence and she’s helpless to do anything about it. Both are equally wrong, there’s just more fear and threat behind one of the two versions. That’s all I’m saying.
You really do not understand how threatening her behavior is from
Boggie’s perspective as a black man in a situation like this with a white woman.
If you ask many, if not most black men, white women pose a significantly greater threat than white men in the scenario Boogie is describing.
Reynolds way
What?
you think female DV cases don’t involve physical violence?
since when does physical violence depend on size
They do, but at a FAR less prominent rate. Men make up like 80% or more of DV offenders. Typically and certainly in this situation (cousins vs a 5”4 reporter) the man has the ability to easily physically fight out of a situation if necessary, whereas women do not have that power. That’s it
She looks like Steve Tyler
Deleting this because the wrong people liked. Didn’t mean it that way
How long you been waiting to say this?
You’re the misogynist in question
Who could have guessed that reddit username string of numbers with a private history is a misogynist?
Women are WAY worse, they just have options
Be mad but it’s true. I’ve been harassed constantly at work, on the street. You just have to be hot enough
Saying this especially in light of the Cornell story is insane…
Saying this in light of the Clancy case is insane
Pureblood incel over here
As man I’ve been raped by a woman while I was sleeping. Don’t act high and mighty
This is a pretty incel-coded thing to say
Edit: oh god your edit. What a dork.
Is thy tongue as sharp as thine sword, Knight of Whiteness?
I wouldn’t say worse but if you know you know. Women are just as bad in terms of harassment. Literally just like men.
Are you complaining? lol just making sure
Yeah that’s why the Epstein files are filled with women lol
Yeah this is true but you have to understand literally 80% of men are unattractive. Not just not hot but outright unattractive. And reddit is mostly the bottom 30% of even that.
I also went through the catcalling (dogcalling?) and other stuff. On the plus side, women kept giving me gifts and buying me food so there was that. And my first few jobs were just because HR thought I was hot. Incidentally, just play aloof, that works, it is harder for women to do that because thirsty men are way more persistent and lack any of the shame and dignity the thirsty women have. A thirsty woman won’t keep pursuing a guy that just ignores her, a thirsty man will get more and more elaborately obnoxious.
Can confirm. When i was younger I got random touches from girls and women. I never see guys doing that to girls
I was one guys in an office with 26 women. They’d grab my ass, whistle, cheer, when I came by with mail. Was so bad my boss had to call a meeting.
I worked in HR…
Bro you’re a victim
Charge her with sexual harassment
Oh wait, this doesn’t apply if the victim is a male, oops
i just dont think this is any of our business. Trust their friends and family and coworkers to sort it out and police themselves if any of its a problem.
Private conversations like this said in confidence, in safety of who you are with, i feel like its close to sacred. Its these places where we say silly shit, fucked shit and we nudge against guard rails, get self corrected called out in an environment that is most conducive to positive self correction.
Its just so fucked, even if any of it is deemed as ‘wrong’ or not, that its now a public trial.
The world nowadays can feel really confined with how pervasive recording is becoming.
I mean this was a conversation in a room with recording equipment, during a break in a livestream- not exactly a confessional or the break room.
This is far from an example of the pervasiveness of intrusive recording, when it was in a public forum explicitly designed to be recorded and broadcast.
Just because they were unaware a mic was live is no excuse- hot mics have gotten many reporters in trouble before and they should have some awareness of the possibility.
I don’t think you would have the same opinion if this was a male sports reporter caught saying: “She seems like a bitch, she’s lucky she’s so hot.”
Being a creep isn’t exclusive to men believe or or not.
Damn that’s heinous.
My alabaster Queen Kayte Christensen would never.
could it possibly be one of the same people? 🤔
No, this was an older reporter who was laid off years ago.
Reverse the genders in the current situation and there would be a lot more uproar
It’s wild bc the double standard is astounding. Yet, nothing is going to happen to those two women who were bath mouthing the players. Had it been reversed they would be calling for their heads as men. Especially with what just happened at Cornell.
Women have treated men like sex objects for TOO LONG!!!!! Something needs to be done about this. On the real, those players are most likely on the low trying to find out if whoever said anything is hot.
and 20 years later, he mentions it for the first time…..not, this guy is full of shit about most things
the reporter hes talking about had numerous quotes going into weird detail ofvplayers bodies.
And here are the comments that say “it’s different when a woman does it”.
Women cant rape men according to extreme left redditors
Edit: Lmao this sub asking for sources when its true on reddit. Funny how they ask for sources when it comes to their girlfriend but when X person gets accused of rape, its guilty until proven innocent. Funny how that works in their eye
(Citation needed)
Editing your post like a lil bitch lmao
cite your sources
“iF tHeSe WeRe MeN”
They weren’t.
I mean Sacramento is mostly short Indians and Mexican men so can’t blame the woman
So you’ve never been to Sacramento and you’re racist. Got it.
Ban DeMarcus cousins from the kings
Okay? Hot chick (presumably) can lift up my shirt whenever she wants
Oh my god a woman lifted your shirt oh no how will he ever move past this
Male and female dynamics are different. Let’s not get soft now 😭😭😭
Edit: I’m here to eat all your downvotes but you know exactly wtf I mean by this comment. Cheers
NOBODY CARES
