“I’m hearing some things out of that area that you know that they’re concerned he’s not showing up to media day… they are legitimately concerned that he might play for the qualifying offer.” via James Ham on ESPN 1320 regarding Jalen Duren
Turning down 200m to not be the guy is absolutely stupid imo. You’d think they offered him a vet min.
Don’t care how much you ‘believe in yourself’. You’re a loose ball dive away from losing it all.
Outperform that contract and go get the bag you feel like you deserve.
It says to me that he knows this is the absolute peak his value is ever going to be which is kind of a worry too. How do we know the dude won’t stop putting the work in once he’s paid? Pistons could be worried about that
That brother is not playing in Detroit this year.
I don’t see how they can possibly salvage this relationship. You need buy in from your star players.
I don’t think Detroit views him as a star player. He’s good in the regular season but the playoffs were really bad. They also told him to lose weight even though Duren clearly is not out of shape
Muscle still equals weight. He can’t move as fast as he needs to at that size. Hence why they want him to maintain a more slimmed down physique.
They are offering him 200 million dollars they clearly value him
Can’t disagree with any of that. I’d say the contract they have offered him, 40 mil a season, does put him pretty firmly in star territory. What I mean is that you can’t have a 40 mil a season malcontent and expect to have a good season.
You can be ripped and muscular while lacking sufficient conditioning / endurance. It looked like that was part of the issue in the playoffs. And, totally a personal observation, dude seems to love cultivating the image of a big tough guy that flexes as a celebration. He should spend some more time developing an offensive game over looking like an 80s action star.
My man, they wouldn’t have offered him $40m a year for 5 years if they didn’t view him as a star lol
They are trying to be cautious and they know he needs to continue developing to get to where they want to be, but straight up that offer inherently means they value him a lot and see him as part of that’s core.
The weight thing is about not needing to carry as much muscle mass, they think the lower foot speed and mobility that comes with weighing that much is a bad trade off so that’s what that is based on…I feel like they could’ve mentioned that more constructively than build it into a contract when vibes were already bad though.
He has bad ankles, he’s been injured due to that multiple times before, maybe there is concern that as he ages if he doesn’t thin out even a little bit he will become more injury prone?
They want him more agile. Look at Paul Reed who definitively outplayed him in the playoffs and by the numbers did as well in the regular season. Hes super quick out of the pick and roll and able to get free for short roll plays when Cade gets blitzed + able to switch on defense and be a general nuisance and incredibly impactful player. They want more of that.
I mean he isn’t a star player. Definitely not yet.
He’s low key Javale McGee with slightly better focus.
I don’t ever recall Javale looking checked out in the post season though.
That’s a star lol
[deleted]
Money helps. Them maybe raising it a token amount and him realizing no one else is going to guarantee him $200m in tbe next couple of weeks.
Buy in goes both ways. You have a young All NBA player and you make him a bullshit offer. Sours negotiations from the start.
BS offer? 40m/ when they were benching him for BBall Paul in their most important games is a BS offer?
The initial offer they made around 20 mil was what initially offended him, and it doesn’t seem like he has gotten over it.
The fact that they now offered 40, kind of proves they DID lowball him.
If your employer knows your value is \(100K per year and they come at you with a \)50K per year offer, you’d kiss that boot and accept it, or would you feel offended? The fact that your employer then comes up to \(100K wouldn’t be proof to you that they knew the initial offer was a lowball one? You don’t think the Pistons knew he was worth \)200M when they offered him $100M, a full 50% less?
He will until he’s trade eligible
After that? Straight to basketball jail
New Orleans?
Basketball hell is very clearly the Kings
At least the Pelicans have made the playoffs more than once in the past like, 15 years and when they had AD they at least tried to build a complimentary roster around him with Jrue and Boogie
To be fair you said jail initially, which made me think of the Jazz who are known to tank for quality talent, but then hold their players hostage and only trade their drafted talent for an overhaul.
But the Jazz actually look good this year so I was confused until I saw you later put hell lol.
And I agree the Pels actually try, things just don’t come together for them.
The Duren for Turner rumors make some sense for both teams
Once he takes the QO the trade market will be interesting. He’ll be ineligible to sign a new deal until free agency so S&T will be off the table.
There’s probably a lot of teams that would be interested in adding him on a $10 million deal even if it’s just a rental.
He’s doing Detroit a favor. Getting wrecked in the playoffs and then feeling “disrespected” by a $40m/yr offer while his agent is openly flirting with the Kings isn’t a red flag, it’s flashing neon lights.
Langdon should be helping him pack his shit.
If the team can engineer a sign and trade? Sure. But if ends up walking for nothing?
No, that is not helping the Pistons.
Sunk cost fallacy of paying him would be worse
He’s a 22 year old coming off an All NBA season who wants what he’d get on the open market. I don’t know why you all are so intent on shitting on him.
Did you watch the playoffs
I did. That has nothing to do with what I said. Reddit loves being sarcastic without adding any actual argument of substance.
A lot of young players struggle in their first play offs.
Now if he takes the QO, which I can’t believe he will, and AGAIN looks limited in the post season with no new counters for when take away his favorite actions, then it might lower his market value.
With the current CBA there is no ‘open market’.
I would say the fact he is not even going to make more money (and will actually make less) if he takes the qualifying offer and then a max. Secure the bag first and then you can bullshit and force a trade
Don’t worry, we will all shit on the kings too for paying him what he thinks he’s worth if it comes to that.
He had a chance to get it on the open market. No one gave it to him.
RFA is not the open market
I think Detroit should hold the line but let’s be honest here: there is a risk in letting him go, whether via trade or free agency, if it turns out that his playoff performance was more the product of youth and inexperience as opposed to some kind of permanent flaw in his potential as a player
I think it’s more likely that he will be better with time and experience. But if I’m a GM trying to navigate issues around cap room and roster construction, yeah, I’m not sure I wanna pay the asking price to find out.
Yeah I think people are underestimating the massive loss of value if you let a 22 year old, 11 WAR All NBA player walk for nothing.
If they can’t salvage the relationship they really need to figure out a sign and trade, losing that much value for free would be brutal.
I believe there was something said at one point about teh actual thing he feels disrespected over was the pistons offering some cheeky cheap contract offer at some point early in the season. Now he feels the pistons shoudl have to make up for that disrespect by paying overages.
he might be playing in Detroit this year, it’s next season that becomes less and less likely
I mean logistically he is going to have to, and if he takes the QO, he can’t sit there and pout, he has to go out and play for a contract again like last year
As a pistons fan, get this guy out of here. You’re not that guy, pal. I’d be comfortable with the max if he had an outside game, but can’t tie that up in a rim-runner.
I just don’t get how a 22 year old who massively underperformed in the playoffs has the gall to expect 200 million
I get being “insulted” by a lowly offer but by god man you’re getting 190 million dollars offered to you!!!! That’s beyond just generational wealth man it’s objectively stupid on his part
Because for some guys up until this point in their lives everything had worked out for them. Its like the Winklevoss twins in the Social Network. They cant fathom that they could get hit by a car tomorrow and lose 100 million
Players get paid based on regular season performance, not the playoffs. See DeMar DeRozan, Zack LaVine, Sabonis, Malik Monk, Keegan Murray… oh wait lol.
has anyteam that gave those players the bag been better off?
i dont see it. Maybe i dont follow them that well.
Dawg wtf is your account it jumps from heat pumps to economics to drinking cannabis
This is either a 15 year old or a divorced 40 year old dad replying lmao go eat a fat one buddy
You just gave a guard a max rookie extension and he has the outside game of a paraplegic
Ausar at 30 mil a year is far from crippling and Ausar has been better in the playoffs than duren
It’s a max contract on a guard who can’t do shit from outside and just averaged fewer points than Duren did despite Duren being absolutely shit in the playoffs
It’s actually just as crippling, especially in a team that needs shooting lol
His deal isnt a max and he’s not a gaurd lol
And his deal is exactly why im fine moving off Duren with his salary demands. Paying two players 30/yr+ who cant shoot limits roster building options significantly.
You can say “max contract” over and over again and it’s not going to change the fact that Ausar’s \(155M is \)132M less than Duren’s max.
Obviously if Duren was willing to accept the amount Ausar got the deal would’ve been done months ago.
He’s also the steals leader, first team all defense, and maybe the best perimeter defender in the whole league. Cleveland’s entire offensive game plan in their series was based on avoiding Ausar. That’s a pretty big impact.
Ausar’s deal is not a max. It actually came in below what most people were expecting it to be by a few million per year.
The team has shooting now by adding Isaiah Joe
Ausar is much better than Duren
we didn’t though? we paid him $100 million less than the max
They did not give him a max lol
The pistons are paying Ausar what amounts to 16% of the cap. It’s not that big of a deal. It is not the max. His brother got the max, I believe.
His brother also did not get the max. The max is 250 for 5 years. So far the only max player from that class is Wemby, who turned down the 30% max at 300mill
He’s literally one of the best defenders in the league. He can guard all 5 positions. His defense is why he got paid. Duren is not a good defender
Oh he’s a top 5 defender in the NBA
The problem is that he’s a wing/guard and the impact of those players defensively just is not as big, plus his lack of offense
And he’s not even half as good as his twin brother who is way more aggressive, a way better playmaker and gets you 15ppg+ despite no outside shot
You obviously have no clue what you’re talking about. You’re two takes are incredibly wrong. Enjoy the rest of your day arguing with people on reddit Mr. 1% commenter lol
You’ve literally never had a good take in your life
Elite hating lmfao
Oh i’m sorry Ausar has an insane outside game, he’s prime Curry
And he’s the best perimeter defender in the league, duren isn’t the best at anything but benefiting from Cade
Salary dump him for picks and prepare for when KAT available
Plus, he doesn’t even have athletic and defensive skill like Ben Wallace which Pistons needs rn.
I can not for the life of me understand fans who get so upset by players trying to negotiate to get the most money possible.
Yeah he might not deserve it but so what? Why wouldn’t he try? All this stuff that gets leaked to reporters is just the agent or team trying to put public pressure on the other side and you guys fall for it every time
Hes good but hes not worth what hes asking. Detroit is probably right not caving here.
High stakes game of chicken lol. Who is going to blink first? Who has more to lose?
How is this even a question? Duren just finished playing a series where he almost got benched, if you’re Detroit trade him for anything and let another team overpay him
I think the plan was to use his bird rights to maximize team assets. If he walks, or they trade him for QO money, they basically lose out on \(30M-\)40M worth of basketball player.
I personally don’t believe his bluff one bit and if I were the pistons then I would hold firm. No sane person is going to cost themselves \(30M-\)200M off principle. And if he’s insane, fuck it, you can’t negotiate with terrorists
They can’t trade him until he signs the contract. That’s the problem
We can do a S&T, but his base year comp means unless he signs a true max contract his outgoing salary is far lower than what he’s signing for.
Sabonis and the Wolves 2031 first it is then!
Duren obviously. The entire rfa system is set up to eliminate player choice, there’s a reason that nobody every takes the QO
The Pistons have a massive amount to lose as well. If he walks for nothing where are they?
Better spot than if he is locked into too big of a deal. In this new CBA you can’t fuck up with the wrong player tied to a mega deal.
Losing him for nothing is better than crippling their franchise for the next 5 years. The thing with guys like Duren is they show who they are early on but teams have hope that they can improve. It’s not any different from Ayton.
It’s definitely a lose/lose but I think they’re still better off than duren
I think its an interesting argument about who has more to lose, I can see both sides of it.
Detroit stands to lose the best center prospect they have had in a decade, with the team being too good now to draft that high again. They may have an extremely disgruntled Duren on a 10 mil deal this year who will likely milk any injuries and sit whenever possible if he feels his max is secured elsewhere. There is a situation where Duren is maxed on a different team next year and Detroit gets 0 assets in return.
Duren stands to lose probably about 10 million even in a best case, and opens himself up to some major injury risk if he gets hurt this year. If things go poorly, he could lose probably up to 100 million. I don’t really see any future where he isn’t paid atleast 20 million, even if he gets hurt next year. He will be in the NBA for a decade plus, the question is where is he playing and what is he making.
Even if he gets hurt playing on the QO next year teams will line up to throw 150+ mil contracts at him. Hes easily a 30/yr player.
I agree. It’s really disingenuous for people to compare him to say Nerlens Noel, who was averaging 8 and 7 when he turned down his deal. That was insane.
Yea if Walker Kessler was able to get 32.5 a year as a RFA a team will figure out how to give Duren something like 35 a year as a UFA. Just to sell something to the fans. Especially with the new lottery system
I mean thinking really long term it’s no way he ever gets 35% or maybe even 30% of the cap From the pistons. Maybe if he goes to the kings he could be a centerpiece and get that from them
Pistons already blinked, we met his ask and he still wouldn’t take it. I dont know what more there is to do than find a trade partner
There’s no realistic way to trade him right now. Cap rules say his outgoing salary only counts for 50% for salary matching purposes, while it counts 100% incoming for the team that trades for him.
If the Pistons just give him the contract he wants with the plan to trade him, the earliest that can happen is 3 months from now. So they’d have to take the risk that he doesn’t have something happen that destroys his trade value, that the counterparty to the proposed trade doesn’t get fired, etc.
and also risk that the contract they end up giving him doesn’t instantly turn up every team’s nose but the kings, which also kills their leverage
They did blink to an extent, although the weight clause is definitely not something Duren’s camp wants. You would know better then me, do you think any chance they amend it to a fully guaranteed contract? I think he would sign if they did.
Duren… playing for 9M… getting hurt and never seeing a sizable post-rookie contract again…
Playing for a QO at this time pretty much means he’ll suit up a few times then sit out a lot of games with a sore hammy or something to prevent injury, no?
He was a walking 18⁄10 (and 20⁄11 toward the end of the season), but it’s the defense that makes that max sooo questionable.
59 blocks in 70 games for Duren. Ingram had 55 and Bilal had 54, for perspective.
Duren is just below PJ Washington, Paul Reed, Payton Watson, Goga, all of whom played less minutes.
Blocks isnt an all encompassing rim defense stat but Duren is only above average rim protector based on opponent fg% and expected fg%. I just dont get why the Piston moved on from Beef Stew if they weren’t prepared to pay Duren and didnt expect to take another step up as a rim defender.
Beef Stew’s health isn’t reliable. But we probably should’ve explored other options.
Thats fair. I just think if they werent prepared to pay Duren, I don’t know that moving him was the right move
Been a big proponent of Duren as long as he’s been in the league, that freestyle video made me completely out he seems so dumb lol
That’s what did it for me, too.
I like rap.
So him putting whatever that freestyle is, out there to show off, as a flex even… shows me poor judgment.
“Right then, right there. That’s when I knew Jalen Duren was not that guy. Because being that guy means exercising good judgment. And to be quite honest with you, the only thing good about his rap video is that it ended.” -LeBron HappyPeak_7818
This guy is fucking insane. Dudes gonna end up losing like \(50m in career earnings out of this. \)40m is like exactly what he’s worth and the pistons are in the best position to pay him it
I think too many fans have been focused on how bad/risky the Q.O. would be for Duren personally and not realize that it would actually be terrible for Detroit as well. Letting players that good leave for nothing but cap space is seen as disastrous and there’s a reason why no team lets that happen as a rule. Cap space value is at an all time low right now. Trades and drafting is how all the teams are building good rosters. Pistons aren’t getting back value equal to him if he leaves that way.
Yeah Detroit does not want this to happen unless it’s a sign and trade because once you’re over the cap it’s best to stay over the cap especially if you’re not about to have any bird rights for your upcoming free agents.
For example Duren on a \(40 million contract keeps Detroit over the cap but under the tax and allows them to eventually trade that money to stay in that space. If he takes a \)10 million QO they’ll still be over the cap but no longer have the flexibility for that other $30 million. Him taking the QO would be disastrous to them being able to build around Cade in the future.
It would be much better to get him off the team than extend him long term the fit is terrible anyway I just wanted to be able to trade him
Very true, it would be a lose/lose if he’s that dumb.
If it’s lose/lose why is Duren the only one who is “that dumb” if they don’t reach an agreement?
because they already offered Duren the money he wants $200mil.
The franchise can recover more easily than the player, since they have the increase in cap space by only paying him \(9.6 mil vs \)40 mil the can sign another center.
How on earth are they going to get another lottery pick center that they developed into an All-NBA player? Those guys are extremely rare and the team isn’t picking in the lottery anymore.
What center are they signing that’s as good as Durren?
Because the pistons have made fair offers and he’s declined them. To each their own if they want to argue that a team is dumb for not overpaying when the other side could be just as disastrous, but by all accounts except duren’s own camp, the pistons have upped their offer every time beyond what is seen as fair value and he’s declined it.
If I’m Detroit I’m playing chicken.. he signing that deal before Oct 1. He don’t play defense like that and was schemed out the playoffs. You cant trust a promise from the kings
Exactly. We can give up 19⁄10 with average defense for 10⁄8 with good defense.
Where is the 10⁄8 coming from when they traded Stewart? Trading Steward gave Duren even more ammo.
Problem is you may not get either
Probably not this season. It won’t be that difficult next season.
If Pistons trade Duren for Myles Turner + Rollins I think they make the ECF this year
He must fucking hate Detroit for some reason.
They offered him a take it or leave it 20 mill a year extension last off-season then put weight clauses in their offers this off-season. The Pistons obviously don’t value him highly and that has obviously ruined the relationship.
Ah yes offering a dude 40 mil a year who averaged 10 8 2 on 50% shooting in the playoffs is the pistons not valuing him. The weight clause is not a Zion weight clause because he is too fat it’s to stop him from getting more muscle. He needs to be more agile not stronger.
I mean no blame goes to Ausar for clogging up the space where Durren should be operating in? The magic were able to just camp the lane and leave multiple wings on Detroit wide open because they have zero ability to do anything. The guy didn’t play up to his standards but he’s also 22 and got schemed out of the series.
Why did his defensive rebounding fall off in the playoffs? Why was he losing rebounds to Donovan Mitchell? Was that because of our offensive spacing too?
12 defensive rebounds per 100 down to 9 in the playoffs. Dreb % from 26.4% to 19.7%.
ausar is willing to be paid less than Duren. So….
You are not wrong it is a genuine concern. You basically have to go find a stretch five to cover Ausars offensive deficiencies. Most Pistons fans try and ignore it though.
You must have not watched the series if that was your conclusion. The issue with what you said is ausar not only played better than duren but also duren looked like he wasn’t giving any effort. There is no reason why duren who averaged 10 rebounds in the regular season was at 8 in the post season. Especially when you consider how many bricks were being thrown during the magic series. This dude lost his minutes in crunch time to Paul fucking reed. I love Paul reed but a 40 mil center shouldn’t be getting out played and out hustled by a bench center.
Last year was his first great season and he stunk in the playoffs, and despite that they offered 40 a year. The Pistons aren’t the ones who ruined the relationship.
Where’s this $20mil talks last years come from?
Been stated last season he also wanted the $40mil extension, even less of that type of player then.
He is too heavy. If you don’t see that, then you just aren’t watching him play.
lol dude is going to cost himself 10’s of millions. I can almost guarantee it. All because the team offered 20m less than what he wanted then eventually offered him the 20m extra.
Players who get in their feels during contract negotiations and take it personally crack me up.
Hes not a bonafide superstar who has helped them win a chip. Very few guys get exactly what they want especially in their first extension.
The pistons have to look out for their future flexibility and would be dumb not to try and save as much as they can so they can continue to build a competitive roster.
Did they make personal attacks against Jalen that I missed?
I mean if he signs the 200 mil offer today, then his holdout was pretty successful. If he gets an even better offer in the next few days, it was really successful. Really don’t know how this will end yet.
If the report that his camp was shocked by the weight clause in the contract are true, i’d argue they are seeing that as a personal attack.
Didnt he want 200m? They are offering him that deal right now.
Why continue to hold out or sign a QO?
If he signs the QO I believe Hes going to leave 20-30m on the table with huge risk of having a down season and losing even more as a free agent.
Reports are making it sound like Theres a legitimate rift(though this could all just be negotiating tactics). If this affects his play it’s going to affect his pay.
I will say that Im not 100% up to date on the situation and this based off of what I have read over the last week on this sub.
I don’t know if sign and trade is possible but we may be trending that way or Hes going to do the most boneheaded move and sign the QO and gamble with 100’s of millions of dollars.
The 200M deal right now is essentially fully non-guaranteed. Every month he gets weighed and they have a mechanism to strip the guarantees.
I personally do not think it was ever reported he absolutely was gonna take 40M x 5 years. I think what was reported was that duren was looking for something “in the 40s” and people took that adn ran with “200M gets it done.”
There is a legitimate rift, it remains to be seen if it’s serious enough that he woudl actually sign the QO otu of essentially spite. So far he’s gotten the pistons to up from 35M to 40M AAV, it could just as well be tactics.
If he gets an even better offer in the next few days
The Kings have already reportedly offered the 4⁄189 max for next year, which puts the combined at 5⁄199, less than Detroit’s 5⁄200. The max another team can offer (if they had cap space) today is 4⁄177 ($44M AAV), but I’m pretty sure just about no one has the cap space to do that right now. So it has to be the latter, because financially this makes literally zero sense.
No guarantee that offer is there next year and if he plays poorly this year (or Detroit purposely limits him) chances of getting that type of pay only drops.
Yeah exactly. It’s a best case scenario and it’s still worse than the current offer.
If we’re honest about this whatever current offer the Pistons have on the table for him will still be there up until the final buzzer. It seems to me all he is doing is seeing how far they’re willing to budge up until then. I’m not going to believe he seriously is considering signing the QO until we get that notification.
This really is just an awful situation for Detroit, they lose him that sucks, they overpay him that really sucks.
If the Kings told him they’d max him next year, how is that not tampering or whatever we’re calling it now?
Because he’s a free agent that’s unsigned
Are they not telling him “hey… if you just happen to be a free agent again next year, we’ll give you the max?”
yeah but he’s a free agent so they can do that. there’s no tampering or circumvention to be had here
“We would love to work something out next offseason when we have the cap room”
Just logically speaking restricted FA must communicate with other teams in order to sign a contract. After signing a contract, the incumbent team has a certain number of days to match.
If it were tampering for the RFA to communicate and negotiate with other teams, then it would be impossible to sign a contract and allow the incumbent team to match.
So obviously, RFAs may talk to any other teams and communicate whatever they want.
Yep, and that’s totally cool. if they started doing that last year while he was under contract, very uncool. But right now, completely cool.
I think RFAs have different rules about communication with teams.
Gotta imagine they’d sign and trade him before he takes the QO
S&T at that kind of money is difficult to do due to matching salary rules and Duren only counting as part of his salary for Det.
There really isn’t much time left for that, they should have considered a S&T months ago if that was what they wanted.
I mean, the raising of the offer quite significantly when competing with no one, even in the form of offer sheets that need to match of which there are none, was already an admission of this. Was likely seriously threatening it and DET wanted to retain some return in a trade. Apparently hasn’t even been any sign and trade offers to be a matter of doing now.
Do it!
Would be one of biggest bag fumbles for sure
He should Google Le’veon Bell.
Just like Kuminga, it bothers me to do this positioning. Sign that QO or Sign the deal. Either way, that man isnt going to be in Detroit past whatever trade deadline
Cool fuck this guy
A player wants what he’d get on the open market and you dorks are taking out your pitchforks. Why is it fuck him? Say you don’t want Detroit to pay what he wants, fine. But yall get too emotional about it.
Ok
It’s the internet, first time here?
Take a one year deal and bet on yourself if you believe in you that much.
Is Durin this season’s Kuminga?
Cade come home
Well if he plays well for a new contract but sits out the playoffs so he doesn’t get hurt it’s a win win
I think they’ve also got genuine concerns the dude will just coast as soon as he gets paid. Sad that the season is basically already a write off, I don’t know how you can overcome something like this as a team.
Blood thinks he’s LeBron James. You are about as far from LeBron James as I am from you, Jalen Duren. You are not that guy.
We’re seeing another Dennis Schröder situation in action
Schroeder at least had insane leverage - lakers were forced to choose between grossly overpaying him and slamming LeBron’s contention window closed. Schroeder just didn’t think they’d actually throw in the towel on the LeBron era
The Pistons deserve a lot of blame for this going sideways. For some reason Reddit thinks this is on Duren meanwhile every month the offers have gone up and up…but the absurd weight clause in the latest offer is very telling. Detroit doesn’t know wtf they’re doing.
I think he should take the money, and he probably will…but if not, Detroit will very quickly regret not paying him \(5m more per year. The notion that it's some 'franchise killer' to pay him \)45m instead of $40m is absurd. There’s going to be a lockout and new CBA just 1 year into his deal, and all of the alternatives at center are going to be much older, probably not as good, and might cost even more. They gonna trade for AD or Sabonis? Who is going to trade them a young starting center? Teams are not letting young centers hit the open market with Wemby in his prime.
Very poor franchise management imo.
Even if you sign him to $40m+ it’s matching salary for when you want to go get the big fish in the trade market.
Bingo. If it was $70m, okay, that’s hefty. But we’re talking Michael Porter Jr money.
I think they deserve “some” but nto quite as much as you might. I actually think the thing they deserve blame for is choosing to commit to a cade/ausar/duren trio when we saw that flame out hardcore in the playoffs; the spacing is just too bad. And that contributed to duren’s terrible performance.
However, I also dont’ see how they can plan for the center who was killing it all season to suddenly lay such a giant goose egg that there becomes legitimate concerns about how legit he really is and adjust their negotiations accordingly. If he performs in the playoffs, this isn’t an issue and he gets 40M+ a year easy. And some of that is on their team structure, but some of that is also on him, he is the one playing. I chalk it up honestly to more misfortune than anything outright foolish the pistons have done this entire time. Even my issue with the trio as stated above, I at least understand if they wanted to take the stance of “we think these guys are more valuable to us than they are to the league so we aren’t going to get fair return back.”
I’m also curious as an aside why you think there will be a lockout, the NBA traditionally has much better relations than leagues like the MLB and NHL which are almost lockouts every time.

He hasn’t signed? Why would he show up for media day as of now he’s not their player
The team has started a smear campaign through their beat reporters that included making up a Labor Day party held by the owner on a day designed to be off work (let alone amid the offseason) as a means to shame the non employee for not showing when the employees didnt even show.
They’re just idiots.
That campaign also included suggesting that Cade didnt start training for the season until early September as had to ignore what happened before as was in Miami likely partying with Duren who is attached to hip of and was also there (both came out of it warranting that reported weight clause too). This as was really pushing Duren haven not been in touch with teammates.
Just let him take the qualifying offer and get kuminga’d already, rip the band aid. If anything they should try to get Kat for Duran
Classic wishful thinking take from Kings insider James Ham.
I’m pretty sure that he will sign something before the QO expires October 1st.
Respected reporter vs random guy. Tale as old as time.
Does anyone respect the Kings, or ESPN radio?
Does anyone respect anything. You’re truly philosophically ahead of our time
