NBA Officials will focus on flopping violations during the 2026-27 season
Yeah Aight Bro
I swear every season they say the same thing. The rule gets enforced for like the first 10 games and then it’s never brought up again until next season.
its going to be so funny when they only call it on jordan poole just like the carrying emphasis
It’s the Ben Simmons 3pt shooting video of refereeing
Refs back in the lab 💪
FACTZ!!! 😂😂 #inthelab AH
This sub eats it up every time
I mean if they want to give it teeth. they need to make it reviewable, and make it a Free Throw + Possession as a penalty for flopping, counting it as a tech, so accumulate enough flopping penalties and you get suspended.
This is turning into the annual “Ben Simmons can now shoot 3s” workout video - boy cry wolf situation. I wonder what’s happened more times, Trump “winning” the Iran war, or NBA “dealing” with flopping, and then giving up 3 weeks into the season.
Trump winning happens like 4 times a month. It’s not even close. Imagine if Silver came out with a post saying that he will TOTALLY ANNHILATE flopping and rename it to SHAI GILGEOUSING because that’s what he does. I call him FTA (FREE THROWS ATTEMPTED)!!!
According to his own socials, he wins at least twice a day.
Focus on Flopping 2: Electric Bugaloo
The NBA’s focus on flopping for the 2026-27 season will be exaggerated and theatrical
Flopping is a problem but I also can’t stand people who don’t watch the games and just scoreboard watch and anyone that has a lot of FT they call a flopper or foul baiter.
There is a massive difference in how different players draw fouls. A guy who is aggressive and drives to the rim on every play (think Giannis) is different from someone who constantly falls looking for a foul
Also with Giannis it’s also tactical to playrough to prevent the and -1 and force him to make free throws
For sure. But I do hope this curbs a lot of the very talented players who initiate contact themselves and add over the top reactions to get more calls. Think Brunson, Luka, Embid, SGA (and obviously so many more)… these guys are so so good but it’s incredibly frustrating to see them resort to that nonsense and get rewarded for it
They will during preseason and then forget once the season starts.
Hey now, they said they would “focus” on it. Not actually flag it or do anything else about it.
It’s called the October rules
They focus on it for at most 2 weeks before returning to completely ignoring it again.
dont say shit bro they will dutifully enforce it (for the first week)
If its anything like NCAA’s effort from a couple years ago, expect a ton of them called in exhibition preseason games and then nothing ever again.
…same with the ‘Luka’ Rule that was never enforced other than on Ant once for some reason during an Lakers playoff game.
They definitely will! For about 5 games.
Philly about to be flop-city and they’ll allow it lol
The nba gets people interested in teams like OKc , who is very boring team because of all
Of u booger eaters start losing their minds over flopping . And despite all of your dopey proclamations that you’ll stop watching because of the flopping …what you NPCs don’t realize …you watch because of the flopping. You hate watch and it’s all The same to them at the end.
The San Antonio okc series ratings proves it . So just be honest with yourselves and just admit that you secretly love that shit because you love getting yourself mad …and getting yourself mad feels good.

“Lucy will hold the football for Charlie Brown without pulling it away.”
why are all the examples they showed where a flop shouldve been called on the defense??
the only two examples of offensive players they showed were not to be called flops???
offensive flops are just as bad for the game if not worse as defensive flops????
Can’t have their MVPs in the video for sure
Because they’re gonna address a problem that isn’t real.
The hilariously bad flops aren’t good for the game, but they’re rare and at least they’re funny and everyone can agree they’re bullshit. They’re also occasionally addressed now already.
The head snap, arm flail, stumbling over feet flopping that offensive players do possession after possession actually deceives refs consistently to the point of being tools in the arsenals of scorers. They’re difficult to spot in the moment, annoy fans of the defender, and fans of the offensive player will argue in favor of it because it helps their guy.
Scoring go up
It just seems like they want people to think they’re doing something about flopping since it’s such a big part of the NBA discourse, but really they like the big offensive numbers it produces and probably want to juice them even more.
true silver has explicitly said that he believes selling calls to the refs is part of the game smh
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I’m gonna guess this lasts a month at most
Last time they did this it was like 3 days.
And none of the calls were against SGA or Luka two of the worst offenders. There’s also no examples of those two in this video.
I know there’s other players in the league that do it, but playing against those two is a nightmare because they’re already skilled enough and then you throw in an extra 10 free throws every night.
its literally such a big issue because they purposefully ignore their biggest stars who have made foul baiting an integral part of their game
unless you start actually calling flopping fouls on specifically both Shai and Luka, its completely pointless. theyre who everyone watches and looks to, they have all the eye balls on them
They mentioned curry so they probably think that’s enough. The fact that SGA isn’t here means that this isn’t serious
Luka makes it so hard to like him. I just can’t respect the flop followed by the AUDACITY of yelling and whining at the ref after every single drive. I would actually be a fan if he didn’t pull that shit
I swear when Luka first came into the league he didn’t do half that shit, I was rooting for him because of that. I guess over time like any smart player he figured out what he could and couldn’t get away with.
They had bigger fish to fry (Chris Boucher and Alperen Sengun)
Porzingis got a tech on opening night and I didn’t see another one the whole season lmao
They pulled back soon after calling a flop on Gobert when he reacted to an elbow to the abdomen. He reacted because it was injured at the time.
More like one week
First national TV game they will call a few and the broadcasters will stroke the NBA and refs for enforcing the new rule. Couple weeks later it will go back to not being called.
Or not at all. Saying it is one thing but actually conveying it on the court is another. I’ll see believe it when I see it.
Wow youre very generous. I give it a week lol
A month from today probably
It’ll last until LeBron gets one, like the last time they tried this. I’m not even joking.
No it won’t because this favors the offense more, all of these are penalizing the defense
Ben Simmons working on 3’s type beat
Skinny Luka
Simmons shooting 3s
Healthy Kawhi
Refs calling flops
We are so back
And Warriors going to make a big move this year
Offseason endgame
Look forward to seeing a bunch of fines to role players in the first two weeks and then everyone forgetting about it the rest of the season
The second a team complains on behalf of a superstar it will go back to normal.
For example, they tried this when Harden was on the Nets in 21 or 22. Harden complained that he can’t play basketball without foul baiting. The Nets complained to the league. Back to star players averaging 10 fta.
Foul baiting is not flopping tho
It’s worse if you actually watch this video. “Head snaps” and falling for no reason after shooting 3s are explicitly NOT considered flops. Guys, those are the flops that are killing the game.
And every single example of what they said should be a flop was by a defender, while the examples of what “shouldn’t” be flops were all by the players on offense.
And some of the examples of defensive flopping were on plays where and offensive player did a full arm extension push off and therefore were clear offensive fouls.
And they went out of their way to point out that even if the play is correctly called as an offensive foul, you can still give out a technical for reacting too much to being actually fouled.
This wasn’t a “good idea but they won’t do it” thing. This was a “holy shit they are trying to make everything worse” video. We should all hope that the refs forget it exists.
So very much this.
Again if you actually listened they explained that you can flop and have a real foul on the play. Stop your group think.
basically just gaslighting us at this point
As soon as I realized none of the examples included SGA I knew we were cooked
They did talk about the stiff arm being called more but thats just one of his moves
At least you admit your raging bias.
Yeah, it was all on defensive players when the annoyance was with shit like SGA folding like a chair after Derrick White did not even touch him. That’s the shit people are upset about, not defensive flops.
So flopping by offensive players = 👍. Flopping by defense = 🤬. What a joke
To be fair, if this means Lu Dort’s out of the league, i’m here for it.
Scoring go up good scoring go down bad
Yeah… feels like most people didnt even watch the video, just making jokes about how it won’t last, but there are 0 examples of offensive flopping - it doesn’t even begin to address the issue
I’m angry I watched a 5 minute video about flopping that had nothing to do with what fans have complained about.
We need flopping calls for drawing minimal contact while throwing your body in directions that make no sense.
What is the enforcement action on these too? Are they going to review them post game and hand out fines again (with increasing penalties maybe leading to suspensions eventually for major repeat offenders?)? Let teams challenge, or even trigger automatic reviews (like, Seacaucus can call it in the way the NFL now does expedited review, and give a player a technical at next dead ball)?
Or just hope the refs can see them and call them better? Because I don’t think most of the missed “flops” in this video were because the refs weren’t interpreting the rules correctly (which is all these points of emphasis are meant to do… re-calibrate on everybody’s understanding oft he rules). The refs just didn’t see it until it was too late and they saw somebody falling and assumed they got pushed (instead of flopping).
SGA gonna be awarded two free throws plus two extra on the same play when they call his defender for flopping.
Protect your MVP status by the NBA. Ridiculous.
The example doesn’t look like a flop to me, would like to see what they say about Brunson’s head snap though, I think that is more of a flop
They choose a play where the snap is not that egregious, but the problem is that they explicitly say in the video “head snaps on their own are not considered theatrical or exaggerated.” So, Brunson and everyone else are clear to snap away.
I understood that as the head snap was ok because he was fouled. If he wasn’t fouled, maybe they’d consider the head snap a flop.
That would be inconsistent with what they say earlier in the video. In an earlier defensive example, it says you can have a play where both a flop by the defender AND the push by the offensive player are called. Actually getting fouled doesn’t forgive the flop. They state plainly that head snaps are not a flop.
Like your head doesn’t nearly snap in half when someone gently rubs your beard.
Only defensive players can flop we all knew this already…. Of course
I mean, Jalen Brunson just catapulted to the face of the league, they can’t have him get ejected every other game for snapping his head back
he could always stop snapping his head back. he’d still be a great star player without the flopping
Pretty sure as long as the fall is natural, it’s okay. Also, despite what you may dislike, offensive players who flop typically are following the rules, just exploiting. Defensive players who flop aren’t. Aslong as the O doesn’t kick out or hold the D with their flop, they’re still in the right
I’m not sure how you can come to the conclusion that a shooter who falls to the ground without any contact in order to get a whistle is “in the right,” but apparently the NBA agrees.
Well the nba is who determines who’s right and wrong so I go off them to get yo my conclusion and your last 4 words answers the question faster than me explaining
The NBA itself defines a flop as “a physical act that reasonably appears to be intended to cause the officials to call a foul on another player.” The head snap and post-3 falling are pretty much the main ways guys do that. Why else would you “sit down” after shooting? They are essentially pretending to have an anti-flopping rule, while carving out the most common flops so that they don’t have to actually call them, it’s comical.
Here are a few reasons to fall without contact: A player can be off balance or simply slip upon landing. Also, there are smart players who land on their butts when they see the defender is too close to keep from rolling their ankles. (Bradley Beal still had not learned this during his PHX days.) It’s a part of ‘Learning How to Fall’.
None of the reasons for falling can reasonably be determined (to get a whistle?) at game speed, so you have to break it down to two things: 1. Did the defender foul up top or below? 2. Did the offensive player kick their leg out AND make contact?
Everything else regarding falling down would require replay, so u/Kell_215 is correct.
i feel like i’m taking crazy pills talking to you people. i’ve watched siakim do exactly what he did in that clip above probably a dozen times, and it’s always obvious that he’s trying to get a call (and sometimes does). players on my own HS team openly celebrated successful flops like this lol
I don’t think Siakam was flopping on that 3 he just landed weird and chose to sit down instead of attempting to save himself. I do agree though they did not talk about the right kind of flops at all though.
They said why. You just want to bitch.
I sure do, because bitching seems appropriate here. Is the why you’re referring to that “this sit down motion is not exaggerated or theatrical?” That doesn’t make any sense. The NBA has a rule against flopping, and they define a flop as a “physical act that reasonably appears to be intended to cause the officials to call a foul on another player.” Riddle me this, why else would a shooter voluntarily sit down on the court after releasing his shot?
This makes me so fucking angry. This completely misses the point. There’s no way these people get paid to be this dumb. The issue that most people have is OFFENSIVE FLOPPING moreso than defensive flopping. Offensive flopping is what needs to be addressed.
Flopping on defense, while annoying, almost always puts the defender significantly out of position. Therefore, if the ref just doesn’t call the foul, the defensive player is automatically disadvantaged. The best way to address defensive flopping is to just not call the foul that they are baiting for. If it gets excessive, then call one on the next dead ball or made basket.
Offensive flopping is the huge issue that they are just 100% ignoring here. They say that head snaps and falling down randomly on jump shots ISN’T flopping which is ridiculous. The entire point is to trick the referee into thinking that there is excessive contact when there isn’t. It is the literal definition of flopping.
Yeah I can’t believe the two examples of “not flopping” were someone falling down for no reason after a shot and someone throwing their head back for no reason.
Avdija’s example in the clip wasn’t that egregious and I wouldn’t necessarily say that’s “theatrical” which is apparently the crucial difference, but plenty of dudes do hella exaggerated “head snaps” all the time and get rewarded for it, which people hate.
I didn’t really mind the Siakam clip as much. I’ve personally done this in pickup just as a preventative thing in case someone’s foot is there. I instinctively keep weight off of my ankles when landing in that situation.
Of course, I might be an outlier here considering that my username is very very accurate.
The way they call the head snap is not defined as theatrical…
They have the power to change that definition, and they just choose to leave it the same. So stupid.
1000000% you’re right but this league doesn’t give a shit clearly. It’s infuriating.
Then stop watching.
Everyone: this is bad for the sport and I want it to be better
You: (clearly brain damaged) just stop watching. Keep the product shit and try nothing.
Very “if you don’t agree with Trump, MOVE” vibes.
Thank you man. I was so confused as to why all the clips were defensive flops. Let them flop as much as they want on defense; the issue comes from getting knocked down by a light breeze on offense. I noticed a surprising lack of a certain Thunder star in these clips lol
There’s no way they don’t understand this. But this is what they want.
I really like how none of the clips were from SGA lol
They specifically said “head snap backs isn’t exaggerating contact” I tuned it off after that
That’s fine, then stop calling fouls when a player do that snap back
You have been banned from the league office.
You realize the whole point is a foul is committed regardless of of theatrics will be called, they’re trying to get fouls that are solely theatric with no ounce of foul out lol
What SGA does is the definition of theatrical. The faces he makes are like those drama masks for the emotions lol
Same thought. All they had to do was Google “SGA highlights” and the work is done.
Could also Google “why does everyone hate watching SGA”.
Looking for this, not one case showing OKC lol
And a bunch of them were still push offs from the offensive player that the flopper exaggerated. Kinda goes against their last area of emphasis. Even though they did bring up once in this that you can have a flop and push off on the same play.
Okc fans “everyone flops”. Lol
The only examples they used involving OKC were examples of non-flops.
I feel like this is the league saying they’ll keep letting OKC do what ever the fuck they want.
Fucking Lakers fans are morons. Do you really say this as a lakers fan with a straight face?
They did this a few seasons ago and it lasted like a week 💀
Last season too
Let’s focus on the carries and the traveling too plz.
[deleted]
This all focuses on defensive flopping. They had the audacity to say head snaps are not considered theatrical or exaggerated. What the actual fuck.
lmfao Siakam simply sits down, yeah because it was a half ass flop because he knew Chet wasn’t too close
What a joke man. NBA really likes the high scoring and stat lines
Not one SGA clip……
That’s how you can tell they’re not serious
“load up the Curry one that’ll make it real”
Also that Curry one that “should have been a flop” looked like he realized a guy was behind him and tried not to get tangled up with him.
Like, he took the bump and tried to avoid stepping on his teammate and getting hurt lol.
They’re specifically not looking at head snaps and falling to the ground for no reason while shooting which is SGAs bread and butter lol
Yes, it almost feels like they are blessing SGA with specific exemptions.
I thought the same thing. The reason people turned on the thunder in the playoffs was because of his flopping. Lol
Luka led the league in FTs and they didn’t have clips of him either so I’m not sure why SGA not being here is the problem
Edit: Luka was commiting acts of Terrorism in the finals SGA can only dream of doing
They can both be the problem.
Luka just plays the game the right way
“You know what I mean”
You’re high. Complaining to the refs on every trip down the court is the right way, while also trying to get fouled on every shot? I’ll take SGA not saying a word the refs over anything Luka does
You missed the joke homie
I would say it’s doubly worse then. NBA protecting their poster child stars but unless the league calls it out explicitly and publicly they’re going to continue doing this
ROFL 😂
Just watched that clip ⬆️
Sub glazes Luka like the 2nd coming of Jesus.
If Jesus was coming for a second time, a sub glazing him seems appropriate.
Even with my flair, I’ll be the first to call Luka a foul baiter. But I will also say that, unlike SGA, he stays on his feet 99% of his attempted draws.
Maybe you didn’t watch that clip someone posted above. Luka doing the non-contact butt slide twice
https://streamable.com/yewcfj
I’ll be the second to call him a foul baiter but the first to say he’s on his ass plenty
nah, Jesus is the 2nd coming of Luka.
I would glaze JC so hard and so deep if he came back
Those are both problems…
“So you hate waffles?”
SGA goes into shots knowing he will flop before he shoots.
Nba ragebaiting again
SGA not even top 5 flopper fr
Luka, Deni, Larsson, Trae, and Jokic top 5
Larsson mention. You know ball. Holy shit he is annoying.
One of my least favorite players in the league lol
Pele Larson?
I must say I’m not familiar enough with his game to disagree but i wasn’t aware of this lol
Ha
Haters gonna hate. All these dudes doing the same shit on every team. Some guys can keep scoring while the league and fans nitpick things to beat them, but some guys can still get buckets, the shots go in. They’re shooting one foul shot lots of times, not two. Scorers score go watch any level the rest of the players trying to stop that guy all night
As for Luka, I don’t feel he’s at the level of SGA based on wins and performance. And teams. OKC is built correctly, might have some holes off the bench early this season. Otherwise pretty ready. SGA plays well with a team. I’ve never thought that about Luka and I will keep saying it, I think in the end Dallas won the trade just getting away from Luka and the iso ball BS
SGA is the MJ of flopping.
They’ve been working overtime to make him the face of the league. No chance they’ll do anything to mess that up.
In either this or the push off one
sga lives in your head rent free n, he flops occasionally
SGA flops every 28.3 seconds
3 minutes of examples, and all of the flops are on the defense. They show two offensive flops at the end but say those aren’t to be called flops.
lol
Is this video a parody? “Head snaps are not considered theatrical or exaggerated” LMAO
Thank you. The one single clip they showed off an offensive flop and they said it wasn’t a flop.
It’s so on brand for the NBA to be focusing on defensive flopping while every fan on the planet is primarily concerned about offensive flopping. The one example they showed off offensive flopping was described as not flopping because apparently being theatrical with the head snap isn’t considered being theatrical.
Theatrical wasn’t even part of their definition previously, it feels like something they’re adding just so they can pick and choose which ones they like.
“any non-basketball action that is reasonably determined to be intended to cause the officials to call a foul on another player” is the definition of flopping in the 25-26 rulebook.
I love the NBA. Only sport I watch. I don’t even watch college until like the sweet 16. I love the NBA. And I’ll defend the league against the perpetual onslaught of haters who often have legitimate gripes. It’s so frustrating that they just completely ignore the concerns of the fans that I’m 100000% certain they’re all well aware of. Foul-baiting, offensive flopping, and complaining about calls. It’s so easy to address. They just keep ignoring the biggest issue in the league and it frustrates the hell out of me. That said, I’ll be watching games starting Saturday. I’m looking forward to the season.
I love basketball but not the league. To me the NBA is great because of the talent of its players. The NBA as an organization I’m not a fan of.
MLB has actually been making changes that improve the fan experience without meddling with the game much. NBA knows what it needs to do to achieve that but just refuses.
Even when they say they will make positive changes they just don’t. Their points of emphasis rarely stick. Half the time they achieve the wrong thing. The flop tech was introduced 3 years ago and they still haven’t done anything good with it. And it doesn’t look like that will change soon.
Yeah I don’t disagree with any of that. And me saying I love the NBA is more me saying what you said. I love watching incredibly talented players play the sport I love.
Can’t wait for this to be heavily enforced the first 2 weeks then never again after that
If by “heavily enforced” you mean “called 5x total to great controversy” I totally agree. Though I hope that I’m wrong and they crush it
And only called against bench players
Sure, sure and I’m the second coming of Ken Griffey Jr
Ken Griffey Jr. II
Juniorer
2 Griffey 2 Junior
Flopping is less of an issue than foul baiting.
The rules need to be redrawn so that defenders can play actual defense. I’m not sure how you do it, but man, the goal of an offense needs to go back to trying to put the ball in the basket
I would argue foul baiting is fine. If you fall for their pump fake and collide into the shooter, you should be punished. However, the refs need to enforce the rule where if the shooter initiates contact with the defender who goes straight up, it should be an offensive foul.
I think we should go the other direction with fouls. Let them be physical and not call so many ticky tack fouls. Let them play like it’s playoff basketball. Harder more physical defense. Less whistles, more ball.
As soon as the betting sites were granted advertisements during live events, I kbew any hope of defense was lost. Too many sites are based on high scores and player performance on offense that defense is devalued outside of blocks.
I’d argue they’re the same thing in slightly different forms.
They’re related but I wouldn’t say they’re the same thing. For example in the second and third clips (Curry and Garland), they’re exaggerated to sell contact that gave an actual advantage. Both clips were push-offs, not nearly enough to send a grown man flying but enough create a little separation. They didn’t actually create the alleged foul, but rather tried to sell it.
A good heuristic would be: if it weren’t for the foul call, would you still have done what you did? In both those cases yes, they were playing defense. They would’ve done it if they weren’t going to get the foul. But on the other hand things like the rip-through weren’t actually basketball moves. They wouldn’t be done if you couldn’t get a foul. Both cases involved embellishment but they’re not the same level of needing to be banned outright or needing to be penalized for embellishing, but still exist.
Respectfully disagree. I think it’s much easier to outlaw flopping by simply enforcing the rules that already exist.
Foul baiting is technically legal, but creates a less enjoyable fan experience
WHat are you talking about? offense is scoring more points today then any other time in NBA history. wtf lol
That’s what they’re saying, no? They want defense to be able to be stronger?
well idk maybe i misread, but they literally said “ he goal of an offense needs to go back to trying to put the ball in the basket”.
But ok, I agree with original statement of “rules need to be redrawn” but the problem here isnt offense, its defense not being able to catch up to the advancement of offense. Thats because teams, the NBA, sells tickets, and what sells tickets? offense.
IMO the real rule that needs to be enforced, would be traveling. Thats really where it gets hazy on how to stop it with strong defense. Offense can just do gather step, fake, and step thru and that would basically destroy any defender. Fix the gather step and have fans put more emphasis on defense, and the league may follow.
I think what they meant with the comment you cited is that offenses seek to put the ball in the basket by getting to the free throw line, and genuinely don’t even try to make the bucket.
It’s a bigger part of the game than I have ever seen, been watching NBA for 35 years.
Sure buddy.
For the first two weeks of the season, and then they will magically forget this was ever mentioned.
Fuck this league. 100% of the examples are flops by defenders, but a clear flop by Avdija as an offensive player is used as an example of when not to call it. A head snap is not considered “theatrical or exaggerated” even though that’s exactly what it is????
Yea i thought that was interesting too. How is a head snap not theatrical? It’s certainly not natural!
It’s just a way to make it harder for defense to compete and easier for offense to juice stats.
Even the very first example is Filipowski flopping specifically to show that Sengun is burying his shoulder right into the defender’s solar plexus. Clear offensive foul and they ignore it because of the flop. Yet when the offense wants to sell legitimate contact suddenly a head snap isn’t exaggerated. Awful double standard.
What do you mean? Often times in basketball I’m hit with the force of a speeding bullet knocking my entire head back almost off my body, all while being able to keep my dribble perfectly fine and then go up for a jump shot. Perfectly natural!
They say this every year
It needs to be reviewed after the games with eventual suspension. That’s how you stop it
It would work, but won’t be implemented because… it would work
idontbelieveyou.gif
Same song and dance
No examples of offensive flops?! I think that’s the main issue.
I like how the entire video just goes after defenders and nothing is going to be done about flopping while pretending to shoot in order to grift free throw
It’ll be focused on bad teams and non star players for a few weeks then forgotten
Holy shit this completely missed the entire point of superstar offensive play flopping to get free throws. We literally dont care about the rest of this crap.
Speak for yourself
Well i certainly didn’t upvote myself 9 times in only 20 mins since posting my comment.
Responding to Harlockwitcher~
Eh. That’s not a gotcha or anything. This is reddit, hive-minded takes are going to attract the hive-mind that cares.
Tell me, how many points did SGA or other floppers you’re trying to call out deservedly earn vs undeservedly unearn?
If the act of flopping is as obvious as so many, including yourself, seem to believe it is, then it shouldn’t be too difficult to answer that question. You’d simply need to watch each possession that the most infamous players have in each game and compile it together in a video. Slowing down the footage so that you can make a point to each one you believe deserved to be called for a flop.
Now my next question is; where is that video? By now with the amount of hate SGA seems to get you’d think at least one of ya’ll would’ve compiled this information by now. So… why has this narrative persisted without proper evidence to back it up? Oh… it’s the narrative that’s actually important isn’t it?
Literally see comments in this thread equating SGA falling to the ground to him attempting to flop… which is… just so asinine. Break falls are a real thing, look them up. People were begging for Steph to learn them to help his ankles nearly 10 years ago, but SGA suddenly is doing it too much for the reason to be anything other than flopping? The guy is averaging fewer free throws than he was 5 years ago, why wasn’t this noise around back then? I wonder…
Nah, I don’t wonder, you’re too obvious to actually delude anyone with more than a shred of critical thinking skills. Don’t worry, I’m sure the almighty upvote and downvote shall prove you to be right and others wrong.
…….dude. Are you okay? Like genuinely, are you okay?
The solution to flopping is to fine the player after the game a percentage of their contract which doubles for every infraction.
It’s so hard to recognize some flops during live game action relative to being able to watch the replay from different angles.
Send the flopping player the video replay and an invoice and do not reset the fines for the playoffs, keep it rolling so someone with 12 flop fines under their belts next one during the playoffs counts as their 13th.
If nothing else, we’ll get to see someone sweat out a million dollar flop during the playoffs.
I agree with this. In-game is too difficult and star players will still get away with it. Post game fines would be easier to assess. It should also be a post game technical foul so too many times will cause a suspension.
My vote is have an NBA flopping review squad in NY. Every foul is reviewed by them. So for example: SGA flops, shoots 2 FTs per usual, but in the backend this team reviews it, contacts the refs during any TV timeout. Then before play resumes, refs give SGA a tech, 2 FTs to the other team, play on…Now SGA is playing with a tech so he now needs to play the game the right way or he gets another and gets ejected.
I mean that’s my idea but there’s legit like 1000 EASY ways to prevent flopping, wheather its in-game or post game…. it’s ridiculous that they never done anything about it.
Every example they showed in this clip was defensive. I really hope they focus on offensive flopping as wel. It’s gotten too hard out of control. Defensive flopping has been taught to kids for at least four decades. I remember being taugh in the 80s to fall down when taking a charge.
Imagine the season long prop bets on how much a certain player will be fined over the year for flops.
Call it the flop tax.
This needs to happen after every game and fines handed out retroactively. After a few games, the behavior should stop pretty quickly with an escalating fine, hell even make it ultimately suspension eligible.
SGA broke after 1 quarter
How many damn things the refs gonna focus on? Nothing will change. How about they just call the game by the rules already?
Have heard this one before
I don’t believe you
I’ll believe it when I see it…
Will they, though?
For the first two weeks maybe
No they won’t
Theatrical exaggerated and inconsistent with the contact. Head snaps are fine. Falling down without contact is fine.
The tyranny of Shai will continue.

This has to be ragebait right? These are the flopping examples they decided to pick and highlight? I honestly think it has to be ragebait
the examples are mostly fine, they wanna avoid any sorta narrative driven examples, like SGA. Note how none of the players used as the bad examples of a flip or whatever is any of the players constantly in the news cycle for flopping.
If you think that makes it ragebait and not the opposite, i just disagree, they want to show the examples not create weird narrative discussion of a particular player.
What they didn’t really do, is connect all the dots of what they are showing here… i want to see more about the pushoff into dangerous closeout and how thats called. because the pushoff is apparently not longer okay, the closeout was never okay, but if the pushout is not called incorrectly, and they closeout dangerously to recover… what are the refs options? must he not call the next foul? its gonna be ugly im sure.
You don’t seem to realize that hand-picking flopping examples to specifically avoid what you call “narrative driven examples” inherently has an agenda baked into the decision.
If they’re serious about this, who gives a shit about what the narrative is in the media? Just show the flopping examples that are representative of what they’re trying to get away from, regardless of who is committing them. If it includes SGA, (and it absolutely should, if we’re talking representative examples) then so be it.
You’re literally excusing politics in the name of trying not creating politics, which is the entire reason NBA hasn’t been able to get any of this right so far.
and the agenda is to keep the topic on topic, which you are still failing to do, even with their added effort to avoid it… why you would think i dont understand this when i literally GAVE IT A NAME which you pointed out here, i have no idea.
If they are serious about this, then they want the topic discussed within the scope of the rule applying to the overall league, not focused on a singular player, which was literally the agenda here, and that agenda is entirely fine. The only way the narrative players are mentioned is because of their absence, and id note that you are still HARD trying to bring up those players to me, even when half of my original message was not about their absence at all, proving my point that drawing attention to single players will destroy the discussion.
There was no winning for them here because the world is always a bit gray for stuff like this, They can include the narrative players, and the discussion is entirely about those particular players and their inclusion(imo), they can exclude them and hope for some discussion of the topic at hand, and know that the absence will be noted by people who badly want to just discuss particular players. I think they took the side with the most potential for properly scoped discussion of the topic, rather than isolated discussion of single players.
What you can’t really do is question my understanding when i literally painted the very picture you are trying to say i dont understand, and you just stated the same shit back to me and your only addition was that it was an “agenda” rather than a decision. Your counter argument is literally just you taking the opposite side of the framework i stated in my original message.
Its absurdly obvious what my stance is, and because you disagree, you resorted to insulting my intelligence as if im just not clearly of the opposite opinion of you and its rather pathetic, and you should try to be better.
Here’s an idea, and hear me out, flag a potential flop, if it’s then deemed a flop, eject the player whenever there’s time to deem it a flop.
Very, very, very simple fix tot his problem.
Instant ejection seems kind of harsh. Id go with a technical.
Escalating fines too, hit them in the wallet
If the goal is to end flopping, an ejection would certainly get the job done
Refs already let emotions play too big a role, to allow them to eject someone for 1 action that’s subjective doesn’t sound fun
Card or warning system would work too. One flop = yellow card, 2 flops = ejection.
Right just adopt the soccer model. Not difficult. Free throws fucking suck to watch
Alright sweet so Bluegillgeous Alexander gets to keep flopping. Cool
Didn’t they say this before? I get seeing and calling fouls in real time can be hard to decipher if it’s a flop or not but sometimes it’s so egregious and in their face there isn’t really any excuse lmao
Don’t they say this every season?
*** for preseason and the first 10 games of the regular season
How long will this last? because I remember Launching yourself to the defender to get a foul call was an offensive foul and that lasted like 1 month.
How in the world is a head snap not considered flopping? It is the exact same idea as falling down. There is no natural contact that makes your body move that way, certainly not anything that would allow you to keep your dribble while doing it hahah
It’s all just so arbitrary.
Same thing with last year they posted a bunch of stuff they are focusing on then December hot and suddenly every ref forgot that they were calling those
I believe it when I see it
Fool me once…
Yeah okay buddy
