Rui Hachimura: “You know, it was a great 3-4 four seasons with the Lakers. You know, I think I had a great time. They took really good care of me”
So many “you knows” lmao.
Meh English ain’t his first language… you know
Not even a second language thing, people just use filler words. It would be the same thing in Japanese, he would just be saying “eto” instead.
Up there with Day’Ron Sharpe.
And so many “take good care”
It’s a translation of common Japanese phrases that are used to soften one’s opinion by assuming that the listener already knows what the speaker is saying i.e. だろう?、でしょうか、ね?、じゃない?、やっぱり.
Coming off too strongly opinionated is poor etiquette in lots of Japanese interactions; although I think for Hachimura it has simply become a habit (he’s worked in America for years now).
I live in Japan, majored in Japanese, and see this commonly with Japanese people speaking English.
Noticed Bron does that too on his pod, wish Nash could coach him out of it.
You know it.
One of my favorite role players in recent years. He never complained about his role and on top of that would go long stretches during a game w/o touching the ball but still shoot the ball at a high clip. If you count the FIBA games this past summer, I think he shot over 50% from the 3pt in 15+ straight games. The only thing that sucks about Rui’s game is he might be one of the worst finishers inside for a guy his size and he hates rebounding lol
You had me until the worst finisher part. Dude has amazing touch around the rim. How can you watch Jarred Vanderbilt play and think Rui is in that category? I recommend an optometry appointment.
He is one of the worst finishers for an offensive minded player at his size. Vandy isn’t in the same league offensively
Meh, he’s not as bad as Vando but he definitely whiffed a lot. Idc though I will always love Rui
He’s right though. The problem with Rui wasn’t his touch, it’s his lack of improvisation. He was very easy to disrupt or block around the rim because he basically had just one move.
And I say this as a massive Rui fan who was gutted he isn’t back (tho I understand the rationale)
Are you serious? If he didn’t have a clear dunk he would not be able to finish. Comparing those two is dumb. Rui has way more offensive game but finishing isn’t one of his strengths.
Rui has a great ability to get to the rim but he hasn’t developed a consistent soft touch.
He did complain about his role under Ham.
Everyone gets a pass for complaining about Ham.
Not around the Thanksgiving table though
It does hurt a little to see him in a clippers shirt ngl
Fuck I love Rui. Hope he gets to play on a good team again soon
I think he’ll have a career season and get traded at the deadline to a contender.
He is, this current season obviously 😀
gonna miss him, was a great player even with his defensive issues.
Rui come back (at a reasonable salary).
I don’t care that all he did well was shoot the ball, I love Rui. Such a dawg in the postseason. Gonna miss him
To all those saying he took a shot at the Lakers before: suck it!
We love you too Rui. Hopefully you come back someday
I’ve been a big fan of Rui since he was on the Zags. Any idea how the Clippers feel about him? I am guessing he will start over Derrick Jones. Does anyone have details on the Clippers plans for him?
Pretty sure he’s locked as a starter
My man
I’m gonna miss him so much 🥲 genuinely one of my favorite Lakers
Gonna miss that dude I hope he does well.
Hachimura might have a break-out year. He has been getting better and better every year. Now with Ingram being injured and Beal staying injured, etc. Hachimura can really take the reins of this team. I think he will surprise a lot of people. His mid-range is one of the best in the game and he has become a knock-down shooter.
Rui “You Know” Hachimura
Love Rui and glad he gets to stay in LA for now. Unfortunately I assume the Clips will move him to whoever is willing to offer multiple seconds at the deadline.
His LA hand signal doesn’t translate to the Clippers
‘You know! it’s a shit show 😂🤭
He’s like the modern day Mario Chalmers in that he was the teammate LeBron (and later, Luka) loved shouting at. Not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.
With more touches, this is rui’s all star year
Lol real ones know the lakers need a player like Derrick Jones Jr more than someone like Rui.
RIP Rui Hachimura
Considering lakers weakest position is the power forward. Kind of baffling they wouldn’t field a competitive offer for him since he’s at about 15 mil AAV.
He doesn’t rebound, can’t attack close outs outside of a one dribble pull up, no rim protection, low 3s attempts, no rim pressure, no ball handling, no passing, all he does is shoot on low attempts. He’s a 6’8 luke kennard(Luke actually does more than him offensively but you get the point)
Gotta give him some props though. He shot some bullshit 3p% over his entire Lakers tenure, especially during the playoffs. So much so that he currently holds the all time career playoff 3 point percentage record lol.
Also, he attempted 4 in the regular season and 6 in the playoffs per game over the last 2 seasons. That’s not low volume unless you’re Steph, Dame, or Klay.
yeah thats all true but that one dribble pull up 🤤
Crazy to see lakers fans say this when last year he was probably the 3rd best player multiple games even playoff games. Switch up is crazy.
He’s a deeply flawed player. You need to put him on the spurs or something to justify the $$
Do we wanna ignore the 228 games where he was the 4th-5th best player on the team? Small sample size playoff performances get worshiped way too much. He played the literal best he had ever done before in his entire career. If that’s sustainable, good for him, but we have a lot of tape to say otherwise
Our weakest position is center not pf
We have plenty of playable 4s but only one player over 6’9 on the roster
Who are these starting caliber 4’s? Mamu and Jake and vando are all bench players.
Mamu is better than rui at everything but shooting, if he’s not a starting caliber 4 then neither is rui. In the playoffs I’d rather have mamu straight up, rui cannot defend
Zaire and thybulle can play flex 4 minutes too, meanwhile our backup center is the corpse of Kevin looney
thybulle
lol. He maybe can stretch to a 3, but saying he can play 4 is hilarious. Also, he’s only played like 45 games in the last two seasons. Some very serious wishful thinking with this one.
lol here’s the thing. We saw Rui start in the playoffs last year already. And we also saw he was quite good in some of those games. I can almost bet you didn’t even know who mamu was before he even signed with the lakers. You watched some highlight clips of him and now you think a dude who has only ever started 28 nba games across 5 years is better at EVERYTHING? Crazy talk
Really shallow take. Our biggest offseason need by far was a center. After that, it was probably a backup center that can rebound. After that, it was probably a wing defender. Rui was none of those things. He’s the kinda player that would improve pretty much any team because of his shooting, but sadly the Lakers had a many other issues to solve and so we were one of the few teams that couldn’t prioritize signing him
We got a center. Did we address the power forward position at all? Nope
Don’t worry we replaced him with a guy who is a worse fit as a 4 but also doesn’t really work as a 5 especially given the teams personnel who also hasn’t proven himself in the playoffs, as a legit starter, or a guy that can handle big minutes even though they’re pretty close in age
Which guy you talking about?
Mamu
Watch mamu play basketball. He’s a better overall player for this team
How so? He’s a better fit offensively, but even then Rui was still a good fit on that end and Rui is just a better defender and a better fit defensively. The defensive fit/talent on a team led by Luka and ar is more important than offensive fit/talent.
Im not trying to say mamu can’t prove me wrong, just that he hasn’t proven what I’ve stated unlike Rui. And being a proven playoff performer matters whether you wanna say it or not, especially for a team that’s trying to win a championship
