I don’t think Bron would have made it all about himself tbh. He doesn’t necessarily want to be “the guy” anymore; he’s an old man and he knows that’s not in his or the team’s best interest.

He was proactively deferential to Luka once he came to LA, and I think he’d have done the same in NY. He wants to save his body and be able to contribute in the big moments, because what’s best for the team is what’s best for Bron’s legacy. And of course, strictly on the court he’s always been unselfish with the spotlight, almost to a fault.

He is ring chasing at the most accessible and acceptable place. If he would’ve joined the Knicks or Spurs it would’ve been considered disgraceful

This is by far the best place if he wants to ring chase. They don’t have a true proven superstar like Giannis or Jokic who people would say carried LeBron to a chip. They also aren’t a great team recently like NY or San Antonio or OKC where all of a sudden he’d get 2016 KD comps.

Embiid is great but super injury-prone and unproven in the playoffs. Even if they won the chip and Embiid took home FMVP the narrative would be “Bron had to show him how to win” like it was with D-Wade and Bron after 2012. Philly despite their lack of success lately is also a very serious organization that’s shown it’ll do what it takes to be competitive. It’s a genius move from both sides.
